1 POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION DETAILS: Clinical Dietitian Charge Dietitian Auckland District Health Board Nutrition Manager DATE: June 2013 TITLE: REPORTS TO: LOCATION: AUTHORISED BY: PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide excellent clinical nutrition care for Auckland City Hospital patients. To be accountable for the provision of quality patient care through the application of competent clinical skills in assessment, planning, implementation of treatment and management of nutrition issues facing hospitalised patients. To be flexible in service delivery models to adjust to the needs of inpatients and ambulatory care patients. Provides supervision and coaching to student dietitians and recently graduated dietitians, new to the workforce. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Key Result Area Expected Outcomes/Performance Indicators Clinical Practice Responsible for a clinical caseload providing nutritional care for ACH patients and their families/whanau Demonstrate a patient-centred approach, involving clients and carers in decision making regarding their care Demonstrate clinical reasoning, assessing the patient, planning and implementing appropriate nutritional intervention Maintain clinical and statistical records to organisational standards Participate in discipline related clinics for ambulatory patients as required Attend patient related clinical meetings and discipline meetings to ensure an integrated approach to patient care Ability to supervise University Dietetic Students during their clinical placements Works as an autonomous practitioner, taking responsibility for the management of patient caseloads through assessment of clinical needs and effective prioritisation Produces evidence based resources and Standards of Care Cultural Competence Demonstrate culturally safe practice that encompasses a diverse range of beliefs, values and practices

3 Person Specification Education Qualifications Essential Desired Professional New Zealand Registered Dietitian with Current Practising Certificate, endorsed as a Dietitian Prescriber Experience/Knowledge Competent to prescribe enteral nutrition and oral nutritional support to adult patients Experience in teaching students in practical placements, student lectures Demonstrated experience in delivering quality and performance improvement initiatives in a clinical setting Knowledge of the implications of the Treaty of Waitangi with a commitment to Biculturalism Member of Dietitians New Zealand Previous clinical dietetic experience Experience working in outpatient clinic setting and adult acute inpatient services such as General Medicine, Surgery. Experience in Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes. Demonstrated ability to motivate junior members off staff to develop professional competency Strong understanding of performance improvement culture development Personal Characteristics Strong interpersonal and communication skills Proactive and displays initiative A team player with the ability to motivate and coach people Ability to think through issues and identify solutions Generates trust and able to work in a collaborative and supportive partnership.
