2 Bennett PTSA Donation Guide Dollars and Volunteer Hours ~ Community Events $47,000 ~ 25% of our budget There are many events and activities that we would not be able to offer without a strong base of donors and volunteers: Family Science Night Art Night Book Fair Talent Show After/Before-school activities like robotics, chess, and more $125 Curriculum Enhancement $61,000 ~ 32% of our budget We have a dedicated committee of representatives from each grade that work with the school to select and organize: Field trips In-class visitors Assemblies Our 2015 Budget is $190,000 Current Enrollment ~ 450 students Collectively we spend over 10,000 As of hours volunteering Planning and Execution 1,500 volunteer hours These types of volunteer hours are precious and vital. Without people signing up to chair committees and serve as officers, none of the value that we provide would ever reach our students. With great technology and a supportive culture, volunteering to chair an event is something that everyone can do. In-School Support: 4,800 volunteer hours Our students benefit greatly from parent volunteers in the classroom. The help that teachers request ranges from: Preparing supplies for lessons Instructional Support $82,000 ~ 43% of our budget Working with our Principal, through a restricted donation to the Bellevue School District, the Bennett PTSA secures added staff to help out in: Reading Literacy Math Playground safety Event Support/ Show $30k Up and Do 3,700 volunteer hours This is the type of volunteering that everyone can do. Most events need assistance with setup and cleanup or an enthusiastic parent to show up and monitor an activity (usually with no experience or training required): 22Hrs Remember: we will not be holding per student an auction Family this Science year. 4 Q: What is the Bennett Read A Thon? A: The Read A Thon is the second major Bennett PTSA fundraiser of the school year. We will not be doing an auction this year we are doing this event in place of the auction. It will work similarly to the Walk A Thon that we had in the Fall, except we will be reading instead of walking. Students will set a reading goal and gather sponsors to pledge money. Students will read from Monday, January 11 to Monday, January 18, and turn in pledge forms, money, and Reading Logs by Monday, February 1. Please turn in all Read a Thon forms and money to your student s teacher. Q: What can students win? A: We have some seriously awesome prizes for this event. Top 2 Overall Fundraisers (goes to the 2 students who raised most money): A Kindle e reader! Top Fundraiser in Each Grade: Signed book from Ms. Johnson, to be personally selected for the student. Top Fundraiser in Each Class: Author Lunch! Each winner in this category will attend a special author lunch arranged by our librarian, Ms. Johnson. Top Minutes Read Overall: An Evening book reading with our librarian, Ms. Johnson, at a mutually agreed upon location. Top Minutes Read in Each Grade: Signed book from Ms. Johnson, to be personally selected for the student. Top Minutes Read in Each Class: Extra Library check out time. 100% Class Participation Prize: Classrooms that have 100% participation in the Read A Thon will earn an Extra Recess! Every class can win an Extra Recess! s can also earn a $25 Starbucks gift card! School Fundraising Goal Met: If we raise our goal of $30,000 as a school, then Mr. Staight and Ms. Leaver will dress up as book characters for a day! Awesome Book Mark: Each student who participates will earn one! Q: How do students participate to win an Extra Recess? A: In order to participate, the student needs to turn in a reading log by February 1 st. Of course, this is a fundraiser, so a donation is requested (although not required for this prize). Q: What counts as reading for this event? Books Magazines Newspapers Audiobooks Online reading (Raz kids, etc.) Materials in languages other than English Kids reading to parents or parents reading to kids Bennett siblings or friends reading to each other counts for both kids! Think of something not listed? If your teacher would consider it reading, then it counts!

5 Q: Where are good places to find reading materials? A: Here are a few suggestions: Bennett Library: Ms. Johnson will allow all students to check out one extra book the week before the Read A Thon. King County Library: There are dozens of KCLS branches you can visit! The closest libraries to Bennett are Crossroads Library (inside the mall) and Lake Hills Library. You can also visit the Downtown Bellevue branch at th Ave. NE or get a complete list of locations by visiting Internet: Every student at Bennett has access to many ebooks and reading databases through our Bennett Library Catalog, as well as through our new partnership with KCLS check with your teacher or Ms. Johnson if you cannot find your list of login/passwords. Q: Where do students find sponsors? A: Students can request donations from friends, family members, and neighbors. All donations are 100% tax deductible, and are eligible for corporate matching. Also on the Bennett PTSA website is a sheet of donation receipts for you to give to your sponsors for their records. Students should NOT ask strangers for donations we want everyone to stay safe! Q: My employer will match my donation what is the process? A: Contact your employer's HR Department and ask if they participate in corporate matching. If they have an online matching process, please use it and specify RICHARD BENNETT PTSA as the recipient. Please request your matching promptly. If you have questions about the matching process, please contact ptsa_fundraising@schoolbennett.org. Q: How much money should I try to raise for the Read A Thon? A: Our recommended donation is $125 per student. 100% of the proceeds raised from the Read A Thon go towards our students through programs such as Curriculum Enhancement and Classroom Aides. Every dollar raised benefits our children! This Read A Thon is very important! Q: Can I donate online? A: Yes! You can donate online at ptsa.org, or you can submit checks made payable to the Richard Bennett Elementary PTSA. The PTSA cannot accept cash. Q: I have more questions. How do I get them answered?
