4 After several stupendous weeks of donations, we tailed off drastically last week. But now we are coming down to the final push. March is ending and we want to have our stuffing party in April. So if you haven t been to a hotel recently because you have been too busy working, or because you haven t been able to afford to go away for a few days, or if you are too cheap to stay at a hotel, I have great news for you. You have a fantastic opportunity this next week. You can stay at the Historic Santa Maria Inn at a special Rotary rate and then filch the shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, toothpaste, and mouth wash for Rotary. And don t feel guilty for absconding with these hygiene items, you have already paid for them. They are yours, so take them, and any other ones that you can find. The Good Samaritan Homeless Shelter and Domestic Violence Solutions won t rat you out for taking more than one set of hygiene articles. John Henning The basketball tournament is coming down to the final week and the competition between the Rotary and Kiwanis for donations to the Tri Counties Blood Bank will be over in a few days. The last time I checked we were losing, but that just means that our last minute impossible push to victory will be all the more dramatic. A large number of Rotarians... no that s not right. Many Rotarians... no, that s not right either. Some Rotarians... that s still not right. A few Rotarians... that s closer, but still not right. How about, I heard one Rotarian tell another that he didn t like to donate bodily fluids. Well I know who you are and that phobia of donation of bodily fluids was not manifested when you met that floosy in the bar and told her that you were going to be making a donation to the sperm bank the next day and wanted to practice with her. The truth is that nobody likes to be stuck with a needle, but it only lasts a second and the life saving capabilities of that unit of blood far outweigh a moment of inconvenience. If you really do have a phobia of needles, then ask your spouse to donate, or your friends, or neighbors, or you coworkers. Just remember to tell them that you want that unit of blood to be credited to the Rotary. And we need to do this by March 31 st. Sir John Henning 4

It is imperative that we get them at least four days before the event to make sure that we have enough food and room at the Venues and Classrooms. What is a District Assembly? The District Assembly is the most important meeting of the new Rotary year! It provides M.I.T. Motivation, Information, and Training for incoming Club Officers and Board Members. It s an opportunity for new members to learn more about the goals and activities of Rotary; a chance to prepare for potential future leadership involvement at the Club, District, and International levels; and a forum for meeting motivated Rotarians from other Clubs in our great District Who should attend the District Assembly? Attendance at a District Assembly can be important to any serious Rotarian. Typically, those who profit most include: all incoming Club Officers, President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Directors. All Chairpersons under the Directorships of Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service, and the Rotary Foundation should attend. Special training is also offered in classes such as Social Media, Membership and Rotaract. The District Assembly is great for all new Rotarians or any Rotary member who has never attended a District Rotary event along with any committed Rotarian who may become a future Club leader, or who is a past leader with experiences and ideas to share. Of particular note, we will have Lauren Marquez-Viso, The Rotary Foundation Grants Coordinator, at the Oxnard venue to present training from the expert at Rotary International. The morning Grants session with her will be for District staff. The afternoon session will be for club leaders (International Service Director, club Grants Chair, etc.) Why attend the District Assembly? The District Assembly is an important opportunity for an individual Rotarian to learn, to share, and to better understand Rotary at the Club, District, and International levels. Assembly classes will be coordinated and taught by dedicated and knowledgeable Rotarians who promise to make your day a useful and enjoyable one. A major purpose of the Assembly is to avoid reinventing the wheel, to offer experiences of those who have been there. Cost of the District Assembly Cost for the District Assembly will be nominal and will be for an entire club regardless of the number of attendees to encourage attendance and opportunities for training. All clubs will be assessed regardless of number of members attending or if no members attend.
