1 ENABLER JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Enabler Hours: please see Appendix 1 & 2 Salary: Line Manager: Dependant on competency level and shift disturbance allowance- see appendix for details Team Leader Main purpose of the Job To contribute to the delivery of high quality education, health, therapy and social care at WESC To contribute towards the delivery of high quality individual care for learners To ensure high standards of education relating to the health and social care agenda are maintained To work with learners in a person centred way by listening and responding to their wishes and aspirations by involving the learner, families and friends to work in partnership and the WESC Foundation to achieve this To promote choice and involvement by facilitating the learner to make their own decisions. Duties and Responsibilities To work closely within a multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of high professional standards of health, therapy, education and social care for the learners at the WESC Foundation. To support young people with a range of communication needs allowing them to access learning and make choices, this may include use of access technology, Braille and other communication methods. To ensure young people are safe and that any safeguarding issues are accurately assessed, notified and recorded in line with WESC policy. To provide personal care. To dispense, order and monitor medication within WESC protocols. To support young people in the pool. To support young people in a range of settings and activities, on and off campus. To be responsible for updating and maintaining WESC IT systems to ensure that care plans, protocols and risk assessments are produced and implemented for all young people; within agreed standards. 1
2 To record daily activities and progress made by young people at WESC. To actively support learners who are unwell by monitoring their condition, observing and recording on IT systems and notifying relevant staff. To accurately record and assess incidents and accidents on WESC IT systems. To work within WESC intervention policies to ensure the safety of staff and young people is maintained. To carry out domestic duties as required. To work in collaboration with other members of the team, to implement and evaluate the standards of health, therapy and social care services across campus, and promote the health and wellbeing of the learners. To liaise with parents, staff, and other professionals as appropriate. To utilise a range of WESC IT systems and regularly check electronic communications to keep abreast of changes and respond to requests. Responsibilities of all WESC staff All staff are to maintain a safe and healthy working place and systems of work, and promote Equality of Opportunity within their own practice All staff are required to familiarise themselves and work within WESC Code of Conduct, maintaining confidentiality and promoting the Organisation in a positive manner at all times. All staff will be expected to complete the WESC Induction Programme and other training as directed. Some posts require mandatory training and this must be complete within the stated timescales. Staff working part-time or shifts must make themselves available for mandatory training. All staff will attend or deliver appropriate CPD/training sessions either in the employer s or their own time. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and clients and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are conditional to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring check and staff have a responsibility to inform WESC of any conviction or prosecution that occurs whilst employed Staff may be required to undertake additional or revised duties as requested by the Principal or managers This job description does not define in detail all duties and responsibilities of the post. 3 FACTORS ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Qualifications: NVQ 3 in health and social care (or equivalent social care qualification) Or able to achieve this within first 2 years of employment at WESC Braille level 1 or 2 Valid First aid certificate Intervenor qualified Experience and knowledge: Some understanding of Child and Adult Protection issues Experience of using IT systems and electronic record keeping Previous experience of providing support to children or vulnerable adults. Basic numeracy and literacy Knowledge and experience of working in an educational/residential care setting Experience of working with children or adults with learning disabilities and complex needs Experience of working with vision impairment Experience of making using a range of communication tools to Skills and Ability: To be able to work with guidance and support To model behaviour which demonstrates respect and empathy for others To have the ability to work in collaboration with and respect the contributions of colleagues and others To proactively respond to WESC young people needs Ability to work unsupervised Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy Problem solving, able to make sound judgements and recommendations 3
4 Good organisational skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues in an appropriate manner; High level of tact, diplomacy and initiative Physically able to support young people, assisting with swimming, manual handling etc Able to apply learning, ie using intervention techniques safely.
