1 Date: December 2016 Job Title : Senior Medical Officer Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department : Women s Health Child Women and Family Service Location : North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals Reporting To : Clinical Directors Obstetrics and Gynaecology Operations Manager Women s Health Direct Reports : Nil Functional Relationships with : Internal Medical Staff Management Staff Nursing and Midwifery staff Support Services External Patients/clients, relatives, care givers and whanau General Practitioners Medical Council Purpose : To provide a high standard of clinical practice in the management of Obstetrics and Gynaecological care to the women of Waitemata region. Undertakes clinical duties in the care of patients as per contract of employment Keeps up to date with healthcare trends and medical research. Maintains updated knowledge and skill of medical practices and trends in health management. Outpatients and other clinics Ward rounds and ward work Operating lists Reading and responding to patient referral letters Attendance at multi disciplinary meetings, case conferences and reviews as required Research and study related to the treatment of a specific patient Provision of medical reports to police, ACC, coroner etc Review current processes and practice to develop creative solutions to meet the future needs of the organisation and the population it serves. 2 Identifies personal and professional development requirements through ongoing appraisal. Contributes to the ongoing development of Waitemata DHB by leading, promoting and demonstrating the vision and values of the organisation. Clinical audit and peer review programmes are in place and all documentation is consistent with policies. Provides open channel of communication and feedback regarding self and peer performance. Provides direct clinical supervision to junior medical staff working in Women s Health To establish a strong collegial relationship with other services within the Auckland region and outside the region. Builds and maintains a broad network of contacts and relationships at all levels Health industry meetings, forums and conferences are attended and relationships established with a broad range of health contacts. Networks for support are sought and communication channels are established between Waitemata DHB and external organisations. Identifies areas for overall improvement for the service. Works with the Clinical Directors for Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Operations Manager in the development of quality initiatives for the service ensuring a quality improvement programme is implemented. Actively promotes and implements change as required to achieve overall organisational goals Demonstrates a flexibility and willingness to adapt to new requirements of the organisation. Supports change and quality improvement, gaining buy-in and support from staff at all levels through effective planning and full communication of the process. Statutory and Treaty of Waitangi obligations Ensures the professional and political integrity of WDHB by carrying out all functions in compliance of the Treaty of Waitangi and by demonstrating a serious commitment to keeping the treaty alive.
