1 SCHOLARSHIP LIST REVISED 4/20/2018 Information is available in the Guidance Scholarship file The Horatio Alger Association Scholarship provides assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarship criteria also include high school graduation in spring or summer of 2018, commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor s degree and United States citizenship. File Number 102 WACE National Co-op Scholarship Program offers merit scholarships to students who are admitted to one of these partner institutions: Clarkson University, State University of New York at Oswego, University of Cincinnati, Johnson & Wales University, University of Massachusetts Lowell, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Toledo, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Merrimack College, Drexel University. Information is available in guidance. Must be postmarked no later than February 15, File Number 82 Presidential Spirit of Community Awards recognize high school youth volunteers. State Honorees will receive an award of $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C. in late April. Ten State Honorees will be named America s top youth volunteers and will receive $5, 000 awards. More information is available in guidance. Deadline to complete application, student and parent, agreement and deliver certification page with instructions to certifier is November 7, File Number 3 The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify students who will make significant contributions to society. Each year 20 or more students are designated Ron Brown Scholars and receive financial wards annual for four years. To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, Black/African American and current high school seniors at the time of their application. File Number 10 The Boston University Trustee Scholarship Competition where Scholars are selected from high schools around the world, are typically in the top ten percent of their class and are leaders in their schools and communities. The Trustee Scholarship covers full undergraduate tuition plus orientation and mandatory undergraduate student fees for four years. File Number 80 Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship Kinderhook Lodge 2530 awards scholarships to high school seniors based on Scholarship, Leadership, and Financial need. 2 AXA Achievement Scholarship AXA Achievers share these qualities: Ambition and drive, Determination to set and reach goals, Respect for self, family and community, Ability to succeed in college. File Number 83 The Sean Patrick French Love of Running Scholarship for seniors who participated in Varsity Cross Country and/or Track & Field for at least 2 years. Application must be done online. DEADLINE is December 1, File Number 14 The Sean Patrick French Section II XC Good Sportsmanship Scholarship is for two high school seniors who have been selected by NYSPHSAA Section II Cross Country Coaches as Good Sportsmanship Award Winners. DEADLINE is December 1, File Number Excellence in Nursing Scholarship Essay Contest awarded by Hudson Valley Magazine to a motivated high school senior who plans to pursue a career in nursing. File Number 97 The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program awards roughly 20 college-bound students who excel in leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 renewable scholarships up to $40,000 total per recipient. More information is available in guidance. Deadline: January 4, File Number 81 The Profile in Courage Essay Contest : In Profiles in Courage, John F. Kennedy recounted the stories of eight U.S. senators who risked their careers to do what was right for the nation. These leaders demonstrated political courage by taking a stand for the public good in spite of pressure by interest groups, their political party, or even their constituents. The Profile in Courage Essay Contest challenges students to write an original and creative essay that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage. The maximum word count is 1,000 with a minimum of 700, not including citations and bibliography. Use at least five varied sources such as government documents, letters, newspaper articles, books, and/or personal interviews. All submissions must adhere to contest requirements. File Number 2 Scholarships continued The Ned Carter Scholarship offered by the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York to NYS High School Seniors graduating in June of Student MUST be related to or be a Firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of NYS and MUST reside in NYS. Applicant should be pursuing a career in community service-related areas of endeavor at a 2 or 4 year college. Information and applications available in guidance. 3 FASNY Gerald J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship is for applicant whose parent/legal guardian is a member in good standing with FASNY(Firemen s Association of the State of New York); must be a senior in high school who is enrolled in the fall 2018 school year at an accredited 2-4 year institution of higher learning; is a current junior firefighter, explorer Scout or a RAM volunteer; a volunteer firefighter is a volunteer fire department or a volunteer with an EMS agency; and has demonstrated a commitment to volunteer service and to the community. Czajkowski, Jr. Memorial Scholarship awarded to a graduating member of the football team who brings a crucial, intangible value to the team and his teammates. Deadline to guidance is Friday, April 30, File Number 112 The Martin Tuczinski Community Leadership Award is given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership, an interest in government, patriotism, and community service. Deadline to guidance is April 13, File Number 31 Meghan Kraham Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female senior (or more) who are committed to pursuing a post-secondary education. The recipients shall be students who, like Meghan Kraham, engaged in community service, strong and positive school spirit through extracurricular school activities, and conducted themselves with a high moral code and serve as a good role model for other students. Application in guidance; deadline to guidance is MAY 1, 2018.File Number 34 The Heidi Severance Award to a senior planning to attend Hudson Valley Community College and enter the field of Human Services. Application available in guidance. Deadline to guidance APRIL 13, File Number 30 Dr. Richard B. Dodge Memorial Scholarship - Dr. Dodge was a fun-loving Chatham kid who, though smart, few expected to become an emergency room doctor. However, he was a man with a plan and after graduating from medical school was determined to move back to Chatham to fulfill his dream of being a local doc and gave to the Chatham community, not only as a great doctor in the Berkshire Health System, but as a father, friend, coach, and community member. It is with this in mind that this scholarship/award be given to a unique senior who is likewise a man or woman with a plan. The recipient of this scholarship will demonstrate clear, specific college, career, or business goals that also incorporate the local community s wellbeing. Applications in guidance. Deadline to guidance is Friday, April 27, File Number 29 The Timothy Charron Memorial Scholarship for a senior who is the son, stepson, daughter or stepdaughter of a Chatham Fire Department Firefighter or Ladies Auxiliary member. 4 Marion Heath Payn Scholarship Program is administered by the Board of Education of Chatham Central School District from funds received from the estate of Marion Heath Payn. The income from these funds is used to provide scholarships to worthy and needy graduates of Chatham High School. File Number 88 The Ferris Burtis Scholarship for students who are graduating high school seniors who have been accepted in a conservatory or school of music for the fall term for the purpose of pursuing a career in some form of classical music. File Number 90 ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS Phi Delta Kappa Prospective Educator Scholarships to assist high school seniors who plan to major in education. Applications available in guidance. Deadline to Phi Delta Kappa is March 1, File Number 118 The Leonard Family Scholarship is open to children of New York Association for Pupil Transportation members and children of New York School Bus Contractors Association member company employees. A one-time $2,500 scholarship is paid directly to the educational institution for each winner. The Leonard Family Scholarship is devoted to promoting student success after high school with preference given to students who pursue careers in diesel and automotive mechanics, and those with financial need. Deadline for submitting applications for NYAPT members is April 1, 2018 and March 1, 2018 for NYSBCA. Information available in guidance. File Number 49 The Amy Bindelglass Memorial Essay Scholarship to enhance awareness of organ and tissue donation. Must be a high school junior or senior who writes to an essay to raise awareness about donation & encourage students to enroll in the registry. The Alice & Murray Giddings Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1995 to acknowledge and foster young adults who evidence high academic achievement, strong leadership qualities, and involvement in service to their communities. File Number 86 Bill Shrader, Sr. Memorial Scholarships are awarded to three male and three female runners planning to attend a college, university or community college on a full-time basis. The awards will be limited to track or cross-country runners currently attending a Section II high school or community college. Applications in guidance - Applications must be received by the HNRRC Scholarship Committee by April 1, File Number 40 Aspiring Nurse Scholarship awarded by Nursing Schools Almanac awards a $1,000 scholarship to a future nurse in the high school graduating class of Awarded to an applicant who best demonstrates a track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and math and a passion for the nursing profession and overall field of healthcare. 6 The Zonta Club s Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award for outstanding community service is awarded to a Junior or a Senior. Academic achievement is not a factor in selecting a winner. Applications must be received by the Zonta Club by March 9, File Number 45 Berkshire Bank Scholarships are offered to HS Seniors with a record of community service who attend a high school in a town served by Berkshire Bank. The Berkshire Bank Foundation will award up to 30 local High School Seniors a $1,500 scholarship. Must be a US citizen, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, a gross family annual income under $100,000, and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or technical school. Information available in guidance. File Number 106 ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS Spencertown Fire Company Fred Oleynek Memorial Scholarship to a graduating senior who A) has resided at least 2 years in the area serviced by the Spencertown Fire Co., or B) lives within the Austerlitz Fire District and has a parent who is a member in good standing of the Spencertown Fire Co., and c) plans to continue their education at an institution of higher learning. Applications in guidance; deadline to guidance is March 28, File Number 41 Simon Youth Community Scholarship supported by Lee Premium Outlets and the Simon Youth Foundation awards a one-time award of up to $1,500 to one high school senior who lives near Lee Premium Outlets or in a near-by community. The student must plan to attend an accredited university, two or four year college, or technical or vocational school. Additionally, an Award of Excellence a $2,500 renewable scholarship, will be given to the top candidate from among the scholarship winners that represent each of Simon Property Group s nationwide Premium Outlets locations. All Community Scholarship applicants will be considered for the Award of Excellence, and only a single application needs to be completed. The Colwell Law Group-Single Parent Scholarship understands the difficulty of obtaining a college degree as a single parent or a child of a single parent and we want to help fund that person s education. Awarded to high school seniors, minimum C+ (75%) GPA, pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited institution, in need of financial assistance, and have demonstrated the ability and potential to succeed. 8 ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS NAWIC National Association of Women in Construction Scholarship 2017 offers an award to a qualified female senior who plans to enroll in an accredited college in construction related degree program and wishes to pursue a career in construction: constructional management, architecture: civil, mechanical, structural, or electrical engineering. Bebu Scholarship ($2,100): Established to provide scholarships for minority or economically disadvantaged students planning to attend SUNY Adirondack. The student must be academically highachieving and be able to prove financial need. Michael J. Campbell Memorial Scholarship ($1,500): This award is intended for a graduating senior enrolled in a High School Vocational Education Program in Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie Warren and Washington County of New York State OR a freshman already enrolled in a college or university in pursuit of an Associate's Degree in Construction Technology, Building Construction/Building Trades, Carpentry AAS or AOS, Construction Technology (with carpentry minor), or Construction Technology/Building Construction. Down Syndrome - Aim High Scholarship ($1,900): To benefit students who will assist those with Down Syndrome by pursuing education and a career in the field of special education or speech, physical, or occupational therapy. Ruth Goldstein Memorial Music Scholarship ($500): For a graduating senior from a Capital Region high school who will continue on to study music education or music performance. Special consideration will be given to students whose major instrument is of the woodwind family, piano students who accompany others, or students who demonstrate financial need. Gene Robb Journalism Scholarship (up to $4,000): Established to recognize the many significant contributions that Gene Robb, former publisher of the Times Union, made to the field of journalism. The student must have a clearly demonstrated interest in journalism and provide samples of journalistic work. Personal recommendations are required. Peter Gerkman Jr. Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): This scholarship will be awarded to a greater Capital Region high school senior who participated in the high school varsity-level football program. The student must plan to attend an accredited trade school, college or university (located in the United States) in pursuit of a degree or vocational certification. The student must have demonstrated scholastic ability with a minimum GPA of 80% and vocational achievement in construction technology.

9 Uel Wade Music Scholarship exists to give local area musicians an opportunity to further their musical studies. Application Is open to any teenage high-school musician (instrumental or singer) who resides in Columbia, Greene, Berkshire or Rensselaer Counties and the Capital Region. Deadline to Uel Wade Music Scholarship applications must be mailed/ ed no later than March 31, File Number 57 Operation Unite Community Service Award is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding acts of kindness towards their community, and is in need of financial assistance to pursue further studies at a school of higher learning. Applications available in guidance; deadline to guidance is Friday, April 20, File Number 61 Operation Unite Academic Excellence Award is presented to a graduating senior who has shown outstanding academic achievement, has demonstrated service towards school and community, and is in need of financial assistance to pursue further studies at a school of higher learning. Moore Memorial Scholarship administered by the Ghent Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary is presented to a Chatham high School Senior who is currently volunteering his/her time to a local Fire Company, Fire Company Auxiliary or Rescue Squad. Applicant must be continuing his/her education either through college or trade school, and have been recommended by the organization where he/she is currently a member. Applications in guidance: Completed application forms are due in Guidance no later than May 1, File Number 105 Ghent VFW #5933 Auxiliary Scholarship is awarded to a child, grandchild, niece or nephew who is a graduating student and also related to a Veteran of Foreign Wars. Deadline to Guidance is no later than 9:00 am on April 18, File Number 77 The Ianniello Anderson, P.C. Scholarship for Cybersecurity for math/science/stem students and the The Iannielo Anderson, P.C Scholarship for the Arts for aspiring artists. Ianniello Anderson, P.C., a leading Capital Region law firm, will be awarding (2)$ 1,000 scholarships to NYS high school seniors who will be attending college or university within New York State and pursuing a degree in either cybersecurity. 10 ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS The Team Smith Movement Scholarship helps provide financial assistance to individuals enrolled for undergraduate study in community colleges, colleges, trade schools and universities. The scholarships provided principally targets two and four year academic programs; however, certificate/licensing programs are also eligible. Applicants must have permanent residence status in Columbia County. Deadline to Scholarship Committee is Thursday, May 31, Information and applications available in guidance. File Number 71 Upstage Productions Senior Awards for the purpose of cultivating, promoting, fostering, sponsoring and developing an understanding, taste and appreciation for the performing arts. Students must have participated in some form of art (i.e. art classes, musicals, OVA, band, etc.) Applications in guidance. Deadline to guidance is Friday, April 20, File Number 59 Rider Mills Historical Association-F. Fowler Root Scholarships are given in memory of F. Fowler Root to two graduating CHS students planning to further their education and who has shown academic achievement (not necessarily the highest GPA), good character, community/school involvement and the motivation to pursue their field. Requires an essay describing why you feel you are the best candidate for this scholarship, what your interests are, community service, hobbies, jobs and what are your career goals in your chosen field, plus at least two letters of recommendation, one must be from someone other than your teacher or relative. Applications available in guidance; deadline to guidance is April 11, File Number 47 Price Chopper Golub and Market 32 Supermarket Scholarships will be available online in early April and can be accessed at Price Chopper Scholarship Website Consideration will only be given to those applications that are complete and submitted with all requested supporting documents.. The $5,000 Entrepreneurial AdvantEdge Scholarship, The $2,000 Diversity AdvantEdge Scholarship, The $2,000 Teammate AdvantEdge Schloarhip and the $1,000 Ability AdvantEdge Scholarship. Information available in guidance. Deadline is May 4, File Number 20 CEN Manufacturing 2018 Scholarship is awarded to encourage students to consider careers in manufacturing. For high school seniors graduating in 2018 and accepted at an accredited two or four year college, university or trade school and planning to enroll in a major which can lead to qualifying for a position with a manufacturer. Deadline to Organization is March 31, File Number 7 American Society of Civil Engineers Mohawk-Hudson Section Scholarship is for a graduating senior seeking to continue their education with a goal and desire to become a practicing civil engineer. 11 The Garden Club of Kinderhook Scholarship for graduating seniors enrolling in a degree program in Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Botany, Agronomy, City Planning, Land Management or Related Fields.
