1 May 6, 2018 Sixth Sunday of Easter Parish Bulletin Issue 18 Volume L 2025 Stuart Avenue Baton Rouge, Louisiana (225) Fax (225) Website: NEW STAINED GLASS WINDOW MYSTICAL BODY: (Newly Installed 2018, South Window, Transept) Christians form the mystical body of the church. The circle unifies the church through a common Christian effort. It represents community. A directional thrust from the upper left diagonally into the circle signifies God s gifts through transubstantiation. Through this m ystery, we minister to the community. The royalty of Christ the King is exemplified by the use of purple as the major color emphasis. The reds and oranges present religious fervor and the whites signify energy and intellectual purity. 2 Dear friends: Our Challenge Our weekend reading from the Acts of the Apostles reveals that Peter and the other apostles knew that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by our good works or efforts. God broke down Peter s prejudice as the Gentiles in Cornelius house are saved and receive the Holy Spirit in the same manner as the Jews had on the Day of Atonement. Jesus commands mutual love, but he does not mean that we do this because the friends we love, love us. We love others because God first loved us. Love is to be seen above all in the love of the Father as shown forth in the love of the Son. Our thoughts are intentionally directed back to the announcement of the depth of God s love for the world as evidenced in the giving of the Son. A fascinating study on the principle of the Golden Rule was conducted by Bernard Rimland, director of the Institute for Child Behavior Research. Rimland found out that The happiest people are those who help others. Every day we are flooded with poppsych advice about happiness. The relentless message is that there is something we are supposed to do to be happy. Our Founding Fathers even wrote the pursuit of happiness into the Declaration of Independence. God promises us the peace which passes all understanding. We live in world obsessed with the idea of finding happiness. An elderly man once was asked what had robbed him of joy the most in his lifetime. He replied, Things that never happened! Someone else has cited these three keys to happiness: 1. Fret not He loves you (John 13: 1). 2. Faint not He holds you (Psalm 139: 10). 3. Fear not he keeps you (Psalm 121: 5). Have a good week! 4 New Stain Glass Window Cont d from Page 1 the south transept of our church. ARTISTS CONCEPT FOR THE FOUR WINDOW/WALLS: Following discussions with the worship committee, Father Brou, Pastor, and Father Daigle, Associate Pastor, Paul A. Dufour and Samuel Corso considered the theology of the Catholic Church and the focus of St. Aloysius Parish. They then drew from traditional concepts as themes for the stained glass windows for the church. Presenting these concepts in a nonfigurative, yet narrative manner, the window/walls embrace COMMUNITY as a common thread running throughout. Each design focuses on a major colored scheme, enhancing its particular theme and becoming symbolic in the context of the design. While this is the artists interpretation, you are encouraged to contemplate the shapes and colors in the stained glass windows and to use your imagination in conceiving your own religious interpretation for these designs. THE MYSTICAL BODY STAINED GLASS was designed along with the other stained glass windows when the new church was built in , enough funds were not raised at the time for the fabrication & installation of this window. Through the generosity of an anonymous parishioner who wished to see the window completed, it finally graces BAPTISM: (West Window, Main Nave (above the baptistery) Baptism is Christian life growing from water and light. It is a rite of initiation joining members of the Christian community, the body of Christ. Baptism is also a rite of purification and absolution. Cool blue water emerges from the top of the design and flows through the circle in the center. These baptismal waters submerge the community and purify the soul. White symbolizes innocence and holiness. Green represents hope. Red signifies the presence of the Holy Spirit and the sacrifice we are willing to make as Christians. SPIRITUALITY: (Does not yet exist, North Window, Choir/Organ Transept) Spirituality is the essence of humanity; individual spirituality is magnified through the collective consciousness of a unified community. Personal enlightenment comes through the Word and affects our collective spirit. White shapes will symbolize God s presence, emerging from the upper right and running through the circle of community. This portrays our emergence from the darkness of ignorance and void. Vibrant warm colors, red, yellow, and orange will suggest the energy and vitality of Confirmation which are testament to our spirituality. and the whites signify energy and intellectual purity. New Parishioners James Arizini Robert and Lauren Barrios Nick, Ashlyn and Wyatt Bergeron Mary Broussard JOURNEY: (East Window, Main Nave (behind the tabernacle) The Paschal Mystery is a theological message of the Church. Jesus passage through death into life is a journey that all Christians share. The pulsating circle at the top of the design, at times obscured and at times revealed, signifies our growth and Christian vitality. The circle symbolizes the community of the Elect. In our personal journey of faith towards God, our convictions are reinforced through the use of color in this window/wall. The yellow rising up through the center of the design acts as a guiding light to lead the way. This is the intellectual path to heaven. Blue, reminiscent of the waters of baptism, cleanses the soul. Green adds life and growth; reds and oranges are the willingness to sacrifice; white is purity, sanctity, and perfection; grey symbolizes the unknown that challenges us to go forth.
