1 VIDEO DIVISIONS ENTRY REGISTRATION: Student Showcase accepts online entries ONLY. There are no hard copies of entry forms for Student Showcase. Instructors will register their students and print tags for their entries online at Student Showcase page. Student information required: full name, , phone number, city and zip code. Group and Special Education Projects must be entered in designated Divisions. ENTRY LABELING: All group projects must have a designated leader. The leader name will be used on the entry tag. a list of participating student information to studentshowcase@sdfair.com. Include WEN number. Tags for each entry will be printed by instructor on standard white bond paper. Both the movie/video and case must be marked with: pre-printed tag; title; running time; group leader name. Submit entries in a 9 x12 manila envelope with student name, school, instructor and division written on the outside of the envelope. Put Entry Tag in upper right corner of the 9 x12 envelope. Print student name and school on each USB flash drive. Please print clearly. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, May 5, 11:59 PM (PST) Online registration: Entries must be submitted at by the deadline. No exceptions! Online entries will receive an confirmation. Technical support will not be available after 7:00pm on the entry deadline date. LIMIT OF ENTRIES: A total of 2 individual entries per student in all Divisions combined in Student Showcase. In addition to 2 individual entries, students may participate in group projects. All Video Divisions will be submitted as Group Projects ( ). All Animation & Motion Graphics will be submitted as Individual Projects ( ). PROCESSING FEES: Online entries are paid by credit card only. Processing fees are non-refundable. Processing fee is $3.00 per entry. Group project are $10.00 (2 or more students). Videos are considered group projects. ELIGIBILITY: Student projects made in schools in San Diego County, grades 7 through 12, Community Colleges, ROP programs or Adult Education under the supervision of an instructor may be entered. Projects must have been finished during the 12-month period preceding the Fair. See Creative Youth Department for individuals or club organizations not under the instruction of a teacher for ages See Best of K-6 Schools for classroom projects in K-6th grades. CLASS DESCRIPTION FOR MOVIE/VIDEO DIVISIONS: Verification of class entered is the responsibility of the instructor submitting the entry form. Each Division will be judged by class level. Class Middle Schools Grades Best of Show & Division Class High Schools Grades Best of Show & Division Class Community College/ROP/Adult Education - Best of Show & Division PRESENTATION: Programs must be submitted on a USB flash drive. Use the following file formats: Applecompatible QuickTime, M4V, or Window Media Player Formatted File. Enter duplicate copy of original video on the same flash drive. Please submit a write-up to include: Objective of the Content; Target Audience; Storyline. This is not part of the Judging Criteria. Entry must include a frame capture for display. RELEASES: Exhibitors must secure/have rights to all music, sound effects, photos, or video footage used in their production. Exhibitors must also secure a location permit/release. Content considered public domain is acceptable, but must have ability to authenticate. JUDGING: Danish System of Judging will be used. See each individual section for judging criteria.

2 SUITABILITY: Projects must be in good taste and suitable for family viewing as determined by the Fair management. DELIVERY OF ENTRIES: Tuesday, May 16, Noon 7:00pm or Wednesday, May 17, Noon 7:00pm. Projects must be hand-delivered to the Student Showcase Exhibit on the first floor of the West Grandstand area with entry tags attached. PICK-UP OF ENTRIES: All exhibits must be picked up at the Student Showcase exhibit, first floor of the West Grandstand, on Friday, July 7 noon - 8pm. Pick-up instructions will be handed out at delivery. Any exhibit not picked up at this time becomes the property of the Fair and will be disposed of promptly. Exhibits MAY NOT be withdrawn before the close of the Fair. VIDEO JUDGING CRITERIA: Videos will be evaluated on the basis of their relevance to the themes, content, subject matter, communication, strategies and the A/V quality. The content of the video/movies should be in accordance to the UAE laws and should not be offensive to any person, region, or religion. All videos must adhere to PG13 Rating guidelines. All Video Divisions will be submitted as Group Projects ( ) Division 4900-DOCUMENTARY Nonfictional video intended to document some aspect of reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction or maintaining a historical record. (Not to exceed 30 minutes). Division 4901-FAIR THEME - WHERE THE WEST IS FUN - Videos of any activities reflecting the theme Where the West is Fun. May be any artistic style, realistic or creative interpretation. Division 4902-MUSIC VIDEO Videos will be judged on caliber of music (any genre), visual support or enhancement of the music, creativity, originality and ability to capture the viewer s attention and imagination. (Not to exceed 10 minutes). Division 4903-NEWS/INVESTIGATING REPORTING The reporting through one s own initiative and work product, of matters of importance to readers, viewers or listeners. (Maximum 3 minutes in length). Division 4904-PSA PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS/COMMERCIALS This category is all about making people take action. Whether you want people to conserve water or stop smoking, make sure you tell them how they can act to fix the problem. (Must be 30 seconds-5 minutes). Division 4905-SHORT FILMS This category consists of movies that contain elements of comedy, drama, experimental, sci-fi or others. (Not to exceed 10 minutes). Division 4906-ACTION SPORTS Any video shot or containing handheld or mounted cameras that explore action sports. Diving, motorcycle riding, skateboarding, surfing are just a few. All material must be original and copyright free. (Not to exceed 10 minutes). NEW! Division 4907-THE MANNEQUIN CHALLENGE Be a part of the The Mannequin Challenge! The video will be judged on creativity, quality, and overall interest of the viewer. (Not to exceed 1 minute in length). You may choose your subject matter and you are also encouraged to work with the Fair theme of Where the West is Fun.

3 ANIMATION/MOTION GRAPHICS JUDGING CRITERIA: Overall Presentation, 15 pts; Thematic Harmony, 15 pts; Creativity within the presentation (interface/navigation), 10 pts; Achievement of Objectives, 10 pts. Required: Submit one 8 x10 hardcopy color print of title page or frame for display with each entry. 4 Student Showcase Entry Tag Instructions Print Your Own Tags: After entries have been submitted, you will prompted to print tags for your students. These entry tags must be attached to each entry before delivery to Student Showcase. Entry Tags must be securely attached to lower right - hand corner of entry or bottom of the base for free - standing entries. View sample for clarification. Sample: Tape tag to back of work with Name Visible from the front. Do not tape to front of project. Do not put tag on the front surface of the matte board. Tag Project Entry Tag Entry Tag Instructions: If entry tag was not printed go back to for button- click here for tags to print student s tags. You must have your username and password to access the system. IN addition to the ENTRY TAG, please also label each entry. The label is used to notify students of any awards received and also to identify the piece in the event the tag should fall off. Label Identification: Use this label to place at the back of your entry project for notification of awards. This label must be filled out with (student name, school name, teacher name & student ); as a reference in case the entry tag is missing or falls off. Use the.pdf to fill in the student information and print them on standard Avery Shipping label 2 x 4 ; to be placed at the back of the entry project.
