1 Driver/Handy Person Job Description and Person Specification JOB TITLE RESPONSIBLE TO SALARY BAND LOCATION Driver/Handy Person Team Leader 6.85 per hour Thorne, Doncaster s to HR s Activities Learner Support 1) appointed to new post by/start date Mission To provide innovative and Person Centred solutions for people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities irrespective of where and how they live, to improve their quality of life and to etend and eercise their rights to access more control over their lives. Organisation Autism Plus is a charity committed to improving the life of people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities. The charity was formed in 1986 by a group of parents of autistic children. Autism Plus offers a range of services, including Residential, Supporting Living, Respite, Activities Choices, Community Support and Domiciliary Care. Autism Plus is a member of The Adsetts Partnership (TAP), which offers collaboration opportunities with like-minded voluntary sector agencies on a wide range of initiatives, from major government contracts through to local projects which will provide a one-stop-shop range of services.

2 Key Purpose of the Job Role Driver To drive clients in a safe manner from their home to their destination, to offsite activities/outings and their homeward journey. To ensure basic vehicle maintenance is carried out in accordance with the policies and procedures of Autism Plus. Handy Person To carry out, co-ordinate and monitor all buildings, equipment and facility maintenance within Autism Plus and satellite properties. Key responsibilities The Driver/Handy Person is responsible for carrying out the following duties effectively and efficiently: Driver 1. To be responsible for client's safety whilst travelling in vehicle. 2. To liaise with Escort/keyworkers re: any problems/health matters that you need to be aware of prior to every journey. 3. To report any problems with vehicles that requires attention to the Unit Manager. 4. To check First Aid boes and replace any relinquished items. 5. To report all accidents to the necessary authorities ie. police, other emergency services (where applicable). Report immediately or as soon as possible all accidents to the Unit Manager or Reception Office for action. 6. To carry out regular checks e.g. oil, water, tyre pressure and lights. To replenish or repair if required. 7. To ensure the internal cleanliness of vehicle at the completion of shift. 8. To document all incidents that occur whilst driving. 9. To maintain the welfare and safety of clients and staff with due regard to accident reporting, risk assessment and the Health and Safety at Work Act (and other relevant legislation). 10. To assist and participate in fostering good relationships with client's relatives, friends, the local community, other agencies and visitors. 11. To communicate with clients in a manner which is appropriate to their needs and level of understanding, 12. To assist in safeguarding the personal property and security of clients. 2 of 5

3 Handy Person 1. To assist in the inspection and monitoring of all buildings, equipment and facilities in order to identify repair needs. 2. To carry out minor repairs as requested and identified. 3. To assist in identifying any risks to health and safety and rectify and /or report such to the Unit Manager. 4. To store all tools and equipment safely and securely, and maintain work area in a safe and hazard free manner. 5. To assist in other general maintenance duties, such as cleaning, moving and delivering items, checking and purchasing supplies, decorating, and other similar duties that may arise from time to time. 6. To approach and communicate with clients as per Autism Plus policies and procedures and in accordance with the individual client s programmes. 7. To always demonstrate due respect, and maintain dignity, in accordance with the clients adult status and with due regard to their rights to privacy, choice, fulfilment and independence. 8. To always promote a positive image of our client group, without detracting from the problems and difficulties they eperience. This is an outline of the post-holder s duties and responsibilities but it is not an ehaustive list and may change from time to time to meet the changing needs of the Charity. 3 of 5
