2 RESOLUTION NO. 2012/ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE CLEANUP SITE LOCATED AT THE CHICKEE HUT JUST NORTH OF SE 1 ST STREET FOR THE 2012 OCEAN CONSERVANCY INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP FROM 8:00AM UNTIL 1:00PM ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2012 AND A WAIVER OF PARKING FEES FOR SPACES AT THE MAIN BEACH PARKING LOT TO PROVIDE FREE PARKING FOR EVENT PARTICIPANTS WHEREAS, the 2012 Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 15, 2012; and WHEREAS, the Applicant, the Broward County Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department, has requested that the City of Deerfield Beach provide free parking spaces for event participants during the event at the Main Beach Parking lot with a fiscal impact of approximately $1,556.25; and WHEREAS, last year approximately 375 volunteers helped to clean the beach in Deerfield Beach and collected 1,625 pounds of trash; and WHEREAS, based upon the national hourly wage for a volunteer in the State of Florida of $22.00 per hour, the City benefited in approximately $33,000 in-kind services and 1,500 man hours to the City s beaches; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The above referenced Whereas clauses are true and correct and made a part hereof. Section 2. The City does hereby approve the Cleanup site located at the Chickee hut just north of S.E. 1 st Street for the 2012 Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup from 8:00am until 1:00pm on September 15, 2012 and waives the parking fees at the Main Beach Parking Lot for event participants during the event. 4 Memorandum TO: FROM: FOR: Burgess Hanson, City Manager Walt Bratton, Director of Parks and Recreation July 10, 2012 Commission Meeting DATE: June 27, 2012 RE: Request for Fee Waiver-Ocean Conservancy Coastal Cleanup The Ocean Conservancy Coastal Cleanup special event sponsored by the Broward County Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM (this time period includes setup, take down and cleanup). It should be noted that the event has been held throughout Broward County for the past twelve (12) years. Currently, the applicant has complied with all guidelines relevant to the current special event application process, including compliance to insurance stipulations. As in past years, a cleanup site will be set up at the chickee hut located in front of the fire station on Ocean Way just north of Southeast 1 st Street. Approximately two hundred (200) volunteers will remove trash from the beach during this three hour event. The event applicant is requesting approval by the City Commission to allow event participants to park for free in the main beach parking lot during the event. The fiscal impact to the City will be as follows: - Parking spaces in the main beach parking lot: $1, (maximum dollar amount based on full usage of the parking lot by cleanup volunteers during this time period) Total subsidy: $1, Last year approximately 375 volunteers assisted to clean the beach and collected 1,625 pounds of trash as part of this community stewardship event. Based upon the national hourly wage for volunteerism in the state of Florida (i.e. being $22.00 per volunteer hour), the City benefitted approximately $33,000 of in-kind services and 1,500 volunteer hours to the City s beach.
