1 BISHOPVILLE PRIMARY SCHOOL Bishopville Primary students became Brain Buddies this week. 4K, 5K and 3rd grade students participated in the Brain Minders program. The local pilot club has partnered with an organization to provide information through a puppet show program on protecting your brain from injury. Once students have been taught about keeping their brains safe, they will be fitted for helmets. Students are being recognized for their academic achievements this week. Award programs were held all week to recognize all 4K 3rd grade students who were on the Principal s List (all A s), the Honor Roll (all A s and B s), Most Improved, and had Perfect Attendance. Parents and family members joined us as students performed songs and poems and received their certificates. BPS wants to congratulate all the students who were recognized and encourage every student to continue to do their best! Bishopville Primary will hold its April PTO and Spring Title I Planning Meeting on Thursday, April 21st at 6:00. The upcoming state testing will be discussed and students will be performing. Kindergarten students at Bishopville Primary enjoyed an entertaining presentation about protecting their brain. BISHOPVILLE PRIMARY SCHOOL ANNEX On Monday, April 11, 2016 Bishopville Primary School Annex held the Third Nine Weeks Awards Day Program. Students were recognized for Principal s Honor Roll (All A s), A/B Honor Roll, Bringing Up Grades (B.U.G.), Citizenship and Perfect Attendance.
2 Students receiving awards during the Third Nine Weeks Awards Day Program WEST LEE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL First grade has been very busy at West Lee Elementary School. We have recently started our plant unit. Over the next few weeks students will learn about the parts of a seed and the parts of the plant. They will learn about the life cycle of plants and how they are similar and different from the life cycle of animals. Students will also learn about different kinds of plants and the role plants play in an environment. To make the unit interactive, students from both Mrs. Anga Flynn's class and Ms. Hannah Brunson's class are growing their own plants for three weeks. They are already enjoying seeing the changes a plant can undergo as it grows. LEE CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL Lee Central Middle School s motto is Determined to Succeed, and Principal Tonya Addison is excited about the steps that are being made toward reaching that goal. A new measurement tool, EVAAS (South Carolina Value-Added Assessment System) has reflected the growth made by the school. EVAAS tracks growth and progress made by the school toward proficiency. The level of overall proficiency in social studies increased almost 20%, the highest since the school has been here. Then area of science showed growth as well. Addison added that, a highlight of EVAAS is that it tracks the growth over a three year time span. Growth standards are set, and color codes are used to show the level at which they are met. Yellow shows you are meeting the growth standards. Green shows you are going above. LCMS made growth in every area; math, science, social studies, ELA, Algebra 1, and English 1. EVAAS also rates individual teachers, with Level 5 being the highest. A Level 5 indicates that there is significant evidence that the teacher s students progress was above the growth standard. This year only ELA and math teachers were included. Next year all core content teachers will be a part of the rating process. We had several teachers who scored a 5, Addison said. This is significant evidence that students made growth above the growth standard. Teachers receiving a Level 5 rating are Terrijuna Graham, Rosa McPhail, Jalisa Williams and James Price. Three teachers, Brittney Rosser, Rose Boyd-Wells, and Devetter Bradley, received a Level 4 rating.
3 Lee Central Middle School held its second annual Relay for Life Field Day on March 25, The students, faculty and staff raised $797 that will be given to the American Cancer Society to aide in the fight against and cure for cancer. On Monday, April 11, 2016, Kelvonte Wilson, an 8th grader at Lee Central Middle School, was recognized as a Junior Scholar during the Junior Scholars Award Ceremony that was held in the Chapman Auditorium on the campus of Francis Marion University. Kelvonte is the son of Quantella Wilson and the grandson of Patricia Hardwick, James and Rosa Moses. Aaliyah McCollough, LCMS student and Debbie Alexander, Relay for Life Representative Lee Central Middle School Students, Faculty and Staff enjoying the activities Kelvonte Wilson receiving his Junior Scholar award from Mrs. Addison and the Junior Scholar Committee Members Kelvonte Wilson holding his Junior Scholar award
4 LEE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL On Wednesday March 9, 2016 the LCHS JROTC Department hosted its semester command and staff promotions. The Promotion Ceremony is a custom and tradition associated with military services and is adopted by JROTC programs to recognize cadets for their growth and achievements. Promotion is based on the cadet s potential abilities to successfully accomplish a job with increased duties and responsibilities. This applies only to Cadets who have strived in all classes, not just their JROTC class as well as participated actively in service learning and community service projects. The JROTC Instructors place great amount of trust and confidence in these select cadets to help manage the battalion. The current battalion leadership presides over the ceremony with the instructors only providing comments to family and staff highlighting the custom and traditions of military promotion ceremonies. The ceremony is open to parents, faculty and staff in order to make this a memorable event for the cadets. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the students were congratulated by all in attendance. The JROTC Department would like to thank everyone in attendance and more so, thank all the cadets for their hard work in planning and executing this event. Kennedy Corley (11th grade) and Alexandria Layne (11th grade) have been selected to attend the Palmetto Girls State in Clinton, SC this summer during the week of June at Presbyterian College.
