Brook services provide free and confidential sexual health information, contraception, pregnancy testing, advice and counselling, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and outreach and education work, reaching over 290,000 young people every year. Becoming a Bigger, bolder, better Brook Until 2011 Brook operated as a network of independent charities but we have now merged into a group of 17 subsidiary charities under a parent company. There are 13 centres in England and one each in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Jersey. We employ over 600 staff across the UK. 3 We have three key business areas; Clinical and support services including provision of contraception, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and counseling. Education and training this is rights based and needs led. Education is provided for young people and training for professionals. Campaigning, lobbying and advocacy to educate and influence young people, parents and carers, professionals, parliamentarians and other decision makers. The following weblink shows the areas that we cover The Ask Brook helpline is also available to all young people under 25 and provides a free and confidential telephone helpline , text information service and secure online enquiry service via Education For Choice Education For Choice (EFC) is a project of Brook and supports young people s right to informed choice on abortion by: delivering workshops for young people; providing evidence-based information and resources; and training health and education professionals. EFC calls for all young people to get accurate information and good quality education about abortion, and impartial support with pregnancy decisionmaking whoever they are, whoever they ask and wherever they go. We know that young people want SRE that is relevant to their lives, focuses on relationships as well as sex, is honest about human sexuality and taught by professionals who are well prepared and confident. 6 Role Specification Nurse Manager Post: Nurse Manager Ref: WIG463 Reports to: Service Manager Location: Wigan and Leigh Hours: 37.5 hours per week Job summary To be responsible for the efficient and effective running of the nursing and clinical services including the effective professional leadership of all nursing and clinical services staff within the specific cluster or group of services within the Area The post-holder will play an active role in the leadership of Brook and take personal responsibility for ensuring staff are engaged in supporting the wider work of the organisation. Key accountabilities Across the Area To provide senior nurse management cover for other senior nurse colleagues across the area including providing safeguarding advice and cross cover for during annual leave and other absences of colleagues. Across the Service o Responsible for ensuring clinical services are focused on the needs of young people within their service area. o To be the Designated Safeguarding Lead and CQC Registered Manager within their service area providing safeguarding advice and support to staff. o Responsible for daily coordination and supervision of clinics and rotas. o Responsible for ensuring nurses and clinic support workers are working within clinical governance framework and are clinically competent. 7 This includes monitoring nursing and support worker standards and practices. o Day to day leadership and management for all nursing and/or clinical/and as appropriate support staff within the service including managing performance, absence, appraisal and professional development. o Responsible for overseeing clinical operating procedures within their Service Area. o Responsible for implementing and monitoring CQC / Brook / Quality clinical standards within their service area in line with legal and professional guidelines including infection control and PGDs. o Responsible for implementing appropriate clinical Information Governance standards within their service area and maintaining professional standards of confidentiality and privacy within Brook s policies and procedures. o Responsible for monitoring and reporting on clinical services contract delivery and performance within their service area and attending meetings with commissioners as required. o Responsible for overseeing of systems and processes that enable valid and reliable recording of clinical performance data / contract data within their Service Area. o Responsible for professional leadership and development of nurses and clinic support workers within their Service Area including induction and competency assessments. o Responsible for conducting audits as directed by the Service Manager, Regional Nurse Lead and Head of Nursing / Clinical Director. o Responsible for ensuring a healthy and safe working clinical environment for clients and staff whether in a clinic or outreach environment. o Attending professional and clinical lead meetings and contributing to peer assessment and attending regional senior nurse meetings as required by Head of Nursing and Clinical Director. o To work closely with the Regional Nurse Lead and HR to produce a nursing skills plan and recruitment and retention plans. o To provide support to develop tenders and reviewing service delivery models to ensure that the needs of young people are met in an effective and efficient way. 8 Person Specification The successful applicant will have the following experience; Essential Current NMC registration. Relevant qualifications in contraception. Senior nurse management experience. Experience of having lead changes in clinical practice and driving improvements. Up to date knowledge and experience of sexual health policies and practice. Experience of managing and developing operational clinical services. Knowledge and experience of the day to day running of a Brook service and the Brook offer. Experience of leading and motivating staff through major service change. Experience monitoring service performance against contracts. Willingness to work towards general nurse education teaching qualifications or equivalent. Desirable Experience of the commissioning process, of developing strategic relationships, overseeing bidding and tenders processes and supporting new services. Experience of leading and managing multi-disciplinary professional and clinical teams Experience of financial/budget management Ability to analyse a range of business and clinical service information. Able to undertake clinical service reviews and analysis of business plans and tenders. Experience of managing wide range of clinical and outreach contexts Experience of working with external partners, commissioner and regulators.
