1 County Centennial! n February 6, A.D. 2017: The Tooth, the Whole Tooth, and Nothing But the Tooth! A Century of Independence from Blaine! Camas County turns 100 today! Go Mushers! Free! We re free! Liberty Leading the People, Eugéne Delacroix, 1830 Independence! On February 6, 1917, a brand new Idaho county Camas County was carved off from the western side of Blaine County and became a sovereign political entity of the state of Idaho. The newly liberated county could boast of two main settlements: dwindling Soldier and bustling Fairfield, the latter sited next to the new railroad line. Home now to a little over a thousand souls, Camas County is Idaho s second least populous county, and in the middle of the 44-county pack in area, with 1,075 square miles.

Mushers Eke Out a Squeaker at Hagerman last week! D arn! I lost my notes! But here s what I remember. Last Monday s basketball game with Hagerman concluded in a 61/61 tie, but in overtime, the Camas team rolled over Hagerman in a bosomclutcher! On to Hansen and Murtaugh, and District! Go Mushers! FFA Camas Chapter starts! The Camas County FFA Chapter held its first meeting on Wednesday, January 18 at the Camas school, after being inactive for three years. The Chapter officers for this year are Megan Tews, President; Dawsen Rasmussen, Vice President; KC Hainline, Secretary, Treasurer and Reporter; and Zach Reedy, Sentinel. Zoo. The OSU work reveals that beavers have 26,200 genes, or about 33 percent more inheritable information that humans do. The project was undertaken partly because of fondness for the OSU mascot, but will also contribute to understanding of beaverology in all its aspects, as well as illuminate the evolutionary history of our industrious web-footed cousins. Filbert, the DNA-donating beaver (photo courtesy of OSU Extension Service)! Doughnut orders due Tuesdåy! Camas County PTO: The PTO is happy to bring back a fundraiser you 'DONUT' want to miss! Help us raise money to go back to the school! Prizes for top sellers!! Turn in order forms and money! February 10: Doughnut buyers may pick up the glorious Os at school from 3:30-6 p.m.! We are looking forward to attending FFA events and getting the word out in the community. Our meetings are scheduled for the first Thursday of every month at 12:05 p.m. Any high school student enrolled in an ag class can be a FFA member! OSU sequences beaver genome! According to press releases from Oregon State University, an OSU team has, for the first time, sequenced the entire genome of the North American beaver. The noble rodent is famously the mascot of the OSU athletic program. OSU funded the research effort, estimated to cost upwards of $30,000, using a crowdfunding campaign conduced on social media. For its genetic material, the project used a blood sample donated by Filbert, a prominent resident of the Portland
