2 Details of Chapters activities since last report 1. We have organized a seminar series by all the student members of our chapter in 5 th July, All the student chapter members have delivered the talks on their respective research fields for research interaction and discussions. 3 Ambika Nautiyal Paul Kumar IIT Madras Student chapter seminar program held at IIT Madras on 5th July We have organized a Industrial tour to Prisms India Private Ltd., Pondicherry, with all the student chapter members on 14th July, It was a great opportunity for our chapter members and industrialists to interact, exchange ideas and discuss the contemporary research topics.

4 IIT Madras SPIE student Chapter Members along with Prof. C. Vijayan, Vice President of SPIE India Chapter visit to Prisms India Private Limited, Pondicherry on 14 th July Our chapter vice-president Ms. Pushpa Ann Kurian attended the conference Optics & Photonics 2007, San Diego, CA in August 2007 for SPIE Student Chapter Annual Meeting. Ms. Kurian has also presented the chapter activities during last one year as well as a research paper. 4. An open house in the area of Optics and Photonics was organized under Shaastra program from 4 th to 6 th October 2007 for college students. 5. Ms. Nibeditha Ram, member of SPIE, attended and presented a paper at National laser symposium (NLS-2007) International conference held at M.S.University of Baroda, Vadodara, and Gujarath during 14 th to 20 th December 2007 with the financial support from the chapter. Awards Mr. Paul Kumar Upputuri and Dr. Basanta Bhaduri, Student chapter members were award 'Certificate of Merit' prize for the paper on 'Two wavelength microscopic TV interferometric system for surface profiling' presented at 9th INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MEASUREMENT & QUALITY CONTROL (9th ISMQC) November 21-24, 2007, IIT Madras. India.

5 Details of Planned activities for the future 1. Seminar talks by the members of the chapter will be continued.. 2. One day workshop for research scholars from different parts of the country working in the area of optics. 3. We are going to invite experts in the field of Optics & Photonics for invited talks and to interact with the students under visiting lecture program.
