Job description for the post of: Deputy Head of Department: Nurse Education EHM Accountable to: Reports to: Liaises with: Pro Vice-Chancellor/Dean, Faculty of Health and Social Care Head of Department: Nurse Education Associate Deans, Heads and Associate Heads of Department/Field Leaders in Nurse Education The Department of Nurse Education provides a range of professional nursing programmes within the Faculty of Health and Social Care. Typically, these programmes address pre and post registration education needs across all fields of nursing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A key feature of all nursing programmes is the applied nature of study, which in turn supports the future nursing workforce needs in a wide range of health and social care environments. The Post The post holder will work in tandem with the Head of Department and Associate Heads of Department in leading the achievement of a high quality, positive student experience. A key aspect of the role will be to assume responsibility for the student experience across all programmes and play a significant role in steering the development and management of the post-qualifying educational portfolio. The role holder is a member of the Department of Nurse Education management team. They will have shared responsibility for contributing to the development and leadership of the department but specifically for providing leadership and management support for the nursing portfolio, to ensure long-term sustainability. The role holder will contribute to the further development of a high-performance culture through staff engagement providing leadership, vision and direction to staff within the Department of Nurse Education. The post holder will ensure that the nursing teams maintain and enhance their excellent reputation and position as leading providers of high quality nursing education. Ensuring that educational programmes demonstrably increase levels of achievement and student satisfaction in all areas of learning and teaching, and that they embed best practice and continuous quality improvement processes. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the post holder will work with the Head and Associate Heads of Department to ensure management level responsibility for quality assurance and enhancement and for all learning and teaching strategies that underpin the provision of the education programmes. The role holder will also take lead responsibility for all quality assurance and improvement reviews including those of professional bodies and funding organisations within the area of responsibility.

2 Duties and responsibilities The duties and responsibilities of this post are as follows. The post holder will carry out the following as and when required. 1. Corporate Responsibilities The post holder will a) Participate in the University s decision-making process. b) Contribute to the fulfilment of Edge Hill University s Mission Statement and Strategic Plan by implementing agreed Edge Hill policy. c) Contribute to and serve as appropriate on internal/external committees, working and advisory groups. d) Conduct and promote high quality research and scholarship that enhances the University s reputation. e) Encourage and promote the generation of income, including the provision of research and consultancy. f) Promote and facilitate cross-university and inter-disciplinary developments in overall course provision. g) Support Edge Hill s further development and respond to the needs generated by a diverse student body. h) Promote and implement Edge Hill s equal opportunities policies. Specific duties and responsibilities The post-holder will be required to: a) Take responsibility for the academic leadership and operational direction within your sphere of responsibility. b) Engage fully as a member of the Department s Senior Management Team, contributing collaboratively to the strategic and operational management of the Department ensuring alignment of the Departmental Action Plans to those of the Faculty and wider University strategies. c) Employing highly effective systems for strategic and operational planning within the area of responsibility including contributing, or leading, the development of an annual monitoring/action plan aligned to the Departments strategy, objectives, programme developments, business needs and individual personal objectives. d) Take responsibility for leading the strategic organisation, management and delivery of all educational programmes, within area of responsibility. Ensure highly effective operational delivery of all educational provision leading to professional registration, and beyond, ensuring that the student experience is at the heart of all delivery.

3 e) Consult and represent the views of staff within the Department and communicate Departmental strategy and policy to relevant staff and ensure informed compliance. f) Lead and oversee the development of innovative curricula. Ensuring that high quality and innovative learning and teaching is provided to all students. Maintaining management responsibility for the delivery of effective, efficient and innovative teaching, learning and across undergraduate and post-registration provision. g) Undertake line management, performance review, probation and development of designated staff. h) Provide high profile research leadership and develop research capacity in all staff. Develop a scholarly community within academic teams. i) Lead and support staff colleagues in raising the regional, national and international profile of the University through scholarly activity, publication, conference presentation and consultancy. j) Provide inspirational leadership and ensure staff experience highly effective management practices. Develop and sustain a culture of outstanding performance through an empowering leadership style, which delivers high levels of staff engagement. k) Contribute to Faculty strategic planning, curriculum development and ongoing quality review related to relevant educational programmes within the Faculty. l) Develop new collaborative partnerships that will ensure that nurse education is recognised as a national leader. Ensure the management of effective and productive links with key stakeholders related to areas of responsibility locally, nationally and internationally. i) Advise the Head of Nurse Education on the resource requirements for your areas of responsibility including staffing resources, and assist in determining the future planning requirements of the Department. m) Advise on, and represent, the interests of the students with regard to engagement with NSS, department SSCF, Programmes Board and other Faculty/ University Committees and Working Groups as required. n) Take shared responsibility for the effective management of all aspects of student disciple, fitness to/for practice and safeguarding issues. o) Ensure that educational provision is business facing and developed in collaboration with employers and key stakeholders where appropriate. p) Gather relevant market intelligence around educational provision and ensure that the Faculty reaches new audiences. Provide leadership to the academic team to promote and enhance student recruitment across undergraduate/postgraduate provision that lead to professional registration, and beyond. q) To attend cross Faculty meetings and Boards of study as required and to produce reports for both internal and external stakeholders as required.

4 r) Carry out any other duties associated with the area to be included by the Pro Vice- Chancellor/Dean of Faculty, or designated representative. In addition to the above duties all staff are required to: a) Participate in Edge Hill University s Performance Review scheme. b) Respect confidentiality and ensure that confidential information is kept in confidence and not released to unauthorised persons. c) Comply with legislation and adhere to Edge Hill University s policies and procedures and attend appropriate training as required, including Health and Safety. d) Manage and enhance their own personal performance. e) Participate in work-related training and staff development. f) Adhere to Edge Hill University s environment policy and guidelines and undertake tasks in a sustainable manner. g) Other duties which may be assigned by the Heads of Nurse Education from time to time and which are consistent with the grading and knowledge base of the post. Salary: Hours : up to 59,930 per annum Full Time Candidates should note that they will be shortlisted based on information provided on the application form with regard to the applicant s ability to meet the criteria outlined in the Person Specification form attached. Essential Desirable *Method of (I/A/P) Qualifications 1 A good relevant honours degree or equivalent qualification and experience of Higher Education learning 2 Higher qualifications relevant to the post, such as a Postgraduate degree, or evidence of satisfactory progress towards such qualifications * A * A 3 Registration with the NMC * A 4 PhD or other research training * A Experience and Knowledge 5 Successful experience of teaching, student support and guidance and quality enhancement in a relevant HE academic environment 6 Effective and experienced of successfully leading, managing and motivating a large team of academic staff in a University environment i.e. at Head/Deputy Head level 7 Significant experience of understanding healthcare practices with relevant contemporaneous personal currency in relation to developments in health care delivery. 8 Excellent relationship building and networking skills with the ability to influence and persuade a wide range of audiences. * I/P
