Come and bring the kids on Saturday, March 20th for a morning of fun and refreshments. The Easter Bunny will be hopping around for photos with the kids. Check-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. You must be a paid member of the Homeowners Association to participate. if you have not yet sent in your dues, you can complete and mail the form in this newsletter. The hunt will begin at 10:00 a.m. The age groups for the hunt and coloring contest are: Group 1 Age: 0-4 Group 2 Age: 5-7 Group 3 Age: 8-12 The Easter Coloring Contest pictures are available on the website. Print as many copies as you need ( There are 3 pictures, one for each age group. Submit your creative and beautifully colored pictures to the judges during check-in at the Easter Egg hunt. Prizes will be awarded shortly after the Egg Hunt finishes. Membership Update As February 28th, we have received annual dues and membership forms from 355 of the 760 homes served by the Homeowners Association. THANK YOU! We are hoping for 100% participation this year. If you did not receive your annual dues form, you can complete and mail the copy inside. The Stonehedge Sign Fund reached its fundraising goal of $30,000 at the end of January Thank you to all those who contributed to the new signs see contributors list printed inside this newsletter. Coyote Update In an effort to track the activity of coyotes in Wheaton s residential areas, the City s website has a new section for residents to report coyote sightings. If you see a coyote in Wheaton, simply log on to and fill in the requested information. In the report, be sure to provide the location and time of the sighting. Doing so will help the Wheaton Police Department track coyote activities throughout the city. While the spring market is considered the best season for selling a home, existing inventory has continued to decline during the past few months and the current market is surprisingly active. If you plan on selling a home this spring, you might move your timeframe up. Many buyers are already reviewing the existing inventory and are ready to purchase soon. This is especially true for buyers who want to take advantage of the extended tax credits for home buyers. As part of its plan to stimulate the U.S. housing market and address the economic challenges facing our nation, Congress has passed new legislation that extends the First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit of up to $8,000 to first-time home buyers until April 30, In addition, this new legislation expands the credit to grant up to $6,500 credit to current home owners purchasing a new or existing home until April 30, As a seller, you may just capture this activity before the competition increases. Normally inventory rises significantly between mid February and June. Call me for a market analysis and information about a successful selling strategy. If you plan on buying, it s important to start your search as soon as possible so that you can complete your search in time to close by April 30, Prices have come down significantly in the past year and mortgage rates may not remain as favorable for much longer. 3 Page 3 Volume 11 Issue 1 Book Exchange? For the many avid readers in the Stonehedge subdivision we are considering having a one-day book exchange. This event would be held at the Community Center. For each book you bring to the exchange you receive an exchange coupon to buy a book. Both adult and children s book sections would be available. Job Bank Many families in our subdivision have lost jobs during this difficult economic time. We would like to place a Job Bank section on our website that lists job openings to assist our friends and neighbors. 4 Ask Glenn... Q: I basically like the layout of my kitchen, and the cabinets are sound, but everyone tells me it s going to cost $100,000 to update to a more modern look. Do I really have to tear everything out and start over? A: If you already have a layout that works for you, and the cabinetry is solid, there are many things you can do between living with them as is, and spending those kinds of dollars. One method of changing the look with minimal disruption is to re-door the cabinets. This works well for homeowners who like to color and wood species of their cabinets, but would like a more updated door style. You select the new doors and drawer fronts, and they are custom stained and finished to blend into the current color of the framework. This achieves a new look that can be installed in one day. A: In this case, a refacing could solve the situation. The doors and drawer fronts are replaced in a wood type, stain, and style of your choosing. Then the cabinet frames are covered in the same material. These installations typically take 3-4 days, and when finished are indistinguishable from new cabinetry. Q: Are there other updates we can have done? A: Yes, everything from new countertops to changing some of the cabinets, such as removing a planning desk to add a full cabinet. Small changes can make dramatic differences without great expense. Q: I m not too fond of the dark oak cabinets I now have. What can be done with them? 5 Wynscape Nursing Home Volunteering and Donations Would you like to help with the WYNSCAPE nursing facility at the corner of Manchester and County Farm Road? Wynscape does not have the number of volunteers that other nursing homes seem to have. Most people at Wynscape have very few, if any visitors. Your help, time or donations, will be greatly appreciated by the people living there. As a volunteer there every Tuesday I know how much a smile can make a difference. Here are some ways you can help: Donate time. Call Jenny, the activities coordinator Donate items. They have a crazy auction once a month and love things like sweaters, purses, jewelry, perfume, and blankets. They seem to get cold. Care products you just have too many of, word search books, LARGE clothing, size 18 or above, that is LIKE NEW, and children's large piece jigsaw puzzles that have 60 pieces or less. Donate magazines. They like ladies magazines the best. Don't throw away what you have even if they are a few months old. Drop any donations off at KATE HAEGER'S Middleton Court and she will deliver. Scout troops are welcome to help at parties or perform for them.
