Great weather, excellent planning, and super programming all contributed to the success of this year s festival. Volunteers from the local businesses, schools, the city, and the Chamber all helped the festival run smoothly. As I walked back and forth to Berea Community School from the Acton Folk Center, I saw vehicles from all over the south east including Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia, West Virginia, and Ohio. A special thanks goes out to David Rowlette and his family for the incredible number of hours spent in preparation of the festival and the hours spent during the festival. Preliminary work for offering a Chamber of Commerce Scholarship to a graduate of Berea Community High School and a graduate of Madison Southern High School continues to progress. If you d like to be involved in the development of the scholarship, let David know and he can get you the meeting information. Chamber activities for the month of October include our monthly Chamber Coffee, which will be hosted by our friends at Citizens Guaranty Bank on October 14 and our monthly membership meeting will be a Joint Legislative Update Luncheon with the Richmond Chamber of Commerce on Friday, October 17th at the Madison County Extension Office. We also want to welcome our newest Chamber members: Area Christian Theatrical Society, Eagle Financial Services, Maxam Family Dental and Saint Joseph Outpatient Care Center. They add to a growing, healthy Chamber committed to the well-being of Berea. Please stop by and visit these new members as the opportunity arises. Thank you all for your work in helping make Berea a great place to live, work, and play. Please let me know how I can better serve you as president for this year. 2 Executive Director s Comments Nominations Being Accepted for Chamber Board of Directors Each October as election time nears, we activate the Nominating Committee and begin the process of electing new Board members through our annual Chamber Board of Directors election, which will be held in November. Our goal is to maintain a diverse Board, which reflects our membership with no more than three Board members from the same membership category. To insure some continuity from year to year, we have staggered the three year terms of our Board members so that approximately 1/3 of the Board members are new each year. Our by-laws also permit Board members to be reelected up to three consecutive three year terms before requiring a one year break in service. Corporate Partners of the Berea Chamber of Commerce Please take some time and carefully review the expectations of our Board members and then complete and return the Nominating Form that is included in this newsletter on page 9. Your assistance in encouraging and nominating leaders from our business community to serve on our Board of Directors will help the Chamber and our community prosper in the coming years. Self nominations are encouraged and welcomed!
