1 Job Title: dult Psychotherapist Specialist Personality Disorder (Mentalization Based Treatment) Band: 7 Hours: Department: Location: Reports to: Responsible for: 37.5 hours per week Croydon Personality Disorder Service Touchstone Centre, Bethlem Royal Hospital Clinical Service Leader Community Practitioners and Students on placement Job Purpose: To provide specialist Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) to individuals and groups of people with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder within a tier 3 specialist Personality Disorder Service day treatment centre, based at Bethlem Royal Hospital in Beckenham Kent and within the community setting in Croydon. To develop expertise in the facilitation of appraisal based coping skills development groups known as the Sun Project; a self-referral /open-access, community based, group for adults with complex and longstanding mental health difficulties living within the locality. 2 Key Responsibilities: Clinical To be responsible for the provision of Specialist Psychotherapy Services to people with a primary diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder both in group and individual psychotherapy using a Mentalization Based Treatment model. To demonstrate, through case presentation and daily clinical meetings, the explicit implementation of a Mentalization Based Treatment model to all clinical work and reflective practice groups. To be able to demonstrate the quality of your MBT work through completion of the documentation of the care pathway interventions at all stages of a patients journey through the service. In conjunction with senior colleagues facilitate regular clinical reviews of the implementation of the treatment plan, involving the client, other professionals involved and their family/ any other relevant person. To provide expert facilitation of the Sun Project group (open access group for people with or without a formal diagnosis of personality disorder) a crisis support group using the principles of coping process theory. To demonstrate the consistent implementation of the model through supervision, team review and teaching of others. These groups are at present provided 5 times a week including one group on a Saturday morning which the successful applicant will be rostered to facilitate as needed (for which enhanced payment and time off in lieu is given). To provide leadership to the junior staff, role modelling the Trust s 5 commitments at all times and ensuring that your actions help junior colleagues work to the best of their ability. Supervising community practitioners within the service the assessment and planning of care when there are complex adult or child safeguarding issues and completing risk assessment and care planning where there is risk to others or to self, for instance where there may be severe and repeated self-injurious behaviour. To work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary psychotherapy team actively supporting the maintenance of the therapeutic milieu at the Touchstone Centre, its therapeutic boundaries and the safety of all within the service. This will include from time to time being the duty contact person for patients requiring additional or crisis support on a day to day basis (or supervising others in this role). To undertake, document and share with relevant professionals and carers a risk assessment and risk management plans for your individual clients.

3 To provide advice to professional colleagues in the community or on the acute inpatient wards regarding evidenced based care for this client group, establishing and maintaining professional collaborative communication that is experienced by others as helpful, supportive and clear. Teaching/Supervision To provide direct supervision for allocated staff as per the Trust policies and procedures, this will include co-developing annual appraisals for your supervisees alongside your line manager, and planning and implementing an induction programme for new staff. To meet the learning needs of new staff, visitors and students coming to the service by either leading or actively participating in delivering training on working therapeutically with people with personality disorder and in particular attending the weekly team training on the implementation of the appraisal based coping skills group. To actively participate in clinical and managerial supervision and annual appraisal and personal development planning. Quality Improvement To actively engage in the process of improving upon the high quality of service offered, by participating in audits, sharing research ideas, and being an active participant of team events and meetings to include leading on projects as agreed with your line manager. To keep up to date with the scientific developments in the care and treatment of people with personality disorder in particular in the field of MBT. To use the Touchstone care pathway audit tool to guide both your work and that of your supervisees in order to demonstrate implementation of a gold standard MBT service. To carry out other duties as the Clinical Service Leader may reasonably request. 4 Hold a valid Professional Registration either as a Registered Mental Nurse, Mental Health Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Psychologist Qualification or experience of facilitating groups with people with a range of psychiatric illnesses. Specialist post graduate training in psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapeutic modality and valid registration with UKCP/BCP/ as a Psychoanalytic/ Psychodynamic/ Integrative/ rts Psychotherapist or HCPC registered as a practitioner psychologist. personal therapy experience of sufficient intensity, depth and duration to be able to work psychotherapeutically with difficult and demanding cases Significant experience in treating (through application of psychotherapy) patients, individual and group settings, with complex mental health problems, specifically Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder. Significant experience of supervising the work of practitioners in delivery of therapeutic interventions in a mental health setting treating people with complex needs Basic Training in MBT from a trainer accredited by the nna Freud Centre. Some experience and relevant training in the supervision of the clinical work of junior practitioners Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrable understanding of Mentalization Based Treatment Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses/conditions and their recommended treatments. Comprehensive knowledge of personality disorder and current high quality research in this field. The ability to work on a Saturday to cofacilitate Sun Project group (3 hours) on a rota basis as needed. Capacity to tolerate frequent exposure to unpredictable working conditions including demanding, verbally aggressive service users and deal with physical aggression and self-harm/other risky behaviours appropriately.
