Professor Yongtian Wang, SPIE 2008 new fellow, gave us a report on optical instrumentation and image processing. (11 March, BIT, China) members of our Chapter visited the Beijing Hamamatsu Photonics Technology Co., Ltd. and find out the production development flow. (17 April, Beijing, China) 3. We organized a student chapter meeting in our school, exchanges with OSA student chapter members and COS, CIS student members. Invited 3

4 Professor Liwei Zhou, the ademician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the Chief Scientist of BIT to give us scientific report about optics, invited Professor Guoqiang Ni, the general secretary of The Chinese Optical Society to give us a report about Image Fusion. (12 June, 2008.BIT, China.) 4. With the help of the Graduate School of BIT, we invited Dr. Witold Pedrycz, the Editor in Chief of Information Sciences of ELSVIER to give us a report on The Craft of Scientific Writing. (23 July, BIT, China) 5. The secretary of BIT SPIE Student Club Mr. Ming Liu attended the Optics & Photonics 2008 conference and shared his new research about MEMS based IR Systems with other researchers. (9 14 August, San Diego, California, USA) 6. Three doctoral student members of our chapter attended the Optics & Photonics conference Sponsored by the China Ordnance Society and gave reports about their researches. (16 21 October, YiChang, China) 7. Four members of our Chapter attended the Asia Pacific Optical Communications (APOC) conference 2008 and shared their scientific researches. (26 30 October, Hangzhou China) 8. Six doctoral student members attended the International Conference of Optical Instrument and Technology (OIT 2008) and gave reports on their researches. Organized nine chapter members as the volunteer serviced on the conference. Organized all the members and other 12 graduate students of the School of Optoelectronics BIT attended the 19th International conference and Fair for Measurement Instrumentation and 4

5 Automation (MICONEX 2008). (16 19 November, Beijing, China) 9. Doctoral student member Miss Yinan Chen won the 2008 CASC Scholarship of BIT. (17 November, BIT, China) 10. Our Club organized all the members and other 14 graduate students of the School of Optoelectronics BIT attended the 13th International Lasers Opto electronics and Photonics Exhibition (ILOPE). The exhibition was organized by COEMA and CIEC and supported by CCPIT and the Ministry of Information Industry. (25 27 November, Beijing, China) 11. Organized 21 members of our chapter and other 16 graduate students of the School of Optoelectronics BIT attended the Public safe products fair of Chinese International Community of (9 12 December, Beijing, China) 12. Hold the Doctoral Forum of Information Science and Technology, organized by School of Information Science and Technology (SIST) BIT and SPIE Beijing Institute of Technology Club. (19 21 December, BeiJing, China) 13. Chapter advisor Prof. Yuejin Zhao and chapter president Mr. Liquan Dong attended the committee extended meeting organized by the Opto Electronic Mechanical Technology & System Integration Chapter, CIS and visited the optical laboratory of Harbin Engineering University. (1 3 January, Harbin, China) 14. New Chapter officer election holed on the end of the past semester. (16 January, BIT, China) 15. Carrying out of Chapter meetings and scientific seminars. This is the best way for students to gain teaching experience. 5

6 Future Activities 1. Strengthen the organization publicity, Let more students who major in Optics & Photonics know and join SPIE China Students chapter. 2. Attending Conference is a good way for new students to gain information; we will sport our members to attend the following SPIE organized or sponsored conference: ISPDI 2009 (17 19 June, Beijing, China), SPIE Optics + Photonics (2 6 August, San Diego, USA), OIT 2009 (19 22 October, Shanghai, China), MIPPR 2009 (30 October 1 November, Yichang, China), AOE APOC 2009 (4 6 November, Shanghai, China), and so on. 3. Attending new products exhibition about optics and related technology can help students to get the newest information; we will continue organization of such events in a future. 4. We are going to invite renowned persons in the field of optics and photonics to deliver talks in his/her field of research. 5. Continue to visiting local companies to encourage internship, locate jobs for club members, and get in touch with latest advances in industry developments. 6. Maintain close relations, interchange experience and plan common activities with other SPIE chapters around the world. 6
