6 MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDING OFFICER I m taking this opportunity to extend a tremendous congratulations to all our cadets for completing the training program this year! Everyone in the 330 family is incredibly proud of all of this year s achievements! The dedication, passion, and enthusiasm of these incredible young adults has made it an absolute honour to serve as their Commanding Officer. The cadet program, at times, may be challenging for our youth to manage between their competing priorities at school and within the community. However, the months of hard work, certainly makes it well worth celebrating those accomplishments during this parade. To our parents, supporters, and larger 330 family, THANK YOU! Thank you for investing your time, money, resources and support towards these future leaders of our country! The success our cadets and squadron have achieved over the past 9 months is largely due to your support. Without you, our cadets would not have been able to achieve as much as they did this training year, and for that, we are extremely grateful. I encourage you to continue your support, in whichever way possible, as we head in to a change of command and our 75th anniversary; two major events for our squadron. Whether you re able to contribute time or financial support, the reward you ll receive seeing our young leaders graduate on parade is always worth it. Your support, no matter how small it is, provides our youth with unique, engaging, and dynamic opportunities which will only serve to further develop them into outstanding citizens for our country. Donating, helping recruit, volunteering for an event, sitting on a committee, sharing our social media and website content, these are all rewarding yet critical ways of continuing support. To the staff and sponsoring committee - thank you for ensuring the success of our squadron this training year. The year was action-packed, rapid, and demanding, but your unwavering support you ve provided is truly appreciated. The accomplishments our unit has achieved over the year is due to your individual contributions to the team, and we wouldn t have excelled if it wasn t for you. I can never truly express my gratitude for your dedication and commitment to serving the youth of our country in such a remarkable way. I hope our entire 330 family has a safe and enjoyable summer away from the cadet program, and comes back re-energized for a new training year. I look forward to seeing you all at our Change of Command Ceremony on Wed 7 June Thank you. Captain Jonathan John Commanding Officer

8 REVIEWING OFFICER BIOGRAPHY Lieutenant-Colonel Theo Heuthorst joined the Canadian Forces in 1984 and graduated from Royal Roads Military College in 1988, with a Bachelor of Arts in Military and Strategic Studies. He was awarded his Air Navigator Wings in 1989 and was subsequently posted to HS423 in Shearwater, Nova Scotia as a Sea King Tactical Coordinator (TACCO). While at HS423, LCol Heuthorst was attached to Her Majesty s Canadian Ships Athabaskan, Skeena, Protecteur (twice), and Margaree. His deployments included Op Friction with Protecteur in 1990/91 and a NATO consort in 1992, also with Protecteur. He concluded his posting to the squadron as the TACCO Standards Officer. In 1993, LCol Heuthorst was posted to HT406, also in Shearwater, to instruct on the Sea King. During that tour he served as a TACCO Instructor, Tactical Trainer Officer, and TACCO Standards. In 1996, LCol Heuthorst continued his instructional duties when posted to the Canadian Forces Air Navigation School in Winnipeg. During that period, he was deeply involved with the transformation of Air Navigator training from historical long-range navigation to a new emphasis on the tactical employment of CF aircraft. In 2001, LCol Heuthorst was promoted to major and posted to the Air Operations Centre at 1 Canadian Air Division HQ, as A3 Contingency Plans. While there, he served as the lead planner for several deployed operations, including all Air Force participation in post-9/11 operations, and was considered the RCAF expert on the Operational Planning Process. In 2004, LCol Heuthorst returned to the Maritime Helicopter community with a posting to 443 Squadron in Victoria, BC. He served as the detachment commander for HMCS Winnipeg s deployment to Op Altair in the South West Asia theatre of operations. Selected to attend the Joint Command and Staff Programme at Canadian Forces College in 2006, he graduated in 2007 and was posted to the Strategic Joint Staff as Deputy Director of the National Defence Command Centre and then its Commander within the Directorate of Current Operations. In 2009, LCol Heuthorst assumed command of two units, the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Studies, responsible for professional development of RCAF officers, and 1 Canadian Forces Flying Training School, training Air Combat Systems Officers and Airborne Electronic Systems Operators, where he regained his flying instructor category. In 2011, LCol Heuthorst was posted to Headquarters, NATO Supreme Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, Virginia, as the Canadian National Liaison Representative, serving as the CDS s liaison on matters relating to NATO strategic planning, capability development, and training. He was also the Commanding Officer for all Canadian Forces personnel serving in NATO ACT. In 2014, LCol Heuthorst returned to Canada as Chief of Staff and Director of Operations for the Air Component Coordination Element in Halifax, Nova Scotia, providing air support to Joint Task Force Atlantic, the Maritime Component Commander, and the Army s 5 Div. He also deployed to the Combined Maritime Forces HQ in Bahrain, as the Chief Air Coordination Element. In addition to his BA, LCol Heuthorst has a Master of Defence Studies from Royal Military College of Canada, is a graduate of Canadian Forces Staff School, the Staff Air Navigator s Course, the Joint Command and Staff Programme, and all levels of Maritime Warfare Centre coursing, including the Command and Staff Course. He has over 1,500 flying hours on the CH-124 Sea King and holds a Crew Commander category. He also has over 1,000 hours on the CT-142 Dash-8 and holds an A-1 Category as a Navigator Instructor. In his spare time, LCol Heuthorst enjoys golfing, cycling, and short-course triathlon.

11 MESSAGE FROM THE SQUADRON SPONSORING COMMITTEE Congratulations to the entire Squadron for an extremely successful training year. The growth of the squadron has been significant; we have over 100 cadets participating in the program under the guidance of enthusiastic and dedicated staff and volunteers. We have so many accomplishments to celebrate ranging from our band, drill and sports teams receiving high standing in inter-squadron competitions to breaking records in fundraising, to four 330 cadets being selected for places on highly competitive national summer training courses or the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE). The program could not be run smoothly without the on-going support we received. I extend my gratitude to SSC members, and all of our supporters within the greater community of East York and Toronto. On behalf of the 330 Family I thank all the members of the Squadron Sponsoring Committee: Jamie Maracle, Susan Cho, Monique Petrie, Michelle Jimenez and Angela Stewart for their time and support. A special thanks to Ms. Petrie who led the Squadron s Effective Speaking program and organized Mess Dinner; to Mrs. Cho, the Chair for the two previous training years, who managed the Kit Shop, canteen and coordinated most extra-curricular activities. Like me, both members will be stepping down at the end of the training year to attend to growing demands of family and career. Best wishes to departing staff, SSC members, and Captain John as they move on to new challenges; and best of luck to Major Laverriere and next year s SSC and staff members who will continue to deliver the outstanding program at 330 Squadron.
