1 OFFICIAL CABINET MEETING MINUTES The first Cabinet meeting of MD-20Y2 Lions Clubs was called to order by District Governor Linda Walsh on September 8, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Winners Circle Restaurant, Fonda, NY. Pledge PDG Orville Curtiss Lions Prayer 2 nd VDG Marianne Lynch District Governor s Comments In her opening remarks, DG Linda Walsh apologized for cancellation of the pre cabinet meeting. She noted that last minute indications of Lions attending were insufficient notice and that she needed earlier notification to plan food supplies for the meeting, which was to be held in a church hall. Lion Mary Claire Noaks is recovering from surgery, and a get-well card was distributed for attendees to sign. Secretary s Report Lion Cabinet Secretary Fred read the minutes from the April 30, 2012 cabinet meeting in Cohoes. DG Linda noted a correction to the minutes that the IDE is Steve Tremaroli the speaker, not Bob Libin. The minutes were approved on a motion by Tom Snowdon (Mary Barker). Treasurer s Report A motion by PDG Joe Jarvis (PDG Dave Ramsey) to transfer $500 from the administrative fund to the VDG fund was approved. DG Linda noted that youth activity funds were included in the administrative fund. A suggestion was made that included in the policy manual should be an automatic transfer of $500 from the administrative fund to the VDG fund should be made at the start of each new year. PDG Dick Nason pointed out that it should be clear at each cabinet meeting that only qualified voters should participate in voting at the meeting. Committee Reports District Youth DG Linda is having a zone meeting style meeting with the five LEO clubs at the Galway Lions facility on October 20. All Lions interested are in invited to attend, but please give DG Linda an advance notice of (your) planned attendance. DG Linda hopes to have state director Noni Krom as guest speaker. Global Leadership Lion Bill Suchy reported that it is important for clubs to identify new members as potential leaders and to encourage them to take leadership roles in order to keep clubs healthy with new ideas. He urged those present to take advantage of the Internet leader training facilities International provides. He also urged clubs to encourage their members to attend state conventions in order to avail themselves of the leadership workshops held. DG Linda gave Lions Bill Suchy and Tom Kevlin copies of the Global Leadership rules and regulations. Global Membership Lion Tom Kevlin reported there is a process for assessment of clubs and their communities in order for clubs effectiveness in their communities through learning what works with other clubs and what could be relevant. Grants Ballston Spa president Harry Petersen reported that his club s first major project in 1949 was to build a community swimming pool which next year in order to conform with the Americans Disability Act must have a fixed lift installed by July 1 st, The lift will cost $5,500 with certified installation an additional $3,400. Consequently, Ballston Spa wishes to apply for a NYS and Bermuda Foundation grant. They are asking for $1,900. PDG Joan Scott

2 OFFICIAL MINUTES OF DISTRICT 20-Y2 CABINET MEETING SEPTEMBER 8, 2012 PAGE 2 noted that the District can only approve one grant application at a time, and she also has a grant request from the Lions Hearing Conservation Society with eight loan-out centers throughout the district. The Society needs to re-equip the eight centers at a cost of $6, Their grant request is for $3,250. It was noted that the Hearing Society should report their financials to the District clubs in a more widely published manner. Scotia/Glenville president Eric Buskirk presented a proposed grant request from his club for a grant to help pay for a $25,000 structure for Collins Park in Scotia. On a motion by PDG Joan Scott (PDG Orville Curtiss) the District s submission of the Ballston Spa Lions grant application at the November NYS and Bermuda Lions Foundation was approved; on a motion by PDG Joe Jarvis (Ray Martin) the District s submission of the Hearing Society s grant request was approved. The Scotia/Glenville club s proposal needs a little refining and will be voted on at the Fall Conference in November for submission at the April Foundation meeting. On a motion by cabinet secretary Fred (DG Linda) those present approved giving the Scotia/Glenville club s grant proposal priority at the fall conference. USA/Canada Forum PDG Joan Scott reported that she and DG Linda are attending this year s forum in Tampa, FL. Peace Poster Contest PDG Joan Scott reported for the absent Lion Mary Claire Noaks. Clubs submitting posters need to bring them to the fall conference at which time a committee vote will decide the district winner. Diabetes Action and Awareness PDG Dick Ralston reported that the International pamphlet should be copied and distributed to people at large. One copy of the flier was given to each attendee. A copy of PDG Dick s full report is attached to these minutes. Vacation Camp for the Blind Lion Mike O Brien reported that one boiler has been replaced and a second one needs to be replaced. NYS and Bermuda Lions Foundation PDG Joan Scott presented PDG Dave Ramsey with a certificate of appreciation by the trustees in recognition of his years of service to the Foundation. Noted by PDG Joan Scott was that the statewide raffle is now illegal. Only local raffles are legal. A decision on what kind of fundraiser will be held this year will probably come at the NYS and Bermuda Foundation meeting in November. Lions Foundation PDG Dick Nason reported that the Foundation plans to do more club visitations. He noted that at present there is more need than income from donations can support. The next meeting is October 13 th at the Eye Institute building at 10:00. 2 nd VDG Marianne Lynch (bronze) and Lion Jerry Gordon were awarded Knights of the Blind at the past District Governor s Testimonial. PDG Joan reported that sale of the chocolate bunnies brought about $12,000 in for the Foundation and the Foundation has an account of about $47,000. LCIF PDG Dick Nason and Lion Bill Suchy noted that reading the International magazine will help clubs see what kind of projects LCIF will grant aid. District Lions Roar Newsletter DG Linda urged clubs to send items to Karen Rager each month. Youth Band DG Linda advised raffle tickets, if received, to be held until a decision on arrangements for the convention are made. Lions Camp Badger PDG Joe Jarvis reported that the camp needs more students. Zone Chairs DG Linda distributed International manuals for zone chairpersons. Region O, Zone B Lion Tom Snowdon reported that Richmondville/Cobleskill has disbanded. The Town of Wright/Schoharie Valley Lions has 19 members. The board of directors met on Aug. 23 and established a budget and plan for the new club year which were presented at the first club meeting on Sept. 4. The club will continue supporting the rebuilding efforts following IRENE and LEE. Although much of Middleburgh has recovered, Schoharie is

Schoharie Recovery, Inc. is a non-profit coordinating repairs website: SALT (Schoharie Area Long Term is an overall coordinating organization overseeing countywide efforts. During the past year W-SV distributed $6,400 in LCIF aid and $5,460 in unrestricted aid. Additional contributions of non-monetary aid were also realized (store vouchers, etc.). Currently, a storage trailer, lent by Buanno Transportation through PDG Bob Montenaro is still being used to store building supplies. A tentative schedule of planned zone meeting will be issued. Region N, Zone A PDG Joan Scott reported that the first meeting will be hosted by the Granville club on September 18, Closing Comments DG Linda noted that some clubs dues are in arrears, and they should address the problem directly. District O PDG Wilfred Roehe s stepdaughter was killed in a car crash. District O is asking each of the multiple districts for a $50 donation for his grandchildren s education fund. On a motion by Lion Tom Snowdon (PDG Orville Curtiss) our district s $50 donation was approved. Old Business PDG Dave Ramsey gave a report on the disbanding of the Richmnondville/Cobleskill club. PDG Orville Curtiss mentioned that some clubs haven t paid their district dues. PDG Joan suggested zone chairs play into collecting delinquent club dues. New Business DG Linda s projects will be aid to domestic violence victims and CABVI and NABA. She also mentioned that she would be happy to induct new members at her visitation. She also suggested a possible zone project of supplying restaurants with placemats that have the area membership chairpersons names and contact information. On October 23 rd Scotia/Glenville will have an anniversary celebration at the Turf Tavern. There will be a leadership institute in October, and there is still room. UN Day bus Shenendahowa LEO s took the train, and it was less expensive. Albany Devils want to hold a Lions Day. Lion Bill Suchy thinks the PR of having such a day would be valuable even if we don t make money from it. DG Linda feels that winner of 50/50 raffle at club meetings should not be pressured to return to winnings to club. Speakers are available to speak to clubs about Knights of the Blind. The fall conference will be in November at the Century House in Latham. Meeting will be at 11:00 in the morning with luncheon. PDG Dick Ralston mentioned that announcement with details of cabinet meetings at least two months in advance in district newsletter. Adjournment 12:00 by consensus. Guest Speaker Lion Sue Shipe of the Saratoga club spoke on Unity Day. Packets with suggested club projects were handed out. Past District Governor s Meeting was held after lunch.
