2 JOB DESCRIPTION The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Job Title Resident Boarding Assistant - Stamp Main Purpose of the job To be part of the House Team playing a key role in the pastoral care of the girls. To assist with the well being and supervision of the girls in the House and at times taking sole charge. Reporting to Housemistress Reporting to the job holder N/A Main responsibilities and duties Working as part of the pastoral team, Boarding Assistants are expected to: Be a listening ear for the girls and to share concerns appropriately. Work in communication with the Housemistress on pastoral issues. Oversee the smooth day to day running of the House. Supervise girls in their daily routines in the house and school. This will include: waking girls up, cleaning of rooms, taking House meetings and putting girls to bed. Support the Housemistress/Houseparent to ensure that the girls attend meals and are punctual for school events. Administer basic medication (appropriate induction and support will be given) and ensure medical records are up to date. Carry out and record registrations, following up and reporting absence as required. Be responsible for the cleanliness, tidiness and good order of the House throughout the term, drawing up cleaning rota for girls and ensuring that duties are carried out regularly, liaising with Maintenance over necessary repairs. Taking responsibility for the aesthetics of the House is a key part of the job. Check girls general appearance and clothing in conjunction with the School s Uniform Policy and being prepared to ensure girls leave the House for the school day in full uniform, in accordance with the policy. Assist with the preparation of the School for holiday activities and lettings at the end of terms. Help prepare the house so that it is ready for the beginning of term. This involves returning to school at least one day before the start of term and staying for a day at the end of term. Carry out administrative and other tasks as allocated by the Housemistress/Houseparent with the 2

3 agreement of the Deputy Head Pastoral. These tasks are required at different times and will be allocated according to the hours the job holder is working. To carry out meal duties as required by the Boarding Assistants and weekend rota. To attend weekly Boarding Assistant meetings and other pastoral meetings as necessary. To assist with escorting girls (Dental/Medical appointments) as required. To support the weekend programme by running activities and supervising on trips. To be responsible for the House when the Housemistress/Houseparent is off duty. To be involved in school wide duties and administrative tasks that may include: Reception, Resources, the Examinations Office, Registration support, School tours and other areas of the school. To be on duty approximately every other/two in three weekend as required by the duty rota (time off in the week is given every week). To support the House team in ensuring girls behave appropriately. To attend House and school events when possible. To assist the Housemistress weekly with collating the girls weekend arrangements. To ensure House notice boards are kept up to date and presentable. To liaise with parents/guardians as necessary. To assist with putting together a termly House newsletter with assistance from the girls. To support the weekly and weekend treat night programme. Other duties may be deemed appropriate to the role by the Principal. Skills, Knowledge and Experience An understanding of the role from the information provided Educated to A-Level or GNVQ A keen interest in pastoral care, teaching or education Good communication skills Good team worker Stamina, good sense of humour, resilient and a sense of loyalty to the school An awareness of Health and Safety Flexible and responsible approach to work as this role demands IT skills Experience in the care of children or young people. Sensitivity to and interest in adolescent girl welfare Willingness to undertake post related training Experience of working in a Boarding Environment or other residential care would be an advantage. Further academic or teaching qualifications Data H & S Certificate Experience The categories of work or organisations, types of achievements and activities that would be likely to predict success in the role. The post is suitable for someone with some experience of teaching, or for a newly qualified entrant to the profession. Two or more years experience of teaching at Key Stages 3 and 4 Experience of teaching across the full ability range Skills The skills required by the Applicant to perform effectively in the role.
