2 Job Title: Safeguarding Lead Reports to: Medical Director Location: Key Working Relationships: The post holder will work across Greenbrook sites, their main admin base will be The Meadows Centre for Health, Hounslow. Deputy Medical Director Director of Nursing Clinical leads Job Summary: As the organisation s safeguarding lead the post holder will be responsible for maintaining services in which all staff understand the needs of vulnerable adults and children at risk; that they can identify those at risk, refer appropriately to the relevant agencies, provide reports for partner agencies and develop a culture in which the safeguarding needs of children and adults are recognised and appropriately managed. Key Responsibilities: To ensure robust safeguarding systems, policies, procedures, training and professional guidance are in place across Greenbrook services. Systems should ensure that children and adults at risk are identified, referred and appropriately protected from harm. To ensure that the perspective of children, vulnerable adults and carers are incorporated in the development of Greenbrook services. To maintain and regularly review all Greenbrook safeguarding policies. To maintain and develop effective safeguarding training across the Greenbrook services To provide senior knowledge, advice and support to clinicians in relation to safeguarding adults and children To respond to new national requirements and implement effective policies and pathways to accommodate these new requirements. To work closely with allied agencies including social services, acute trust safeguarding leads, CCG safeguarding leads to develop a multidisciplinary team based approach in the management of safeguarding. Main Duties: To develop and deliver a strategy, annual plans and objectives and an Annual Report for adult and children s safeguarding across Greenbrook Healthcare Be responsible for providing leadership, expert advice and guidance on safeguarding to staff across Greenbrook Lead on the annual Section 11 audit and other audit requirements from the CCG and NHSE To ensure all relevant national and reginal safeguarding guidance and best practice is implemented across Greenbrook services. To provide expert advice to employees and service users around domestic violence, FGM, Child sexual exploitation, PREVENT and human trafficking. To liaise with and report to the Executive Safeguarding Lead any issues of concern that indicates significant deficit in Safeguarding Children or Adults practice. To coordinate, present and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) that impact on adult and children s safeguarding across Greenbrook. To ensure Safeguarding training, audit and policy remains high profile in the organisation. To maintain good liaison with other agencies, both statutory and non-statutory, involved in providing services for child and vulnerable adult protection. 3

4 Ensure appropriate procedures are in place to deliver appropriate governance structures for safeguarding. Ensure appropriate procedures are in place to deliver effective performance arrangements for safeguarding audit and education. Ensure effective safeguarding supervision arrangements are in place across the services Provide robust safeguarding supervision for site safeguarding leads Promote good interagency working and oversee interagency function Ensure Greenbrook is compliant with legislation and national guidance relating to safeguarding adults and children. Provide, to staff and the Board, regular reports and updates on lessons learned from local and national reviews Education Training and Development: Engage in appropriate professional development activities in order to maintain competence and performance. Contribute to the facilitation of a suitable educational environment in which to support the development and learning of staff. Undertake teaching sessions as required to staff. To demonstrate skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work To participate in an annual performance review process, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development Undertake mandatory and statutory training. Communication To demonstrate politeness, courtesy, respect and sensitivity in dealing with patients/ clients, visitors/relatives and colleagues, maintaining good customer relations. To adapt communication skills to meet the needs of patients who may have barriers to understanding e.g. language To work cohesively with all members of the team in ensuring that the very best services to patients are provided at all times. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION Health Clearance Health clearance is required for this appointment. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check A DBS check (previously Criminal Records Bureau check) will be required before appointment for all posts with access to children or vulnerable adults. Confidentiality Patients have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately. In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to 5

6 information relating to the company as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential. Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the service may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Data Protection Act, and policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data. The post holder must always keep all patient-related information confidential; this includes if the patient is deceased and if the post-holder is no longer employed by Greenbrook Healthcare. Data Quality/Security The post holder is responsible for ensuring that he/she maintains the integrity and quality of both computerised and manual data. Safeguarding Greenbrook Healthcare is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff to undertake this commitment. Clinical Governance / Raising Concerns Greenbrook Healthcare aims to provide the highest standards of care. To further this aim the post holder is expected to adhere to acceptable working practices as defined in policies and guidelines. The post holder has a personal responsibility to keep up to date and, if s/he encounters unacceptable practice, to raise this in a responsible and appropriate manner, if necessary through the whistleblowing procedure. Codes of conduct and professional standards All staff should adhere to any codes of conduct or professional standards set by the regulatory bodies with whom they are registered or by professional bodies of which they are a member. Uniform and Dress Code All nursing and Emergency Care Practitioners should adhere to infection control principles and must wear a uniform when on duty. Smoking Smoking is not allowed on any part of Greenbrook Healthcare premises. Policies & Procedures 6

Personal Property Greenbrook Healthcare is unable to accept responsibility for articles of personal property lost or damaged on its premises whether by burglary, fire, theft or otherwise and staff are advised to insure against all risks. 7

Experience of developing safeguarding strategy in a public sector environment Experience of teaching / supervision Experience of delivering safeguarding audits. Experience of investigating, and developing action plans from, safeguarding incidents Experience working in an NHS acute sector environment e.g. primary or emergency care. Experience of developing Board level safeguarding reports Skills and Abilities Excellent communication skills Team player Adaptable /Flexible / energetic and enthusiastic Ability to drive change and operationalize strategic intentions Other Driver with a full clean license 8
