Friday, May 25 Final Delegation Reports sent to Programs (Final Divisions, Sports Schedules, Housing Assignment) Friday, May 25 Invoices sent to Programs Friday, June 1 Credentials Mailed to requested Programs ENTRY FEES: $130 per person for Thursday arrivals (3 nights lodging & 8 meals) $110 per person for Friday arrivals (2 nights lodging & 6 meals). $65 per athlete for those housed off-campus (days only, no lodging or meals). The Off Campus housing option, in which athletes participate in the Games but are not housed on campus, is available to all County Programs without restriction. County Programs using this option for all or part of their delegation are responsible for making their own housing and meal arrangements, and following all procedures ensuring the safety of their athletes. 67

2 Summer Games STATE OFFICE CONTACT: Scott Mingle (800) ext. 228 HOUSING: 1. Entries for Summer Games will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for housing on the Indiana State University (ISU) campus until housing capacity is reached. 2. If housing capacity at ISU is reached, Programs may still enter by using the Off Campus entry option and secure their own housing. 3. Delegations may house swimmers and swim coaches at Rose-Hulman (site of the Swimming competition). Discuss this option with Scott Mingle (smingle@soindiana.org). ENTRY INFORMATION (entry forms on Pages ) : 1. County Programs must be registered with the State Office to enter this event. 2. All entry forms must be IN HOUSE by the deadline. They may be ed, mailed or faxed to the State Office. Mailing Address: Special Olympics Indiana, 6200 Technology Center Drive, Suite 105, Indianapolis, IN Fax: (317) entries@soindiana.org. 3. The entry or registration fee will be transferred from the County account to the State account on May 25. Insufficient funds in the County account is cause to reject the entries or registration. The County Program is responsible to notify the Regional Manager before the deadline if special circumstances exist. 4. Once past the entry deadline, no refunds will be given. In the event of cancellation of the entire Games, entry fees wills be refunded. 5. All athletes must have an Application for Participation on file with the State Office. New applications must be received in the State Office by the entry deadline for the athlete/ partner to be eligible for that event. 6. A current and complete Medical Form must be completed for each Special Olympics athlete listed on the roster and on-hand for any Special Olympics-related activity. Medical Forms will be checked at registration. Athletes without Medical Forms will NOT be allowed to participate. 7. All Class A volunteers (coaches, chaperones & Sports partners) entered by a County Program MUST be registered in the Volunteer Management System (VMS) and have completed an application, background screening, Coach/Volunteer Orientation, Protective Behaviors training, and Concussion Awareness training. 8. Athletes are expected to be properly trained for a minimum of eight (8) weeks prior to the event. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 1. An athlete may enter no more than two (2) sports at Summer Games. In all, he or she may be entered in no more than four (4) events or three (3) events in Swimming. An athlete may enter no more than three (3) events in Track & Field, including relays; and no more than two (2) of those events may be field events. An athlete may enter no more than three (3) events in Cycling. 2. The deadline for final entry corrections to be ED to the State Office (entries@soindiana.org) is 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22. Please be specific with the correction, County Program name, County Program contact, and phone number where the correction can be confirmed. Corrections will be made for an incorrect age or sex of an individual, but events will not be changed. Event divisioning will change, if needed. 3. When Special Olympics athletes or Sports partners require the use of wheelchairs or other mobility assistance devices, participation in team sports (basketball, softball, volleyball, and flag football) likely creates undue health and safety risks for that athlete and others in the game. The County Coordinator may apply to the State Office for special consideration for an athletes who require such assistance. These requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Athletes in question should not compete at any level without State Office approval. 68

4 Healthy Athletes Through the Healthy Athletes program, Special Olympics Indiana athletes will receive free screenings during Summer Games in a fun, welcoming environment that removes the anxiety and fear that individuals with intellectual disabilities often experience when faced with a visit to the doctor or dentist. Our mission is to improve each athlete s health and fitness, leading to enhanced sports experience and improved well-being. DISCIPLINES FIT FEET (Podiatry) A free podiatric screening for participating Special Olympics athletes, evaluating ankles, feet, lower extremity biomechanics, and proper shoe and sock gear. Fit Feet also provides referrals for those participating in Special Olympics who may require follow-up services. Estimated time to complete once started: 15 minutes HEALTHY HEARING (Audiology) Designed to ensure proper audiological care for participating Special Olympics athletes. Led by volunteer professionals, Healthy Hearing also provides tests for cerumen (ear wax) and otoacoustic emissions tests. Estimated time to complete once started: 25 minutes SPECIAL SMILES (Dentistry) Helps Special Olympics athletes optimize their oral health by offering dental screenings and instructions on correct brushing and flossing techniques. Also aims to increase access to dental care for athletes and all people with intellectual disabilities. Estimated time to complete once started: 20 minutes OPENING EYES (Vision) Funded by Lions Clubs International, this program aims to improve the quality of life for millions of individuals with intellectual disabilities by optimizing their vision, eye health, and visual skills through quality eye care. Estimated time to complete once started: 25 minutes HEALTH PROMOTION (Better Health & Well-Being) Focused on improving quality of life and life expectancy among Special Olympics Athletes by providing them with knowledge and tools to make better decisions about their health, this discipline encompasses a variety of core health areas including nutrition, hydration, sun safety, physical activity, and more. Estimated time to complete once started: 20 minutes FUN FITNESS (Physical Therapy) Designed to identify needs and to help athletes improve flexibility, strength, balance, and aerobic condition, FUN Fitness also aims to educate athletes, coaches, and their families on the importance of these aspects of overall health. Estimated time to complete once started: 45 minutes SCHEDULE AND LOCATION Healthy Athletes screenings will be offered on Indiana State University Main Campus and in Olympic Town. Thursday, June 7 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm At least 2 disciplines Friday, June 8 10:00 am - 4:00 pm All disciplines, June 9 9:00 am - 4:00 pm All disciplines FREE SHOES FROM FINISH LINE Finish Line will once again be sponsoring our Athlete Fitness tent in Olympic Town, where they will encourage participation in the Healthy Athletes program by providing a new pair of shoes to any athlete that completes at least three screenings. Passport books will be provided and stamped at each station. 70
