1 The Tattler Rotary Club of La Mesa Volume , No.78 Meeting Date: 2/10/16 Wednesday s ednesday Noon, La Mesa Community Center, 4975 Memorial Drive, La Mesa CA District High School Music Contest The purpose of the competition is to determine the musician who best demonstrates his or her musical talent and love for music/ Prize money will be awarded at each level of completions: Rotary Club Contest, Rotary Area Contest, and the Finals at the District Contest. The competition is open to High School students residing in the District 5340 region limited to instrumentalist only. This program is sponsored by District All performances must be between 3 to 8 m minutes. Martin Brickson, Bonnie Welch & Jim Kline have all earned their next Paul Harris Award for their generosity to the Rotary Foundation during mark s term. Janice was able to thank them from the District for their contributions!
3 La Mesa Rotary Club Donates $500 to Home of Guiding Hands La Mesa Rotary Board of Directors President: Mark Mathews As part of our annual Charitable Giving campaign, the La Mesa Rotary was able to present representatives from the Home for Guiding Hands a check for $500. Thanks to club member Dr. Glenn Kellogg for being the sponsor. 4 District Governor Janice Kurth Visits La Mesa Rotary If you missed the meeting last Wednesday then you missed our annual visit from the sitting District Governor of Rotary District 5340 Mrs. Janice Kurth. During her visit she was able to recognize 3 of our members for Paul Harris Award and also 3 members for their contributions to La Mesa Rotary - behind the scenes: Marin Brickson, Don Jenkinson & Deric Bailey. Janice also told us how being involved in Rotary has changed her life. It is always great to have a visit from our District Governor!
5 DISTRICT DINNER AT STORE BREWERY Tuesday February 9th 6:00 pm Come have a great time of fellowship with other Rotarians at the Stone Brewery location at Liberty Station on Tuesday, February 9th. District 5340 is sponsoring a Beer Tasting Event and Dinner. The location is Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens - Liberty Station; 2816 Historic Decatur Road, San Diego. The event begins at 6:00 PM with beer tasting followed by dinner at 7:00. Music by guitarist John Robinson. The cost is $55 per person and that includes dinner and 2 beer tastings. Reservations can be made by going to the District 5340 website at La Mesa Rotary New Member Application Mario Duff has applied for membership with La Mesa Rotary. Mario is currently a System Analyst with Qualcomm. Her club sponsor is Bonnie Welch.
6 Rotary 4-Way Test Speech Contest Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Del Mar The 4-Way Test Of the things we think, say, or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Sam Bauchmann is leading the push for La Mesa Rotary to get high school students from the schools we sponsor (Grossmont, Patrick Henry, Mount Miguel & Monte Vista) to compete in the 4-Way Test Speech competition. He has a packet of information if you know of any students that would be interested. General Guidelines: 1. The purpose is to help youth. Rotarians and the community-at-large to more completely understand, encourage, and foster the principles of Rotary and the objects of Service Above Self. 2. The contest is open to all studentsapproved by the high school. Each school will hold its own contest, sponsored and arranged by the Rotary Club, or, when available, its associated interact club. There is a full packet of information available through Sam. Watch the TATTLER for more information on the timing of this program.
