2 [1] Effectively manage systems, processes and resources that will assist the nursing staff to meet the needs of the service user / tangata whaiora in an efficient and cost-effective manner Management of nursing care to achieve patient focused care to the highest professional standard possible Leads planning and management of people, the inpatient unit, systems, processes and resources to ensure that service and service user needs are met within allocated resources in an efficient and effective manner. Referrals, admissions and discharges are managed efficiently and effectively. Caseloads are managed effectively Schedules workforce and resources to deliver a responsive and efficient service 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. Service delivery is monitored to ensure that nursing care is planned and delivered to achieve identified outcomes. Nursing workload is monitored and staff encouraged to discuss workload management Proactively communicates across the adult mental health teams throughout the day to ensure efficient and effective admission and discharge planning. Situational Awareness - knows what is happening across the whole specialty monitoring and assessing waitlists to proactively plan for admissions. Team Management / Clinical Leadership Establishes and reviews appropriate staffing profiles for nursing and support staff. Ensures an annual workforce plan is developed and regularly monitored for the unit. Identifies and implements strategies to recruit and retain staff Manages staff recruitment, induction, professional development, feedback, PDRP and retention. Ensure staff are employed with the skills and attitudes that align with the Mental Health competencies and the 7 Real Skills. Initiates, develops and implements flexible workforce models that are responsive to the changing needs of patients and staff Knows where to access and how to follow and implement HR policies, processes and guidelines. Sets up and applies employment contracts consistently Ensures that all staff have annual appraisal, development plan, coaching and feedback Coordinates resources present [right people/skill mix in the right place/roster] with staff doing the right things [standards & supervision], at the right time [monitoring] to achieve the right outcome. Coordinates day to day staffing and resources; is involved in assessing changing patient needs and putting strategies and resources in place to meet those needs.
