The main motto behind establishing the Student Branch at MVSR Engineering College is to provide a platform to the students where they can interact with their peer group from around the section and also with the professional members from around the globe. Several activities that would help the students in fostering their core knowledge and at the same time nurture their leadership and managerial skills are being planned as part of the academic year. 3 The function commenced with the welcome note by the Student Branch Chairman, S. Sathwik followed by the Lighting up of the Lamp by the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour. 5 Mr. V. Ashwini Kumar, Branch Advisor and the Head of Information Technology Department at MVSR Engineering College then addressed the gathering and congratulated the student members for their successful attempt to establish an IEEE Student Branch at the college and wished them the best for the further events. 6 The IEEE MVSR Student Branch website was officially launched by Sri M.B.S. Purushottam, Chairman, Matrusri Education Society. The student branch website is accessible by the students and faculty at IEEE MVSR Student Branch Website Launch Dr. P.A. Sastry, Principal, MVSR Engineering College then appreciated the efforts taken by the Excom members in order to establish the IEEE student branch at MVSR Engineering College and shared his best wishes with all the students for their new endeavour. 7 The Chief Guest of the function, Prof. P. Premchand, Dean Engineering, Osmania University then addressed the gathering where he shared several useful tips for organizing a student branch effectively. He even spoke about the importance of IEEE in acquiring the professionalism required in any Engineering student these days. He expressed his happiness and appreciated the student members for taking the lead and initiating the Student Branch at this college. Chief Guest, Prof. P. Sameen Fatima, Head Dept. of CSE, Osmania University then shared with us the importance of professional societies in a student s life. She suggested the students to have an open mind for everything they do and enlightened the students regarding the various opportunities that one might have after becoming a member of IEEE. Dr. Dhananjay Jahagirdhar, who works as a scientist at Research Centre Imarat, DRDO and is also the Chairman for the MTT Society, graced the occasion by his presence. He enlightened the students about how IEEE is helping the student community in reaching a career goal. He even spoke about the advancement in technology and how IEEE can help a person stay abreast with the latest innovations from around the world. The importance of various societies in IEEE was not known to many until Dr. Dhananjay Jahagirdhar shared it with us. IEEE MVSR Student Branch Page 7

8 Dr. Atul Negi, Chairman IEEE Hyderabad Section then explained to the students as well as the faculty members how IEEE can be beneficial to them. He briefly summarized to us what IEEE exactly is with the help of a small presentation. He then shared with the audience the success stories of Sabeer Bhatia ( Revolution Hotmail) and Vinod Khosla (Co-Founder SUN). The Mementos were given to the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour as a token of gratitude for sharing their valuable time with us and helping us understand the role of IEEE Student Branch in a student s life and also for their valuable suggestions on how to proceed with various events in the near future.
