To provide support and training for mental health nursing preceptors and supervisors. To provide liaison and coordination with the tertiary education provider.
2 Key Tasks To Provide Clinical Leadership for New graduate Nurses, Preceptors and Clinical Nursing Staff. University liaison and Supervision Responsibilities Reporting Responsibilities To be actively involved in Quality Improvement and Service Development Personal and professional development Performance Indicators Provide learning support to programme participants in the clinical area by maintaining a quality preceptor system. Liaise with managers and senior nursing staff to ensure that programme participants clinical learning requirements are met. Co-ordinate the programme participant s performance review/clinical assessments to ensure quality feedback. Participate in the development of an integrated clinical nurse education framework for WDHB. Collaboratively develop a consumer focus to care delivery Engage in professional and community activities, which forward the discipline of Mental Health Nursing. Demonstrate contemporary practice, an evidence-based philosophy and critical reflection in the clinical and academic components of the programme Liaise with the University to ensure all programme participants are enrolled and have access to appropriate University facilities such as the student learning centre. Arrange the selection and support of experienced mental health nurses to provide supervision for the NESP cohort Participate in University curriculum planning and review. Provide reports as required to WDHB, the University of Auckland, the Nursing Council of New Zealand and Te Pou. Promotes quality improvement and innovation across the service Participates in quality improvement groups Undertakes nursing audit aligned with nursing standards and practice which will inform programme development. Maintains own professional practice portfolio Identifies own learning needs and negotiates appropriate resources to meet these Regularly meets with the Nursing Head of Division and other MH Nurse Advisors Uses national and international networks to inform practice Achieves identified personal development goals Engages in regular professional supervision Actively participates in performance review and PDRP process Pursues professional development by active participation in appropriate in-service or outsourced education, reading relevant literature or seeking other resources Culturally practice sensitive Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Demonstrates an understanding of the cultural and social differences of all groups Supports initiatives and projects which improve access and health gain for Maori, Pacific and Asian peoples Facilitates accessing appropriate cultural advice and support and the provision of Bicultural supervision for the NESP participants

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualification Registered Nurse able to practice in mental health settings Current Annual Practising Certificate Level 4 on a professional development and recognition programme Post graduate qualification in mental health nursing Membership of a professional Nursing organisation Experience Five years nursing experience in the mental health and addictions sector Demonstrated leadership skill Demonstrated education/teaching skill Knowledge Understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and bi-cultural issues in health service delivery Understanding of informed consent issues, trauma informed care and consumer rights Knowledge of Health Practitioners Competency Act 2003 and the Nursing Council of New Zealand and codes and standards Understanding of legislation pertaining to mental health Knowledge of Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug Services.
