1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Reports to Role Summary Te Awhina Acute Mental Health Unit Day Activities Coordinator Clinical Nurse Manager Te Awhina Your position works principally within the department or service specified above, however you may be required to undertake duties in other areas of the organisation which promote the efficient and effective operation of Whanganui District Health Board which reasonably fall within the general parameters of this position. Purpose of the Position To organise, design, coordinate and implement a range of service user/tangata whaiora centred recovery based activity programmes; the aim of which is to facilitate the recovery back to the community through support and development of purposeful meaningful activity Direct Reports NIL Delegated Authorities Financial: Delegated management of resources relating to provision of therapy groups within the Day Services Staff: Your position provides oversight to other staff in the Day Services Including health care assistants and intern occupational therapists Registration Scope of Practice You must be able to demonstrate that you are registered with the appropriate New Zealand regulatory authority and that your scope of practice enables you to undertake the duties of this position.

3 Role responsibility :. This role is primarily accountable for: Managing the day services including coordinating therapy and managing associated required resources A set of performance indicators will be agreed annually between your manager and yourself reflecting applicable strategic and operational requirements Key Performance indicators Key Accountabilities Tasks (How you achieve) Performance Indicators.(How you will be measured) Provide activities to service users/tangata whaiora Carry out activity based programmes that support recovery and return to optimal functioning of service users/tangata whaiora Adapt programmes as required to meet service user/tangata whaiora needs Document service user/tangata whaiora attendance and participation in activity programme Undertake ongoing risk assessment of service users/tangata whaiora Ensure safe clinical documentation Provide support and information to service users/tangata whaiora as needed Support service users/tangata whaiora use of the sensory room Manage budget and resource requirements to facilitate the activity programmes Maintain a safe environment for self and others Service user/tangata whaiora feedback Provided activities are in accordance with the Operational Policy for Te Awhina and in line with national provision Activities are carried out based on the service user/tangata whaiora needs and identified in their individual care plan Accurate notes are recorded in the appropriate electronic patient management system Service users/tangata whaiora have the necessary leave papers if they are on the Mental Health Act to participate in any programmes off the unit Survey and evaluation occurs to inform improvement Any environmental issues of concern are raised to the clinical nurse manager All potentially dangerous equipment and tools are stored safely and used under direct supervision
4 Interpersonal relationships Establishes and maintains therapeutic interpersonal relationships with the service user/tangata whaiora and their family/whanau Communicates effectively with service users/tangata whaiora familv/whanau and members of the whole health care team Collaborates and supports and participates with colleagues and members of the whole health care team to deliver appropriate care, including peer support workers and Community Mental Health and Addictions Services (CMH&AS) staff Participates in ongoing professional and education development appropriate to role Contributes to the continuous improvement of the service Service user/tangata whaiora and family/whanau feedback Colleagues feedback Participates and provides evidence in formal performance appraisal session yearly Professional development Attends staff development sessions as appropriate Attends organisational and unit mandatory training within agreed timeframes Consistently and appropriately responds to feedback on job performance Wellbeing, Health Comply with all safe work Completed the WDHB health and and Safety procedures, policies and safety orientation course and updates instructions Attendance at workplace safety Report all incidents hazards meetings (indicated by minutes). and injuries to supervisors Demonstrated by signed training in a timely manner records Actively participate in the Active involvement in, and completion ongoing development of of, rehabilitation programmes as safe workplace practices in required Whanganui District Health Timely, full and accurate completion Board of accident and hazard forms if and when required My capabilities and personal qualities: To be effective in this role it is expected that you will have the following capabilities; An appropriate tertiary qualification (Preference will be given to a therapies related qualification such as Occupational Therapy) and post graduate qualification Therapy program delivery and management work experience Competency in the use of computer software and other required technologies Proactively investigates new perspectives, approaches, and behaviors, and takes steps to evaluate and improve performance

Physical Attributes: We will make all reasonable efforts to provide a safe and healthy work place for all, including persons with disability. Ability to participate in Safe Practice Effective Communication (SPEC) activities Must be able to function in rapidly changing and demanding conditions when required. Hearing and speech sufficient to communicate clearly with patients and co-workers, monitor patient status and equipment, recognise impending emergencies relating to patients and equipment and hear emergency alarm. Ability to wear face masks and rubber gloves for protection against infectious disease. Absence of a health condition which could increase appointee's susceptibility if exposed to infections more frequently than usual Skin condition should allow frequent contact with water, soap/disinfectant soap, chemicals and latex rubber. Skin should not be fissured, scaly, cracked on hands, forearms, face or neck. The appointee must not have infection or colonisation with MRSA. The appointee must not have a health condition that will put others at risk. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a variety of specialised equipment used within wards/departments at Wanganui Hospital as required, including syringes, together with safe administration of drugs and use of clerical items including personal computers. A high degree of physically capacity is required as the work is physically demanding, involving standing, walking, sitting, stretching, twisting bending and lifting/moving weights up to and above 15 kilograms frequently. (Stature extremes may increase hazard of shared activities). A high degree of mental concentration is required. Ability to move about and undertake necessary duties (sometimes in restricted spaces) in wards / departments / community settings within Whanganui District Health Board. Visual ability sufficient to read, write/record, operate equipment, safely administer medications, monitor equipment and patient status enabling accurate performance of essential job duties.
