1 Wednesday, June 17, :00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Community Service Day Music City Center (Convention Center) Program Description: Beginning at 8:00 a.m., participants will partake in a hands-on, interactive training session to become trained class facilitators in the educational curriculum, Tooth Wisdom: Get Smart About Your Mouth, a new, first-of-its-kind workshop empowering older adults with the skills and tools to take care of their mouths. The curriculum is designed for dental hygienists to lead and engage in a unique way with older adults in the community by empowering them to be more confident in taking charge of their oral health. The training will teach group facilitation skills, cultural competency, how to communicate with older adults, and the health education constructs that underpin the workshop. Participants will then have lunch before departing to one of the community centers to deliver the workshop to an older adult audience. At the sites, participants will be fulfilling one of the following roles: Helping with set-up and welcoming older adults Assisting with pre- and post- tests Presenting
2 Demonstration with mouth models Running focus groups. At the conclusion of the program, participants will be brought back to the Music City Center Convention Center, which will be around 4:00 p.m. Participants will receive a training manual, t-shirt to wear, and a box lunch. Educators Workshop Room: Davidson A The ADHA Strategic Plan outlines the need for transformation in the educational process of the dental hygiene profession. The Council on Education is charged with determining future programming needs for dental hygiene educators. This workshop will focus on the development of leadership skills for educators and will be facilitated by a representative from AAL (TBD). Join us for an interactive workshop on leadership skills for dental hygiene educators.
3 Learning Objectives: Discuss the current vision for the profession. Define what it means to be a leader. Identify leadership characteristics required for educators. Understand how to serve as change champions to drive transformation. 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Judges Calibration Room: 208AB ADHA member hygienists, serving as judges, will evaluate the quality of the student presentations. Judging will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. Please consider volunteering your time as an ADHA Table Clinic/Poster Session Judge. It's a great way to support ADHA and the students who are the future of the dental hygiene profession. All judges are invited to attend the awards breakfast that will be held Thursday, June 18 from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Please note: all applicants need to be registered to attend ADHAs 2015 CLL at the 92nd Annual Session in Nashville. Posters should pertain to ADHA's National Dental Hygiene Research Agenda, evidence-based patient-centered dental hygiene practice, or an area of dental hygiene-related research significant to the participant.
