2 School Preparedness WHAT: Elementary School Response Plan Review WHO: Fort Polk DES, Vernon Parish Sheriff s Office, Parkway Elementary, and North Polk Elementary WHEN: 26 Feb - 15 Mar 2018 School Resource Officers, Elementary School Administration, Patrol Officers and DES Staff work as a team to protect Fort Polk schools. North Polk Elementary School The team discusses security issues, trends, and mitigation efforts. Parkway Elementary School - Vernon Parish s newest facility WHERE: Fort Polk, Louisiana WHY: In response to recent national events Fort Polk DES, VPSO, and School Administrators from both on post schools reviewed and tested preparedness to respond to school crises. MAJOR AREAS OBSERVED: - Lockdown drill - Response to fire alarm - Emergency communications - Physical security measures - Student drop off and pick up (bus and parent) - Deliveries DES reviewed response plans of Parkway/North Polk Elementary Schools. Preparedness and immediate action plans were discussed with faculty and staff. Both schools conducted exercises which concentrated on immediate actions in response to an intruder. Vernon Parish Sheriff s Office assisted with the evaluation of school physical security posture. Both schools are well prepared to respond to crises. POC: Leo M.
