Spring is a reminder that change is constant, and even though winters can be cold, harsh, and colorless, it only lasts for a season. Spring is the season where change takes place and provides us with flourishing new growth and rich, vibrant colors, assuring us that life will go on, and that we are not meant to dwell on the past, but to move forward and reach for new heights. Seasons and businesses have much in common, don t you think? Our Chamber is endlessly dedicated to serving our members, and has not ceased in redirecting our efforts into developing new opportunities to create diverse revenue streams. We can t wait for you to experience the plans we have in the months to come, and we invite you to join us by volunteering, brainstorming, serving on a committee, sharing event information, and taking ownership of new events through sponsorships and advertising support. We d love to hear your ideas for new events, activities, and fundraisers too. The more ideas we accumulate, the more opportunities we can implement, and the bigger impact we can have on generating business into Berea. It is also important that we advocate for a business friendly community. We should deem it a priority for our community to become the most business friendly in our region, if we desire to attract entrepreneurs and small business owners, as well as large scale manufacturers and corporations who could locate their businesses in Berea or Madison County. Economic development requires partnerships, support of local government, and seeking out new opportunities, not just waiting for those opportunities to find us by chance luck. We have an industrial park to fill, and a town that s perfect for unique businesses, let s be bold and take an economic lead. Make beautiful Berea become bountiful Berea. Looking back over April, wow! We ve experienced steady increases in membership and are continuing to attract new members (from the overwhelming support we ve received after the Spoonbread Festival became the target of unprovoked attention). Check out Dinner Bell s amazing new gift shop, and say congratulations to Kentucky One Health Primary Care facility, Gold Star Chili, and Rental Pro for making the decision to expand into Berea. Thank you to Morning Pointe and Benchmark Mortgage, both located in Richmond, for hosting April s Chamber Coffee and our Monthly Meeting. Also, Chamber members toured the Community College and Clark County High School campuses in Winchester, to gain ideas for bringing technical training into Berea to meet the needs of our local industries. What s coming in May? National Day of Prayer in front of Berea City Hall on May 5 th, Chamber Coffee on May 10 th at CVNB, Chamber awards two College Scholarships, one to a Senior at Berea Community H.S. and one to a Senior at Madison Southern H.S., State of the County Address with Leadership Madison County Graduation on May 20 th, local high school graduations, and of course, Memorial Day on May 30 th. 2 Executive Director s Comments BCOC Scholarship Program Last year as the school year was coming to a close, the Berea Chamber of Commerce recognized Austin Warford from Berea Community School and Meghan Smith from Madison Southern High School as recipients of our newly created scholarships. Each received $1,000 to assist with their educational expenses. Earlier today, our scholarship committee met to review our 2016 scholarship applicants and I am proud to say that we have another outstanding group of young men and women, who plan to further their education. Chamber President Jennifer Napier will be presenting the scholarships and plaques during the awards day ceremonies scheduled for May 10th at Madison Southern and May 17th at Berea Community. Consequently, I will wait until next month to announce our 2016 scholarship recipients. Our Gold (Corporate) Partners During the coming year, our scholarship committee is planning to develop one or more fundraising activities to help grow our scholarship fund for If you have ideas for unique fundraising campaigns or would like to volunteer to serve on this committee, please call the Chamber office and have your name and address added to our distribution list for future committee communications and meeting notices. Get involved and help us grow Berea s next generation of business leaders! Sincerely, David Our Silver (Business) Partners On Monday, April 4th Congressman Andy Barr stopped by the Dinner Bell Restaurant for Lunch with Your Congressman as he traveled throughout the district. He provided a Washington update and fielded questions from the crowd. Our Bronze (Associate) Partners
