1 Post title: Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist Accountable to: irector of ABI and Neurological Services JOB SUMMARY To provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology service to the patients at Warwick Lodge and Croxton Step own Service at Melton Mowbray; providing specialist neuropsychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers. To complete the set reported outcome measures with the MT to evidence the effectiveness of rehabilitation and the progress of the patients. This will include contributing to patients CPA reports, best interest and capacity assessments. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the anshell ABI & Neurological Services policies and procedures. To utilise your research skills for audit, policy and service development, and to research within the speciality

2 Post title: Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist UTIS AN RSPONSIBILITIS Clinical: 1. To provide specialist neuro-psychological assessments to clients referred to the service and complete the interpretation of the results, compile relevant reporting papers or data entry. Perform direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client s care. 2. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client s mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client s problems. This involves employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings, including hospitals, local statutory bodies and residential units. 3. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses. 4. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual. 5. To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation of other professionals contributing directly to clients formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan. To communicate, in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of patients in our care and to monitor progress during the course of multi-disciplinary care. 6. To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings on the Melton Mowbray site and add-on services. 7. To identify, assess and manage clinical and non-clinical risks/hazards in your area through the completion of the relevant risk assessments and the implementation of risk treatment plans for inclusion in the Services risk registers

To receive regular clinical professional supervision from a senior clinician and where appropriate, other senior professional colleagues. 2. To continue to gain additional highly specialist experience and skills relevant to clinical psychology and/or the service. 3. To keep up to date with the legislation on the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and have an awareness of other relevant NHS legislation and guidelines that affect working practices and care for this patient group. 4. To provide advice, consultation and training to staff working with the client group across a range of agencies and settings, where appropriate. Management, recruitment, policy and service development 1. To contribute to the evaluation and monitoring of the team s operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research and audit. 2. To manage the workloads of assistant and graduate trainee clinical psychologists, within the framework of the service s policies and procedures. Research and service evaluation 1. To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and with other team members. 2. To undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other staff undertaking research. Professional 1. To complete information requirements and statistical returns of work and activities undertaken, as required: to maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional selfgovernance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures. 2. To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CP training and development programme, in consultation with the postholder s professional lead and service manager(s), as negotiated via Personal Review Scheme (PRS) 3. To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in neuropsychology across the service, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist - practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments

To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health. 5. To participate in professional Special Interest Groups, Post Qualification Training, etc. as appropriate and agreed by the ABI & Neurological Services irector. 6. To follow the Trust and epartmental policies, procedures and guidelines. 7. To carry out other such duties as the Service Manager or ABI Services irector may reasonably request. 8. To adhere to the British Psychological Society and ivision of Clinical Psychology Code of Conduct and Professional Guidelines. 9. To be aware of, and adhere to relevant anshell policies, goals and targets and appropriate Government legislation. HALTH AN SAFTY AT WORK ACT The post holder must be aware of the responsibilities placed upon them under the Heath and Safety Act 1974 to ensure that agreed procedures are carried out and that a safe working environment is maintained for patients, visitors and employees. This training meets all national standards and guidelines; the training is designed to teach e-escalation skills as a first intervention tool and physical techniques training to assist you in maintaining a safe environment if a situation arises. 7 Professional Qualifications octoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies as accredited by the BPS. Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology Technical requirements (xperience, Knowledge Understanding & Application) xperience of specialist neuropsychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including inpatient and residential care home settings. xperience of working with a wide variety of clients presenting with problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse. xperience of working with families therapeutically. xperience of teaching, training and/or supervision. xperience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts. Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups. Knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology. Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc.). High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
