1 2013 STRATEGIC PLAN Six Month Review OUR PRIORITIES FOR Organizational Development; 2. Business and Economic Development; 3. Community Development; 4. Educational Achievement; 5. Events & Revenue PROGRESS ON THESE PRIORITIES Organizational Development Mission: To enhance and promote the services provided by the Chamber. Develop and market the new membership -The new membership package was developed and promotion began in January benefits package 2013 at the Annual Meeting. -Between January and June, 33 new members joined and four members did not renew. Feedback was gained from the non-renewals and the reasons were specifically related to their business rather than dissatisfaction with the Chamber. -The total number of members at the end of June was 267. Maintain regular contact with existing -Membership Outreach started in April. members, promote the Chamber to potential -Ongoing promotion via meetings, business visits and events. members, and promote the Chamber to the wider community. 2 Design and develop a new website and technological resources (e.g. app). Develop and deliver a marketing and communication plan for the Chamber. Heart Association Art Walk, May 24 th : Franklin Clinic, May 31 st : Second Edition. & June 28 th : Verizon Wireless). -Four Business After Hours have been held (February 28 th : Derailed Diner, April 25 th : Dragonfly Photography & Infinity Massage; May 16 th : City of Bay Minette & NBU, & June 6 th : Holly Hills Country Club). -The new website went live on April 1 st and all feedback has been positive. -The approach thus far has been to specifically tailor marketing and communication plans for each event. Develop and promote Business Legislative Agenda. Regularly communicate with government officials at local, county, state and national levels, advocating for the interests of businesses. Facilitate opportunities for businesses and community to interact with elected officials. -The Committee agreed that it was not necessary to develop an Agenda; the agreed approach is to table consideration of each legislative issue as it arises. -Attended and provided support to Historic District Tax Credit Bill and Build the Bridge Coalition. -NBCC employees attend City Council work session; quarterly meetings have been held with the Mayor; regular meetings and contact with County Administrator and Commissioners; contact with state and national representatives. -Have organized and helped to promote events that bring together the community and elected officials (e.g. Senator Marc Keahey at Business at Breakfast, Congressman Jo Bonner s Town Hall Meeting, Baldwin County Commission s Live Oak Masterplan consultation). 2
3 Business and Economic Development Mission: To facilitate successful business and economic development opportunities. Encourage new business start-ups and relocation to the North Baldwin area, ranging relocations. 4 Promote innovative ideas for starting and funding businesses (e.g. incubators, cooperatives, pop-up shops, group funding). Work in partnership to develop eco-friendly tourist attractions and events, and the necessary infrastructure to sustain this industry. -This is incorporated into the start a business campaign. -The Tourism Working Group has met three times and an inventory of tourist attractions is in the final stage of completion. -A Tourism Summit of key stakeholders has been scheduled for November 15 th. This is the first stage of planning. Develop and deliver promotional resources (e.g. website, app, social media) for tourism in North Baldwin. Work in partnership to increase the number of businesses and community events, and improve the look and feel of Downtown Bay Minette. -Plans are in place to launch a Discover North Baldwin campaign in late Autumn. This will include the development of a website, facebook page, links in with other tourism bodies and promotional platforms. -Have added North Baldwin tourist attractions to the National Geographic Gulf States GeoTourism Mapguide. -Have successfully supported a business owner to choose Bay Minette over Foley as a location to open their business and to find a location to open their café downtown. -Currently working with an individual interested in opening a business downtown. -Have implemented the Bay Minette in Bloom flower sponsorship campaign with aim to connect the business community and the community at large with the revitalization of the city. -Working in partnership with the City and Arts Council to improve the look of resources (e.g. vacant buildings, etc.) -Have implemented the American Heart Association Walking Path and Art Trail. -Working with City to designate and promote historic districts. 4
