2 BACKGROUND/RELATED STRATEGIC GOAL: SW 36 th Street is located in Palm City in the Palm City Amended Subdivision between SW Mapp Road and SW St Lucie Shores Drive. In accordance with Section E. Land Development Regulations, continuity of street names is required for new streets. The renaming SW 36 th Street to SW Martin Highway, allows the continuity of the name of SW Martin Highway which is located on the west side of the SW Mapp Road intersection. Section and A. establishes the procedure for changing street names. The County Commission may change a street name at an advertised public hearing. In accordance with Section A. the Engineering Department has compiled a list of property owners adjacent to the road right of way to be renamed. The Legal Department has certified the address list and the Growth Management Department have sent letters notifying the affected property owners of the change. Staff is requesting that SW Martin Highway run from the intersection with SW Warfield Blvd on the western county line to the intersection of S. Kanner Hwy and SE Indian St. Only one property owner is affected by this change since there are no longer any homes located on SW 36 th Street and all the vacant property is owned by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Both the FDOT and the one affected property owner have been notified of this public hearing. Approval of the name change now will ensure that the post-mounted street name signs and illuminated street name signs on the traffic signal mast arms reflect the new name when the construction of the Indian Street Bridge corridor is complete. It is not the intent of this hearing to name the bridge. ISSUES: None. RECOMMENDED ACTION: RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends approval of renaming SW 36 th Street and naming the Indian Street Bridge Corridor to SW Martin Highway. 6 BEFORE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MARTIN COUNTY, FLORIDA RESOLUTION NUMBER A RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO THE RENAMING OF SW 36TH STREET TO SW MARTIN HWY WHEREAS, Ordinance Number 636, adopted November 11, 2003, amended in its entirety Division 17 of the Martin County Land Development Regulations; and WHEREAS, Section 4.772, of Division 17, sets out the procedure for changing a street name not in conflict with the addressing procedures of Division 17; and WHEREAS, a Board of County Commissioners initiaton to rename SW 36th Street to SW Martin Hwy has been determined, at a public hearing called for the purpose, to be consistent with the standards for renaming streets; and WHEREAS, renaming the street to SW Martin Hwy will be in keeping with the conitnuity of the remaining portion of SW Martin Hwy. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Board of County Commissioners hereby renames the public street called SW 36th Street from SW Mapp Road to SW St. Lucie Shores Drive and hereby names the Indian Street Bridge corridor from SW St. Lucie Shores Drive to S Kanner Highway, together to be known henceforth as SW Martin Highway.
