1 ff September Edition WARRIOR PRIDE- - SEPTEMBER- Warrior Pride v Camp Williams v Interview v Spirit Cups Fundraiser v Orienteering Competition v Cadet of the month v Leader of the Month v Parent Orientation WHAT DOESN T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER TAYLORSVILLE JROTC ON SET Taylorsville High School JROTC Battalion was invited to go to a leadership reaction course (LRC) at Camp Williams. Last year we had only about 30 cadets going to Camp Williams. This year we had a record of 60 cadets that participated at the LRC. By the looks of it, this year s program is going to be outstanding. The LRC consisted of doing many Interview strategic courses. Every course had a specific mission to complete in a certain amount of time. It usually took around 15 minutes to attempt to complete a course. Each course required a strategic plan to accomplish into the military? If so what the mission. Some were a little more difficult than others, but in the end it taught cadets to branch? communicate with each other. Some cadets will be coming back to Camp Williams for an Yes, Army to be an orienteering competition. This will give them some type of idea what competition looks like on infantryman. October 15. Also, cadets visited the Marine Corp Reserve Center. Cadets got to witness many different types of armored vehicles and also roamed inside an LAV. Interview After that, they got with to experience a Humvee simulation where they got to experience what it feels like using a Humvee in combat. In the end, cadets got to experience more about c/ltc the military Gonzalez and also a lot of fun. into the military?

2 WARRIOR PRIDE Issue 2 Interview with c/ltc Gonzalez into the military? Yes, Army to be an infantryman. -c/ltc Gonzalez is not planning on joining the Army right after high school. What was it like first starting ROTC? Weird, it was more controlled compared to my chaotic childhood. -Made having a chaotic childhood push him to achieve great things! What made you want to take ROTC in the first place? They came to my junior high and started spinning rifles. -Obviously this caught his eye enough to take ROTC coming into high school. Leading to him becoming Battalion Commander. What is your biggest high school achievement? I would say becoming Battalion Commander, also high school has made me realize my improvement, academically, and also applying to colleges. -When you first meet c/ltc Gonzalez You feel his ability to lead as well as his confidence and passion in what he does for the Taylorsville High JROTC. What is your most embarrassing moment? One time while doing color guard we put the flags in opposite places and the veterans were disappointed and telling us hey, that's wrong so we had to go back up in front of the whole crowd and fix it! -I m sure we have all had an embarrassing moment, this one just happens to be a pretty big one. Where do you see yourself in five years? Going to college for a master s degree in mechanical engineering. -Dream big and stay motivated! Having knowledge in the mechanical field will definitely benefit him in the future. Not only for a regular job but as well as in the army. Most memorable moment in ROTC It was my first year and our first orienteering comp. We were all in ACUs ready to go and it got cancelled because of how hard it was raining! Instead we ran out to the Murray dog park and did grass drills. So basically we were rolling around in mud! we were singing songs and playing games. I lived a day in a movie! -No matter the weather, still have to train! This just shows the dedication and love all the members of Taylorsville JROTC have for what they do. By [c/mckean] BC c/ltc Gonzalez in both pictures.

3 WARRIOR PRIDE Issue 3 Spirit Cups Fundraiser he spirit cups fundraiser was a new type of fundraising for the battalion. This is he first year we have ever sold cups for fundraiser. These were no ordinary cups hough, these were cups with logos of your favorite football, soccer, and more on hem. They could also be custom made to however one wants it. Each company in he battalion had a competition to see who could sell the most cups. Whoever sold he most cups got a reward. Also, each company had a goal on how many cups they ad to sell. If that goal was not met, then consequences were made such as, all the oys in the company had to get a makeover from the girls. This made cadets out nd moving to sell these cups. he company with the highest fundraising stats earned a battle streamer for their ompany. his fundraiser will go to all the field trips and supplies that we need for this year to e a great year. C/LTC Gonzalez said, We have a great program this year. The ear s cadets are o determined and motivated to make this year a great year. Warrior Pride Sat. 24, 2016 September Orienteering Competition First place say what? That s right c/ Vanorman and c/ Jackson took place first in the advanced section of the orienteering competition. Alongside this, c/msg Seutafili with c/ltc Gonzalez won third place and c/sgm Lee with c/1lt Haynes won fifth in the advanced section of the orienteering competition. In the novice section of competition, c/ Burt and c/ Avila won third place while c/ Anderson and c/ Burroughs won fifth place. Finding points using only a compass and a map on a time restricted cross country competition was hard enough but the team also had to battle the cold weather and a muddy terrain. There were five schools competing against each other each with about twenty cadets from each school all but Taylorsville who brought forty cadets. So not only did we dominate by the number of places we took, we dominated in size as well. Let s just say the battalion is very proud of our orienteering team and are looking forward to the next competition on the fifteenth of October. By [c/msg Seutafili]

4 WARRIOR PRIDE Issue 4 Leader of the Month This month s leader of the month was a great way to start off the year. One LET-2 or LET-3, rom each company, competed against each other to be nominated as the LOM. For some of hem, this is new. Others, it s just another LOM. Nonetheless, they still gave it their all to win and compete for the quarter of the month. As always, he cadets on the board made this month s LOM very difficult. Questions being asked were fairly easy and also surprising: how many people died n the train wreck in New Jersey? Questions like, who is the president? Most cadets know the answer to this but did not know anything about he train wreck in New Jersey. This caught most of them off guard, but they stood their ground. In he next LOM, most cadets will learn to be prepared, study hard, and perform with confidence. Parent Orientation Parents of the cadets in the battalion had an amazing time learning about what their children do n this program. Everybody in the battalion worked hard and did their part to make this event a successful one. This goes to show how much effort the cadets put in. There were designated cadets responsible for a specific job. Some in charge of color guard, others in charge of the rope bridge. Rope Bridge was performed by the Raider Team outside by the parking lot. The parents were very happy to see what their child does and gain some kind of idea to what they do after school. Also, everyone had refreshments while they to listen to Colonel Anderson and some of the cadets in the program. The highlight of this day was the battalion drill down/stare down. This is where the cadets got o show off their stationary movement skills in front of everyone. This event, is the event that will spark ll other events such as the military ball, drill comp, and many more. By [c/msg Seutafili] CADET OF THE MONTH Cadet of the month for September was very competitive this year. The motivated LET-1 s that were competing were not letting this one go. Most of them studied for weeks prior to this event. These cadets not only want to win, but also represent their company within the battalion. The competitors knew it wasn t going to be easy, so their representatives assisted them as much they could. Going up for Alpha Company was Dacker Miur. Representing him was Alvin Chung. Cadet Chung made sure his cadet was ready for the board. After Miur finished, both of them felt confident they were taking this one for Alpha. Meanwhile in Charlie Company, there was a little bit of a miscommunication. Going up for the board was Cadet Erickson. Her representative, De La Cruz used the wrong LET book for Erickson to study. For weeks, she has been learning the wrong things. This made her very upset and also for Charlie Company. In the end, this event motivated cadets to work hard and gain more confidence in themselves.
