2 Vice President Message 2015 Finding Your Balance These days we are all pulled in several different directions. We try to juggle work, family, friends, and (for some of us) school. This is why the Indiana Dental Hygienists' Association Professional Development Committee has chosen "Finding Your Balance" as the theme of the 2015 Annual Session. This year you have an opportunity to take courses meant to enhance your work life as well as your personal life. Thanks to Chrissy Stephan, we are excited to offer a sharpening course in order to satisfy the many requests we have had. You will also find courses aimed at keeping your body healthy; with Steven Lalevich, Dietician, teaching us about gut bacteria and Dr. Jason Russell DC, CGFI, ACE showing us how to prevent neck and back pain. We are also offering a Student Session that promises to be entertaining as well as useful. After a day of learning, we get to go to Prom! I can't wait to dress up in a prom dress and attend this year's HIPAC dinner and auction as we help raise funds for legislative efforts. If you have never attended, you have been missing a lot of fun! With the continuing education courses, lunch and learn, Member Luncheon and HIPAC event, your IDHA Board of Trustees strives to offer you a healthy balance of education and fun, and we hope you will join us. It is only with your support that IDHA can continue to represent, protect, and support you! President Message 2015 I am excited to welcome everyone to the 69 th IDHA Annual Session! It has been a very busy, productive year since I stepped into this position as IDHA President. At this annual session, I will have completed a 19 month term and I can honestly say it has been a joy! Working with IDHA Officers, Councils, and Committees who have spent a lot of energy providing all hygienists in Indiana with the best representation has been very rewarding! We made big strides in our profession with the passing of HB 1061 and were overjoyed watching Governor Mike Pence sign our bill into law. This legislative session, we introduced HB 1282 that will also enhance our profession. Again, we are watching the legislative process in action and hoping it will make the complete journey into law. It is always so amazing to see hygienists from all over the state take action, exchange ideas, and do all that is possible for our profession. Enjoy this amazing time right now, network with your colleagues, share your ideas, attend a continuing education course, inspire a student, but most of all, and renew your commitment to the profession you love! The 69 th IDHA Annual Session will combine all of these things...join us and be a part of shaping the future of YOUR profession! See you there!!! Melissa J. Spriggs, LDH, BGS, IDHA President

Cracking the Code: Prophy to Perio (4 CEU s) Friday, May 15, :30-11:30am Oftentimes, we find ourselves seeing patients whose periodontal status is in a steady decline. Once we have assessed their periodontal health, it may be essential to perform periodontal therapy to treat active disease. Using proper insurance codes to take patients from prophy to perio is essential as part of successful treatment. The instructor of this section will spend time discussing different options, using CDT codes, to properly utilize patient s dental insurance as part of their treatment. Let s Get to the Point: Efficient and Effective Instrument Sharpening As hygienists, we need to ensure our instruments are always sharp and ready to tackle the most tenacious calculus. This is a hands-on course highlighting techniques for the most efficient and effective methods of instrument sharpening. Bring some dull, sterilized, instruments and your favorite sharpening stone and get ready to Get to the Point!
