2 PARISH STAFF Parish Office: From Fr. Burns Dear Parishioners Several parishioners have asked me, What is the diocesan process to name a new pastor? All Baton Rouge diocesan clergy know that there is an established protocol for the naming of a new pastor and for clergy transfers. Keep in mind now, that I am using my own words to inform you of this process. If the diocese of Baton Rouge intends to transfer a priest, or if a priest wishes to transfer, or if a Parish is vacant for any reason, then by the end of February of each year the vacancy is published to all Baton Rouge Diocesan clergy. This allows them the time to discern their interest in the advertised vacancies. If they do become interested in any vacancy then they apply to the Baton Rouge Diocesan Clergy Personnel Board. The Personnel Board is delegated by the Bishop to conduct interviews and to make recommendations. Interviews are conducted during the month of March and if necessary the month of April. The Personnel Board consists of priest who are full-time pastors. When interviews are complete the board will make recommendations concerning the vacancies to the Bishop. The Bishop may accept any and all of their recommendations or he may choose to appoint someone else. As Bishop of the Diocese it is solely his authority to appoint pastors and associate pastors. Due to the complexity of parish and clergy calendars, the Baton Rouge Diocese makes its best effort to make clergy transfers effective on the first weekend of July, if possible. This is true for pastors and pastor associate positions. I am confident that this process will be complete within this approximate time period for the appointment of your next pastor and associate pastors. I would like to share with you one of my all-time favorite quotes from St John Chrysostom which was in this past Friday s Office Reading. Prayer and converse with God is a supreme good: it is a partnership and union with God. As the eyes of the body are enlightened when they see light, so our spirit, when it is intent on God, is illumined by his infinite light. I do not mean the prayer of outward observance but prayer from the heart, not confined to fixed times or periods, but continuous throughout the day and night. Cont d on Page 3 Fr. 3 STATIONS OF THE CROSS Each Friday of Lent: 8:30 a.m. (immediately after the 8:00 a.m. mass) & at 5:30 p.m. THE PRIVATE RITE OF THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Every Saturday, from 3:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Also on Wednesdays: March 18 & 25 & April 1, From 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Cont d from Page 2 Our spirit should be quick to reach out toward God not only when it is engaged in meditation; at other times also, when it is carrying out its duties, caring for the needy, performing works of charity, giving generously in the service of others, our spirit should long for God, and call him to mind, so that these works may be seasoned with the salt of God s love, and so make a palatable offering to the Lord of the universe. Throughout the whole of our lives we may enjoy the benefit that comes from prayer if we devote a great deal of time to it. Prayer is the light of the spirit, true knowledge of God, mediating between God and man. The spirit, raised up to heaven by prayer, clings to God with the utmost tenderness; like a child crying tearfully for its mother, it craves the milk that God provides. It seeks the satisfaction of its own desires, and receives gifts outweighing the whole world of nature. Yours in Christ, Please Join us for the upcoming Social of ST. The Commission met with McDougall Womack to discuss increasing involvement of junior high Parish School of Religion families that do not have children attending St. Aloysius School. One suggestion was to have a lunch or breakfast specifically for these families to make them feel more a part of the St. Aloysius family. Continuing improvements are being made to the Pew Cards and efforts to increase enrollment in Sunday School are needed. There are 6 members of the Education Commission that will be rotating off in May, so other parishioners will be invited to join specifically, PSR participant family members who have been active in the community and have expressed an interest in becoming more involved will be considered. Also suggested was the development of a special prayer for St. Aloysius Parish that could be prayed by the congregation at each mass. Spiritual Growth Commission Linking reports were reviewed 4 people will celebrate full communion through the RCIA program. There is a request through Adult Formation for more informal gatherings to discuss basics of the Catholic faith. Work continues on the Strategic Plan.
