1 POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION DETAILS: TITLE: SENIOR RADIATION THERAPIST PROFESSION: RADIATION THERAPY REPORTS TO - OPERATIONALLY: Clinical Team Leaders Treatment/Pre-Treatment PROFESSIONALLY: Professional Leader, Radiation Therapy LOCATION: Auckland City Hospital, Auckland District Health Board AUTHORISED BY: Allied Health Director, Cancer and Blood Directorate DATE: August 2016 PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Senior Radiation Therapist is an Allied Health professional responsible for co-ordinating workflow and staffing needs within the areas of Treatment or Pre-Treatment within the relevant clinical team to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. In order to achieve the key accountabilities of the role, the Senior Radiation Therapist will be expected to work in conjunction with Radiation Therapy Clinical Team Leaders, Radiation Therapy Staff and members of the multidisciplinary team whilst demonstrating and modelling a high level of clinical expertise and professionalism. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: CLINICAL AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE Maintain clinical workload as dictated by rostered work area Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team Comply with, apply and adhere to all legal requirements according to the Medical Radiation Technologists Board, Code of Ethics and the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (2003) Adhere to ADHB, Directorate and Service clinical policies and procedures LEADERSHIP Provide leadership for their designated rostered work area by co-ordinating staff and creating partnerships to achieve clinical and service goals Ensure the performance of their rostered work area is in line with the unit s operational business plan and ensure that any resource implications are highlighted to the appropriate Team Leader Responsible for leading staff in their specific clinical area in a manner consistent with ADHB s values Assist in the workload distribution applicable to work area Communicate any operational performance requirements that fall within area of responsibility to

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Education & Qualifications Essential Desired Professional Recognised tertiary qualification in Radiation Therapy MRTB Registration and Annual Practising Certificate in the scope of Radiation Therapy No conditions on scope of practice Specific Clinical Competencies Knowledge and understanding of the Radiation Therapy environment and the interrelated fields of Planning, Simulation and Treatment Knowledge of contemporary issues in Radiation Therapy Work Experience Minimum 4 years experience in relevant clinical environment Proven success in coordination, clinical oversight and management of clinical processes Ability to use appropriate software and technological applications Professional Development Member of MRTB approved CPD programme Relevant clinical post graduate Master s degree or equivalent Member of NZIMRT or equivalent professional body Ability to participate in focus groups, staff training and education Proven ability to manage operational performance within a multidisciplinary environment
