Help us to be His hands, His eyes and ears, and His heart to them. Inspire us always to do for others what we would want them to do for us. VIRTUE FOR MARCH COMPASSION Compassion is following the example of Jesus the healer, who acted with deep care and concern for the people who were hurt or troubled. When we are compassionate we reach out in love to assist those who need our help. As God s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. (1 Colossians 3.12) Guide us to learn about the needs of our world. May Jesus Spirit shine through us in our service to the poor and needy. 2 BGCDSB Chess Tournament On Thursday, February 19th, Notre Dame Catholic School students participated in our board Chess tournament held at Mother Teresa in Walkerton. Many students from various schools within our school board had lots of fun and enjoyed themselves. You were able to notice the competitive nature of these students as they all wanted to win as well as the good sportsmanship and the friendly nature of them all. Notre Dame students Parshast Sumbria, Bradley McConkey and Jeremy Ready took home silver medals in the junior division and Stephen Thaiyil, Brock Lienhart and William Hannusch finished 4th in the intermediate division. Other members of our Chess team consisted of Mikaela Morris, Anthony Rovers and Collin Struthers. Thank you to Mr. Vezeau and Mrs. Ryan for their coaching skills and dedication to our students. 3 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Basketball Notre Dame Catholic School students participated in the District Free Throw competition held at St. Joseph s School in Port Elgin on Saturday, February 21st. Congratulations to Riley Rickard, Victoria Di Tursi and Matthew Molinski for each winning their division. Riley, Victoria and Matthew will now participate in the Regional Knights of Columbus Free Throw. On February 28th, Regionals were held in Waterloo and Matthew Molinski finished 2nd overall in his division and received a medal. Notre Dame Catholic School is extremely proud of all of our students for their excellent efforts. Congratulations! Special thanks to the Knights for hosting this great opportunity. 4 March Break 2015 Children s the Library Join in the fun at the Library during March Break, just for kids in grades 1-6. Register for these events in the Youth Services department or by calling ext. 4. Space is limited. Frozen Party Monday, March 16, 2:00-3:00 pm Kick off the March Break with some Frozen inspired games and crafts. Minute to Win It Tuesday, March 17, 2:00-3:00 pm Compete in a series of wacky challenges. Will your team be able to win it? Puppet Pandemonium Wednesday, March 18, 2:00-3:00 pm Create your own puppets and work with your group to perform a puppet play. Electronic Cards Thursday, March 19, 2:00-3:00 pm Let s get techy. Participants will use conductive paint, LEDs and batteries to create a card that lights up! Wonderful Weaving Friday, March 20, 2:00-3:00 pm Work with wool to create your very own woven project. March Break programs at the Library are free, however donations are greatly appreciated and will help to support the Library s youth programming. Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library 824 1st Avenue West Owen Sound ext 4 MUSKOKA WOODS LEADERSHIP CAMP Our grade 7 & 8 trip to Muskoka Woods Leadership Camp is fast approaching. This excursion is planned for Monday, April 20th to Wednesday, April 22nd. This camp will provide our students with an excellent opportunity to work in collaboration with other students from our board, in various events and activities that will challenge their problem solving skills, perseverance and endurance. Just a reminder that final payment is due Wednesday, March 11th. Kindly send in with your child. A final package will be sent home with students after March break. This package consists of school permission form, Muskoka Woods waiver form, technology free form, code of conduct and medical forms. Parents are asked to complete and sign all forms and return to your child s teacher by April 10th. Please note: This is a technology free excursion. No phones, ipads, ipods, hand held gaming devises etc. will be allowed. ME to WE On March 26th, our Leadership group has invited Caroline Kingston from the Me to We Foundation to visit Notre Dame to speak about the foundation and all of the amazing projects they are involved in. Caroline will then meet with our Leadership students to plan their next initiative and to inspire the group to continue with it s amazing work. Our students will also present Caroline with a cheque for $10, to fulfill their financial pledge towards the building of a new school house in Kenya.
