3 Our chapter has been active this past year in organizing seminars, workshops, and attending conferences abroad. We are summarizing in this report the main activities that we were involved in, the last year. 1. Outreach & Education Activities: The Optics and Photonics Tunisia student chapter organized a scientific school and performed hands on activities, reaching around 100 students. Activity 1: Presenting the OPTSC in Hackfest 2016: Smart Tunisia. May 7 st to 8 th 2016: The event took place in El Ghazala Technopark, Ariana between the 7 th and 8 th of May. The event contained a workshop and 12 hours Catch The Flag (CTF) competition. The OPTSC members proposed 3 tasks on optics and mathematics for the competitors. More than 100 students from different engineering school attended the event. Activity 2: Organizing Physics light lab. September 1 st to 4 th 2016: "Physics' light lab" was part of Interference International Light Art Project which was held in Medina of Tunis. Many people attended this event. 3

4 Activity 3: Presenting the OPTSC in Journée Portes Ouvertes. May 20 th 2015: We participate in Journée Portes Ouvertes with different organizations and national scientific societies at Sup com. 4

5 2. Conferences & Workshops: Activity 4: Organizing the spring school Emergent wireless and optical communication systems. April 21 st -23 rd 2017: We organized the spring school Emergent Wireless and Optical Communication Systems (WIROPT COM). This school will take place at Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia from 21 st to 23 rd April The WIROPT COM school consists of lectures given by experts in the fields of wireless and optical systems from both industry and academia. It also includes poster presentations by participating Ph.D. students. The program covers fundamental, advanced and application oriented topics in communications. It will provide the attendees a comprehensive overview of emerging technologies and an opportunity to learn about issues affecting various aspects of wireless, optical systems, and also an opportunity to interact with each other. The WIROPT COM school is important for everyone in learning optical and photonic devices characterization and optical communication systems used in building solutions and architectures for complex ultra-broadband networks, especially for the future Internet. The school is intended for graduate students and researchers as well as design engineers, and product managers at industry. 7 Activity 5: Attending SPIE Student Leadership Meeting in San Diego August 27 rd -September 1 st 2016: OPTSC president Ameni Ben Khalifa attended the SPIE leadership in San Diego California on the 27 rd of August She presented also research papers on the Optics and Photonics conference. 7

8 Future Activities: In 2017, we are aiming to organize the following activities: May 2017: Hands on activity in El Ghazala secondary school. September 2017: we aim to organize a Summer school. We aim to invite graduate students and researchers in optical communication systems. The school consists of lectures given by experts in the field of optical systems from both industry and academia. It also includes poster and oral presentations by participating Ph.D. Students. November 2017: Hands on activity in Mahdia secondary school. OPTSC Financial Information 1. Expended funds 350 TND: Dinner and coffee break for the OPTSC members in the Medina for 4 nights. 400 TND: Social program in the Emergent wireless and optical communication systems. 350 TND: Poster printing and flyers for the events. 8
