For the most current scholarship information, please visit our website, Please note that each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements, review process, and application deadline. Many scholarships are for residents of specific counties or graduates of specific high schools. Scholarships are arranged according to the geographic areas from which applicants may apply. To apply for any of the scholarships listed below, please contact the specified organization or guidance office. Applications available from the Maine Community Foundation note the web address. These applications are available January June 15 unless deadlines fall at another time of the year. SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS TO ATTEND PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOLS Challenger Fund The Challenger Memorial Scholarship Fund provides a renewable scholarship resource for exceptionally talented, public elementary school graduates who reside in Maine needing financial assistance to pursue their education at the following schools: Gould Academy, Hebron Academy, Kents Hill School, North Yarmouth Academy and Waynflete School. Scholarships will be granted on the basis of established Maine residency, academic or artistic talents, aspirations, leadership skills, and financial need. Special emphasis will be placed on exceptional students who have not experienced an environment supportive of educational aspirations and who need the nurturing environment of a private school to develop their full potential. Contact: Maine middle school guidance offices or Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: May 1 Greg Francoeur Memorial Scholarship Fund Greg Francoeur was an avid skier who took great joy in sharing his love of the sport. He was particularly interested in helping younger skiers perfect their technique and devoted many hours to the students enrolled in the weekend program at Carrabassett Valley Academy. Greg s family and friends established this Fund to celebrate Greg s passion for excellence and to encourage others to strive for their personal best. Scholarship support will be provided to students enrolled at Carrabassett Valley Academy who would not be able to take advantage of educational and training opportunities without financial assistance. While skiers of all styles are invited to apply, Greg s forte was freestyle and the Advisory Committee is particularly interested in supporting skiers who share the same interest. Contact: Carrabassett Valley Academy or Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: April 1 STATEWIDE SCHOLARSHIPS FUNDS TO ATTEND ASPIRATIONAL AND NON-TRADITIONAL PROGRAMS Daniel Cardillo Charitable Fund

2 EIN # The family, friends and admirers of Dan Cardillo, a compassionate young man with a true love of life and its possibilities, established the Daniel Cardillo Charitable Fund in Dan was a junior Olympic skier, an avid fisherman, a serious student, a gifted artist and an exceptionally kind human being. He lived life fully and attacked all of his challenges with a passion that has become legendary. He encouraged others to do their personal best and reach for their goals. This Fund celebrates Dan s passion for life and his friends by encouraging others to achieve their personal best. Scholarship assistance will be provided to young people pursuing their artistic, academic, athletic, and vocational or life s passion outside of the traditional school environment (i.e. experiential education, tuition for summer programs or studies, special athletic instruction). Eligible applicants must demonstrate a need for financial assistance, clearly demonstrate a commitment to their passion, and demonstrate a compassion for others. Contact: Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: May 1 Discovery Fund The Discovery Fund was established to support Maine public, private or parochial high school students wishing to pursue non-sectarian academic, artistic, vocational, or life experience opportunities outside the normal school environment. Applicants must be attending a high school in Maine and preference is for students who were born in Maine. Contact: High school guidance offices and Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: April 1 STATEWIDE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS TO ATTEND COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OR COMMUNITY COLLEGE CMP Scholarship Fund In January, 1995, the John W. Rowe Scholarship Fund was revised and renamed The CMP Group Scholarship Fund. Applicants must be: dependents of employees or recent retirees of CMP or its subsidiaries; high school seniors graduating from a Maine secondary school; reside within Central Maine Power Company s service area; and enrolled in an accredited two or four-year undergraduate college or university. Scholarships will be granted on the basis of personal aspirations, academic achievement, financial need, and the student s contribution to school or community activities. Ifill Fund provides scholarship support to eligible members of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls in Maine to pursue post-secondary education. Contact: International Order of Rainbow Girls in Maine Gary Merrill Memorial Fund The Gary Merrill Memorial Fund was established in 1990 by Gary s family and friends to commemorate his life. Gary was a distinguished stage and screen actor who appeared in many roles in the 1950 s 70 s. More important to Gary than his acting career was the pursuit of social justice to which he was passionately committed. Gary attended Bowdoin College and lived most of his life in Maine, loving the sea that gave him energy. This scholarship was created in his memory and is intended for those who share Gary s ideals and commitments. The Fund supports Bowdoin undergraduates demonstrating financial need with preference given to Government majors who have distinguished themselves in their studies. 3 EIN # The Guy P. Gannett Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by the Guy P. Gannett Foundation to provide renewable support for students majoring in journalism or a field reasonably related, including all forms of print, broadcast or electronic media. Recipients must be graduates of Maine high schools or home-schooled in Maine. Students will be chosen based on demonstrated interest in journalism, financial need and academic achievement. The Guy P. Gannett Scholarship recognizes students who will become journalists. Their dedication to this profession is evident in their choice of coursework and extracurricular activities. Recipients are encouraged to apply for renewal consideration throughout their post-secondary and graduate education. As recipients progress through school, the Selection Committee expects to see a significant increase in demonstrated intent to pursue a career in journalism Contact: Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: May 1 Island Institute Scholarship Fund The Island Institute Scholarship Fund offers renewable scholarship support to students from Maine s fourteen year-round unbridged island communities who are attending post-secondary education at a two- or four-year institution. Mayo ALS Scholarship Fund In 2000, while serving as Clerk of the House, Mr. Mayo was stricken with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Friends of Joe Mayo have established this scholarship to recognize his contributions as a father, friend and public servant. This scholarship was established to assist men and women who are children, step-children, grandchildren, spouses, domestic partners or the primary care givers of ALS patients. The Joseph W. Mayo ALS Scholarship is awarded annually to a student (or students) who are attending a postsecondary educational institution, including both 4-year colleges and 2-year associate programs. The student recipient must be a graduate of a Maine high school or GED program Contact: Maine Bankers Association or Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: May 1 Lawrence and Louise Robbins Scholarship Fund This scholarship is for employees or retirees of the Robbins Lumber Company of Searsmont or their children or grandchildren to pursue post-secondary education. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, personal aspirations, and contributions to school and the community. Contact: Douglas C. Fortin, Controller, Robbins Lumber Inc. at Application Deadline: April 15 Maine Vietnam Veterans Scholarship Fund The Maine Vietnam Veterans Scholarship Fund, founded in 1985, provides scholarship support to Maine veterans of the United States Armed Services who served in the Vietnam Theater and their descendants. As a second priority, the scholarship may be awarded to children of veterans of the United States Armed Services. Contact: High school guidance offices or Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: May 1 Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram Scholarship Fund This fund was established by Blethen Maine Newspapers to provide renewable support to graduating high school seniors who are Maine residents and students of color enrolled in a degree program at the University of Southern Maine. The term student of color shall mean a resident of Maine from a racial or ethnic minority, including but not limited to African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, etc. Contact: High school guidance offices or Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: May 1 R.V. "Gadabout" Gaddis Charitable Fund

4 EIN # Established in 1995 in memory of Gadabout Gaddis, a writer from Maine, this fund supports fellowships at the Institutes for Journalism and Natural Resourses with a preference for participants from Maine and Florida. Contact: Institutes for Journalism & Natural Resources, Missoula, MT Rice Scholarship Fund The Rice Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 to provide scholarship support for students who have resided a substantial part of their formative years (K-8) on an off-shore island of Maine in the area from Seguin to Eastport who are attending accredited, degree-granting colleges or vocational training schools. While there is a preference for residents of off-shore islands, eligible residents of bridged islands of Maine are also invited to submit an application. Recipients will be selected based on financial need and their ongoing, demonstrated commitment to community service. Applicants must have graduated from a non-sectarian high school. Contact: High school guidance offices or Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: May 1 Ronald P. Guerrette FFA Scholarship Fund The Ronald P. Guerrette FFA Scholarship Fund was created in the spring of 1998 by friends and family to honor the life and work of Ronald P. Guerrette of Caribou. The Fund will provide three post-secondary scholarships to students from Caribou High School, Aroostook County, and Maine. Applicants must be FFA members, and high school seniors or in their freshman, sophomore or junior year in college. Preference is for those applicants pursuing post-secondary studies in farming or agriculture. Contact: Local FFA advisors or Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: March 1 Ruth Milan-Altrusa Scholarship Fund This scholarship was established in 1993 in memory of Ruth Milan to provide scholarship support to students who are pursuing a B.S. in nursing and enrolled in the EMMC/Husson College Nursing Program. Contact: Husson College financial aid office Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship Fund The Mitchell Scholarships were established in 1994 by U.S. Senator George J. Mitchell. One of Senator Mitchell's highest priorities is to expand and improve opportunities for the education of young people in Maine. The Mitchell Institute awards a scholarship to a graduating senior from every public high school in Maine. Contact: Mitchell Institute at SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS FOR GRADUATE EDUCATION CWG Scholarship Fund The CWG Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 to benefit college graduates working in the mental health services and registered nurses in the State of Maine seeking graduate training in mental health services. The preferred candidates will be college graduates currently or formerly employed by providers of mental health services in the State of Maine who are currently enrolled in an M.S.W. or other degree program valuable for work in the mental health field, or Registered nurses working for hospitals or outpatient providers of social and mental health services who wish to pursue specialized, post-r.n. training in order to work more effectively with patients with mental health problems. Contact: Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: May 1 Downeast Feline Fund This fund was established in 1995 to provide scholarship support for graduates of Maine high schools who are attending a veterinary school of medicine. 5 EIN # Guy P. Gannett Scholarship Fund The Guy P. Gannett Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by the Guy P. Applicants must be accepted into an accredited graduate degree program to receive an award. Contact: Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: April 1 ANDROSCOGGIN COUNTY REGION SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS Anchorage Scholarship for Visual and Peforming Arts The Anchorage Scholarship for Visual and Performing Arts supports graduates of M.S.A.D. 52 high schools, currently Leavitt Area High School, who are pursuing a degree in visual or performing arts at an accredited college or university. There is a preference for residents of Leeds, Maine. Contact: Leavitt Area High School guidance office Donald W. Webber Scholarship Fund The Donald W. Webber Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 by the partners of the law firm of Linnell, Choate and Webber and his friends and family. Justice Webber was born in Auburn, graduated from Edward Little High School in 1923 and from Bowdoin College in After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1931, he returned to Maine to practice. He was named the youngest justice to the Maine Superior Court at age 41 and later became an associate justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine. Beyond his legal and judicial practice, Justice Webber was active in other aspects of the community, serving as president of the Kiwanis Club and chairman of the United Way Campaign. He was a charter member of the Community Little Theater and a deacon and teacher with the High Street Congregational Church. The Donald W. Webber Scholarship Fund provides scholarship support for graduating seniors at Edward Little High School who are attending a four-year college. Contact: Edward Little High School guidance office Application Deadline: May 15 Leeds Scholarship Fund The Leeds Scholarship Fund supports a graduating senior at Leavitt Area High School who resides in Leeds, Maine, pursuing post-secondary education at a college, university or community college. Contact: Leavitt Area High School guidance office Paul Stephen Friedler Scholarship Fund The Paul Stephen Friedler Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by his family and friends in memory of Paul, a member of Lewiston High School Class of 1955, who lost his life while serving in Vietnam. Eligible applicants are graduating seniors of Lewiston High School who are pursuing post-secondary education, preferably in music, philosophy, mathematics or physics. 6 EIN # AROOSTOOK COUNTY REGION SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS Class of '54 Scholarship Fund The Fort Fairfield Class of 1954 established this renewable scholarship in honor of its 50th reunion. Eligible applicants are graduating seniors of Fort Fairfield Middle High School who are pursuing post-secondary education, preferably at a four-year college or university. Selection will be made on the basis of financial need and attainment of a GPA of 85 (equivalent to a B average) throughout the applicant's high school career. Contact: Fort Fairfield Middle High School guidance office Application Deadline: April 1 Chet Jordan Leadership Award Fund This scholarship was established in 1995 in memory of Chet Jordan, a Portland based businessman who exhibited a deep sense of civic responsibility in his community and his home state of Maine. Mr. Jordan grew up in Portland and spent his leisure time in Patten and Aroostook County, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. The family and friends of Chet Jordan established this scholarship to celebrate the rich legacy of his leadership in business and civic affairs in his beloved state of Maine. Chet found opportunity in adversity. He was a visionary thinker who respected diverse opinions. He was actively involved with his family, friends, employees and community and delighted in their successes. The Chet Jordan Leadership Award is presented to students who are emerging leaders in their community and school. Eligible applicants are graduating seniors at the following high schools: Augusta, Bangor, Brewer, Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Deering, Falmouth, Gorham, Katahdin, Portland, Scarborough, South Portland, Yarmouth, and all high schools in Aroostook County who are leaders despite hardship, adversity or disability. Academic excellence is not a prerequisite, but demonstrated compassion, dependability and hard work are. Contact: High School guidance offices or Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: April 15 Edith A. Kimball Memorial Scholarship Fund The Edith A. Kimball Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 to provide scholarship support to graduates of Central Aroostook High School who have resided for at least the two previous years in the towns of Bridgewater, Blaine or Mars Hill. Eligible applicants are students pursuing post-secondary vocational or technical education, or individuals pursuing a career in teaching and/or performing music. Preference will be given to hardworking students with average grades. This scholarship may be renewed based on the continued satisfactory performance of the student. Emphasis shall not be placed on individuals contemplating a career in any of the Health Sciences. Contact: Central Aroostook High School guidance office Application Deadline: April 15 Erin Elizabeth Sperrey Memorial Scholarship Fund The Erin Elizabeth Sperrey Memorial Scholarship Fund supports students who have successfully attended the Presque Isle High School Alternative Education Center (PIAHS) and are pursuing post-secondary education. Erin Sperrey was a young woman who was just beginning to set goals for herself when her life was cruelly ended. She planned to return to college and study graphic design and architecture. Her legacy will live on in the scholarship that bears her name. Applications are invited from graduates of PIAHS as well as those students who attended the school but graduated from another high school or have subsequently received their GED. 7 EIN # Ray and Sandy Gauvin, longtime residents of Presque Isle, established the Gauvin Family Scholarship in 2001 to help committed, hard-working students with average grades to continue on to post-secondary education that will enable them to become successful, responsible and productive members of their communities. White Scholarship Fund This fund was established through a bequest by Mr. White, a member of the Houlton High School Class of 1929, in loving memory of his wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Janet. Elizabeth White taught home economics at Houlton High School for many years, and Janet White was a member of the Class of This fund provides support to deserving Houlton High School graduates for their post-secondary education and assists Houlton High School faculty in attending professional development programs. McPartland Scholarship Fund was establish in 2004 through gifts from the family of Mr. McPartland, a member of the Houlton High School Class of 1943, in celebration of his 80th birthday. This fund celebrates Mr. McPartland s generosity and appreciation for the value of a college education. Eligible applicants are graduating seniors at Houlton High School who are pursuing post-secondary studies at a two- or four-year college. Contact: Houlton High School Alumni Association or Houlton High School guidance office Jerome Peters Family Fund The Jerome Peters Family Fund benefits Maine residents in their second, third or fourth year at Bentley College. Preference is given to residents of Aroostook County. Contact: Bentley College office of financial aid or Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: May 1 Joleen Fitzpatrick Raymond Scholarship Fund This fund was established in 1995 to provide scholarship support for graduates of Houlton High School and Orono High School to pursue a post-secondary program in the field of education. Contact: Houlton and Orono High School guidance offices Laurel W. Thompson Scholarship Fund The Laurel W. Thompson Scholarship Fund supports students from Washburn, Wade and Perham, Maine. Contact: Washburn District High School guidance office Leland R. Dahlgren Scholarship Fund The Leland R. Dahlgren Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 by the family and friends of Leland R. Dahlgren. The fund provides scholarship assistance to graduates of Washburn District (Aroostook County, Maine) High School and Yarmouth (Cumberland County, Maine) High School with a strong preference for students who plan to pursue a course of study in the building trades at a two or four year college or university. Relevant fields include earthwork, hvac, electrical, architecture, engineering [mechanical, structural], carpentry, masonry, and plumbing. Contact: Guidance offices of Washburn District and Yarmouth High Schools Limestone High School Class of 1952 Scholarship Fund This fund provides scholarship assistance to graduating seniors at Limestone Community School to attend a post-secondary college or community college.

8 Contact: Limestone Community School guidance office EIN # Margaret and Bert Tidd Memorial Scholarship The Margaret and Bert Tidd Memorial Scholarship was established through a bequest by Velma Bradstreet to support deserving students residing in Bridgewater, Maine, who intend to pursue post-secondary education at a two- or four-year college or university. Contact: Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School guidance office Margaret Gertrude Fitzpatrick Scholarship Fund The Margaret Gertrude Fitzpatrick Scholarship Fund was established by her family in Margaret Fitzpatrick was a compassionate nurse, much loved by her patients and students, who worked for 30 years at the Madigan Memorial Hospital in Houlton. She gave generously of her time and talents to her church and community. This scholarship provides assistance to a graduating senior at Houlton High School pursuing postsecondary education in healthcare, with a preference for nursing, at a four-year college or university in Maine. Contact: Houlton High School guidance office Matie Morrison Lockett Scholarship Fund This scholarship was established in 1995 to provide scholarship support to high school graduates of Sherman Mills for post-secondary college, vocational, or technical education. Contact: Katahdin High School guidance office Phyllis Dow Scholarship Fund The Phyllis Dow Scholarship Fund provides scholarship support to graduates of a high school within a 15-mile radius of Mapleton, Maine. Priority will be given to members of the Methodist Church in Mapleton who are attending an accredited four-year college or university. Fournier Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 to provide scholarship assistance to an Ashland Community High School graduate who wishes to continue his or her education in the business, commercial or technical fields at an accredited two or four year college/university. Contact: Ashland Community High School guidance office Ronald P. Guerrette FFA Scholarship Fund The Ronald P. Guerrette FFA Scholarship Fund was created in the spring of 1998 by friends and family to honor the life and work of Ronald P. Guerrette of Caribou. Contact: Maine Community Foundation Application Deadline: April 15 CUMBERLAND COUNTY REGION SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS Ann Mason-Osann Scholarship Fund The friends and family of Ann Mason-Osann established this scholarship to honor her memory and celebrate her love of music. The fund is to provide support to graduating high school seniors who are residents of Gorham or

9 EIN # congregants at the First Parish Church in Gorham to pursue post-secondary education in music, preferably voice. Financial need is to be considered only in the case of equally qualified applicants. Contact: Gorham High School guidance office Billy Brown Sports Award Billy Brown graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in He was a passionate athlete both on and off the field. He was a big fan and supporter of all Cape Elizabeth sports. After graduating CEHS, Billy went on to coach baseball and softball at Yarmouth Middle School and soccer at Portland High School. With the same spirit and passion with which Billy always embraced sports, his family and friends have created this award for a deserving Cape Elizabeth student. The purpose of this award is to celebrate a graduating senior who clearly demonstrates a passion for sports through participation as an athlete, manager or mascot while at Cape Elizabeth High School. The position held and individual sports are not as important as the student s enthusiasm and commitment a student who is there for the love of it. Eligible nominees are hard-working students who have achieved a consistent academic record. Nominations are invited from any coach working with students in the Athletic Program at Cape Elizabeth High School. Contact: Cape Elizabeth High School guidance office Application Deadline: April 4 Brant Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund The Brant Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by his family and friends to support Harpswell residents who are graduating seniors at Mt. Ararat High School pursue post-secondary education at a college, university or other educational source of general equivalency. Preference will be given to eligible applicants pursuing studies in a technical field such as boat building, drafting, electronics, graphic design and information technology. Contact: Mt. She shared her passion for art for many years as a teacher in the Boston schools. Her skill as a cellist was a more personal interest, which she enjoyed with her friends. Although she worked in Boston throughout her career, Pearl considered her family s camp in Waterford to be her home. This is where she spent her summer vacations and came to live when she retired from teaching. She brought her love of classical music and art to Waterford and established this scholarship to encourage students who share her passion to pursue their education in these fields. The purpose of this Fund is to provide renewable scholarship support to graduates of high schools in Oxford County, Maine or Lake Region High School in Naples, Maine to pursue college-level education in music or the arts (with special consideration to be given to the study of painting, drawing or sculpture). Art in this context

Cothren Scholarship Fund Created by two separate trusts that were combined in 1993, the fund provides scholarship support to graduates of Mount Blue High School in Farmington who are pursuing a post-secondary education. Churchill Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by the employees of Central Maine Power Company in honor of Brent Churchill s deep commitment to community service. The fund provides scholarship assistance to a graduating senior of Mt. Blue High School, including those who attend classes at Foster Applied Technology Center, who is pursuing post-secondary education at a university, community college or business school with a curriculum of at least one year. Blue High School guidance office or Maine Community Foundation Hugh and Elizabeth Montgomery Scholarship Fund Both Elizabeth (Betty) and Hugh Montgomery had their roots in Phillips, Maine. Betty was born in Phillips and attended schools there and Hugh summered there in the old farm house that belonged in his family. They both went to college, Betty to Simmons and Hugh to Harvard, and pursued careers as librarians. Their wish was that this fund would provide the opportunity for deserving students of Franklin County to receive financial assistance towards furthering their education. This renewable scholarship supports residents of Franklin County who are non-traditional students (beyond high-school age) returning to school to continue their education at the postsecondary level. There is preference for students for whom a scholarship would make a significant difference in their ability to attend school. First-time applicants need not be enrolled in a degree-granting program but are encouraged to make that commitment before applying for renewal consideration.
