Instructions Submit the following items for each DONOR-AWARDED scholarship you wish to apply to: 1) A cover sheet containing the name of the scholarship AND your name; click HERE for an example 2) A completed scholarship application; click HERE to print a copy 3) A copy of your unofficial transcript (Counseling Center can a copy to you) 4) 2 letters of recommendation from a non-family member 5) Any additional application materials required by the donor (check scholarship description) Deadline All applications are due to the Counseling Center by 3:30pm on Tuesday, March 20 th. 2 Scholarship Descriptions DR. KELLY GARWOOD SCHOLARSHIP - $250 A Mount Si High School graduate who is planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and will be judged upon the following criteria: academic achievement, school involvement, community service, and career goals. DR. KIRBY NELSON SCHOLARSHIP - $500 A Mount Si High School graduate who is planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution. Applicants will be judged upon the following criteria: academic achievement, education and career goals, and demonstration of leadership and community service. This scholarship is open to current or former patients of Dr. Kirby Nelson. FCCA / FALL CITY NEIGHBORS NEWSLETTER SCHOLARSHIP - (2) $500 1) Must live in the Fall City Elementary School boundary 2) Has demonstrated academic skills 3) Is planning to go on to further education 4) Has a financial need 5) Has volunteered in the Fall City Community 6) Has an interest in pursuing education or a career in the media (newspaper, television, podcasts, radio, and photo journalism) or in the public service sector (elected political office, non-profit service organizations, etc.) HENRY TR KENNEDY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - (2) $500 Hank is one of the best athletes to graduate from Mount Si in His great-grandma, grandparents, and parents all graduated from Mount Si and continue to call the valley home. Lemony Snicket once said, "There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you, and there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself."...and to know the difference defines perseverance. Mount Si High School Graduate planning to attend a 2-year community college, technical college, 4-year college, or a trade school. JAMES MCKIERNAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (2) $1,000 James McKiernan was a 2005 graduate of Mount Si High School, following his parents who were also graduates of Mount Si. He was heavily involved in Mount Si Football. He was an inspiration to many of his classmates, not always being the biggest or fastest, but his perseverance and determination paid off. He graduated from Central Washington University in 2010 and went to work for Connell Grain Growers as a seed broker. He was killed in an accident in Pasco in December This scholarship is in his memory to highlight the importance Mount Si High School teachers and coaches played in his success. Any high school senior in the Snoqualmie Valley who plans to attend Central Washington University. Candidates are weighed on a number of criteria including financial need, academic achievement, social skills, and community service. In addition, the student(s) must have participated and finished, one season of any sport while at Mount Si High School. 3 MASONIC LODGE GAINES VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500 Student must be a Mount Si senior planning to attend a 2-year community college, technical college, or private trade school. THE MITCHELL FAMILY FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP (4) $500 The purpose of this award is to support a graduating senior who is going on to play a college sport, specifically football. Our family hosted a football camp this past summer with the purpose of raising funds to help support a senior going on to chase their dream of playing in college athletics. Our family understands the financial burden of participating in college athletics because of how few full-scholarships there are and our hope is that this award helps ease the cost for the first year of school. The graduating senior is going on to participate in college athletics, preferably football, but not exclusively Financial need for this award GPA Outstanding community service Additional Application Materials: Please write a short essay, minimum 500 / maximum 1000 words, on what Athletics has meant to you and the impact that it has had on your life. MT SI ARTIST GUILD FUTURE ARTIST AWARD - $ year guild membership & display opportunity Mt. Si Artist Guild Scholarship is designed to foster and promote students continuing education goals in the visual arts including but not limited to: architecture, ceramics, drawing, fashion, graphic design, illustration, interior design, painting and photography. Consideration will be given to student s academic performance, school activities, volunteer activities, and financial considerations. Additional Application Materials: Attach the below additional materials to your application. Two letters of recommendation from art instructors A student essay titled How my art contributes to the world/ society Two.pdf images of their completed artwork Student s future plans in art Financial considerations Student personal statement MT SI FISH & GAME CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000 Additional Application Materials: Essay should also include interests, recreation and hobbies. MT SI LACROSSE CLUB SCHOLARSHIP (2) $500 The scholarship shall be awarded to one girl and one boy applicant who best represent the core club values of character, community and sportsmanship. We will seek out those players that best demonstrate respect for all players, officials and opponents and foster a healthy competitive environment while promoting sportsmanship and teamwork. 4 NORTH BEND EDUCATIONAL & CULTURAL ASSOCIATION (NBECA) Judy K. Boyce Community Service Memorial Scholarship (3) $500 Judy K Boyce ( ) was a dedicated volunteer to the Festival at Mt Si and long-serving on the Festival Committee. For over ten years, Judy volunteered with the Festival and many other Snoqualmie Valley organizations. Judy always followed through with what she said she would do, and took pride and satisfaction in serving her community. Judy was dedicated to helping make her community a better place for everyone. Working hard to make sure events were successful, Judy was an example to all of us on how to see a task through to the end. Purpose: To encourage young people to continue their education after high school To provide financial assistance to young people who seek a wider variety of options in their educational pursuits To recognize young people who have demonstrated a commitment to Snoqualmie Valley communities through volunteer service with regional organizations and non-profits To recognize students who have volunteered with, or supported, the Spring Scholarship Auction, the Festival at Mt Si and/or the North Bend Educational and Cultural Association (NBECA) Students graduating from a MSHS or Two Rivers High School who intend to enroll in a 2-year or 4-year educational institution or enroll in vocational training, apprenticeships or certification programs including but not limited to culinary arts, cosmetology, data science, project management or programming Students who demonstrate a personal history of volunteerism Additional Application Materials: Include the following information in your application. Students may attach a separate document if needed. All volunteer history including any history volunteering with Festival at Mt Si or Spring Scholarship Auction Financial need description Description of how student has overcome adversity in his/her life Agreement to update NBECA Board in writing with progress in January 2018 PAUL HOFF SCHOLARSHIP - $500 Paul Hoff was a teacher at Mount Si High School for almost thirty years. He taught U. S. History, Auto Shop, and Senior World Problems. Mr. Hoff furthered his education to become Mount Si s first full time librarian. He was totally devoted to students and shared with them his knowledge and his love for learning. To qualify for this scholarship you must be a Mount Si High School graduate with definite vocational or career plans, acceptable grades, a strong interest in the liberal arts (social studies), and be attending a four-year college or university. PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTER S of IAFF Local 2878 SCHOLARSHIP - $500 The International Association of Firefighters Local 2878 represents the firefighters of Eastside Fire & Rescue, King County Fire District 45 (Duvall), King County Fire District 27 (Fall City) and the City of Snoqualmie. We provide fire protection, emergency medical and rescue services to much of East King County including: Carnation, Duvall, Fall City, Issaquah, May Valley, North Bend, Preston, Sammamish, Snoqualmie, Tiger Mountain and Wilderness Rim. Our organization takes pride in the provision of community service and have established the International Association of Firefighters Local 2878 Professional Firefighter s Scholarship to reward and encourage those high school seniors who share in the effort. Definition: This scholarship is intended to assist the recipient with costs associated with any type of post-secondary education he or she pursues. 1. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is pursuing any type of post-secondary education. 2. Applicant must reside within our service area. If you have question about service area eligibility please contact the 2878 Scholarship Chair, Mike Bailey, at (425) Applicant must meet all application requirements as stated. 5 Additional Application Requirements: Applicants must attach the following to their application packet: 1. Official copy of high school transcript. 2. Copy of SAT or ACT scores. 3. At least two letters of character reference, one from school staff member and one from a community member not related to the applicant. 4. An essay, to be no longer than 500 words, outlining the applicant s community service activities, what community service means to you, why you re involved in community service, etc. Include information about yourself as well as your plans post high school and future career goals. PUBLIC SCHOOL EMPLOYEES OF WASHINGTON SCHOLARSHIPS - $200 per student Applicants MUST be a child of a classified (not certified) Snoqualmie Valley Public School Employee and a member of the PSE Union. This scholarship is offered to each graduating senior who is planning to attend an accredited postsecondary institution. Financial need is not a consideration. PSE will distribute scholarships funds upon receiving proof of successful completion of the student s first quarter or semester at school. Student will provide proof via an official transcript from the college. REINIG MEMORIALS- LESLIE REINIG NORTON MEMORIAL AND PEGGY REINIG JONES MEMORIAL - (2) $1,000 The applicant must be a female graduate of Mount Si High School, planning to attend a 4-year college, or plans to attend a 4-year college after first attending a 2-year college. Recipients will have demonstrated academic skills and demonstrated a strong commitment to school and community activities that improve the lives of others. SAM SAIMO MEMORIAL ART SCHOLARSHIP - (1) $500 Sam Saimo had an eye for angles behind the lens of a camera angles that captured the beauty of the place he called home the Snoqualmie Valley. He loved his home. He climbed its mountains, hiked and biked its trails, floated its river, did flips off its old train trestle bridges into the mountain-fed water below. He was an artist. Passionate about photography. An outdoor enthusiast. An adventurer. Kind. A friend to all. This scholarship is intended to honor his memory and how he lived his life. This scholarship is for a Mount Si student who is interested in pursuing the arts in a community college, technical school, trade school or 4 year college with an added demonstration of kindness and tolerance. SNOQUALMIE VALLEY KIWANIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - (5) $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded for career advancement to a graduate of Mount Si High School meeting the following qualifications: definite plans for future school at a post-secondary institution, financial need, a sincere career purpose, acceptable grades, and participation in school and community activities. *At least one of the four scholarships will be awarded to a Key Club member. SNOQUALMIE VALLEY LIONS SCHOLARSHIP - (2) $750-1,500 Candidates must be eligible to graduate from Mount Si High School in 2018 and enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution. $1,500 will be awarded to students enrolled in a 4-year institution and students enrolled in vocational schools or community college are eligible for a $750 scholarship. Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria: academic achievement, education and career goals, and demonstration of leadership, community service, employment, and financial need. 6 SNOQUALMIE VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIP - (2) $500 Candidates must have played baseball or softball in the SVLL and be qualified to graduate. Applicants must be pursuing higher education at an accredited post-secondary institution. Vocational-Technical College, two-year, or four-year colleges are acceptable. Additional Application Materials: Candidates need to write a 200-word essay sharing their experience in Little League as well as ways they have demonstrated leadership by contributing to their community. Applicants may be asked to introduce themselves to the SVLL Board of Directors at a meeting in the North Bend Depot. Parents are welcome to attend. SNOQUALMIE VALLEY ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP (1) $2,500 & (1) $500 Any high school senior in the Snoqualmie Valley who plans to attend a 2-year community college or an accredited 4-year college/university. The Rotary is specifically looking for students with strong community service experience but also evaluate students based on financial need, academic achievement, and social skills. WILDCAT BOYS BASKETBALL BOOSTER SCHOLARSHIP - $500 Applicant must be a Mount Si High School senior who has participated in the Wildcat Basketball program. Applicant must also be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution the year following graduation. The Wildcat Booster Association is sponsoring this scholarship for the purpose of recognizing outstanding achievements in both athletics and academics. WILDCAT GIRLS BASKETBALL BOOSTER SCHOLARSHIP - $500 Applicant must be a Mount Si High School senior who has participated in a minimum of 3 years in the Wildcat Basketball program. Applicant must also be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution the year following graduation. The Wildcat Booster Association is sponsoring this scholarship on an annual basis for the purpose of recognizing outstanding achievements in both athletics and academics. WILDCAT GIRLS SOCCER BOOSTER SCHOLARSHIP (2) $500 The Mount Si Girls Soccer Booster Club will recognize a graduating senior for outstanding achievement in these areas: 1) Commitment to soccer, 2) Commitment to academics, and 3) Commitment to the community. Applicants must be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution the year following graduation. Additional Application Materials: Applicants must complete and attach a separate essay of 250 words or less clearly stating their outstanding achievements in the above stated areas. WILDCAT SPEECH & DEBATE BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIP up to $1,000 Former or current active member of Mount Si Speech & Debate Club for at least one year and at least 500 NSDA points gained through tournament participation. Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 through Fall quarter/semester of Planning to attend an eligible two/four year college/university for Fall of 2017 Additional Application Materials: Speech & Debate Booster Club requires a separate application. 7 SNOQUALMIE VALLEY YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATON SCHOLARSHIP up to $1,200 Number/Amount of Scholarships: SnVYSA has $1,200 earmarked to be used for scholarships. SnVYSA reserves the right to give not less than one or more than four equal scholarships to graduating seniors from Cedarcrest HS and/or Mt Si HS. The decision of the number of scholarships to give will be made each year after review of the required student essay by the SnVYSA BOD. The essay will be evaluated on content as well as grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Grade Point Average not less than 3.0 Soccer playing experience of at least one year with SnVYSA and at least one full season playing soccer for Cedarcrest HS or Mount Si HS Additional Application Materials: Essay of no more than 250 words answering the following How Playing Soccer has Affected My Life (speak to playing experience as well as coaching and/or referee experience, if any). A copy of the cover/student information page of their application packet showing GPA, SAT, ACT scores and class rank. This information has been missing in the past on some applications making the application incomplete and therefore not considered for the award. A transcript copy showing classes taken and grades. Submitting Your Application: Mail all materials to the below address, postmarked no later than Friday, March 30th, 2017: Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association PO Box 1435 North Bend, WA SNOQUALMIE VALLEY YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATION ED ELDREDGE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500 The Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association offers this scholarship to honor the life and accomplishments of community member Ed Eldredge. Ed was very supportive of youth soccer and involved in SnVYSA as a Board Member. He was also involved with East King County Soccer Referee s Association as a USSF referee, assignor, assessor and administrator. Ed tragically passed away while on vacation in Montana in February Graduating high school senior from Cedarcrest HS, Mount Si HS or Two Rivers School. Grade point of 3.0 or higher. Minimum Grade 8 refereeing certification with experience of at least one year officiating matches for SnVYSA district level teams. Additional Application Materials: Incomplete application packets will not be considered. Essay of 250 words minimum addressing How Officiating as a Youth Referee Has Affected My Life.
