1 A learning & caring community where individuals are valued Job Description 1. Job Title: Support Worker 2. Responsible to: House Coordinator/ Registered Manager (*) 3. Responsible for: N/A 4. Hours per week: 40 hours per week within a shift system 5. Weeks per year: 52 weeks per year (or part year/term time by agreement) This posts constitute regulated activity as set out in Schedule 4 of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 as a consequence an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate and Children and Adults Workforce Barred check will be required. 6. Role Summary: Providing 1-1 support in the care of young people with special needs within a house community and school or college programme or Supported Living environment. This role will help to implement young people Individual Placement Plans by encouraging and supporting their development of social, educational and emotional abilities The Support Worker will be expected to work effectively within a team and support the House Coordinator/Shift leader (or equivalent) with the day-to-day running of the house. The role and duties are carried out in accordance with both regulatory requirements and the Steiner/Anthroposophical principles and values which underpin the work of The Sheiling Ringwood. 7. Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The post-holder will be responsible for the following range of duties with those marked (*) being particularly relevant in roles within the support living part of The Sheiling: Page 1 of 5

2 supporting and encouraging young people to develop and maintain social relationships within the house and local (*)community supporting young people in developing independence e.g. in self-help and general life- skills, personal hygiene, household tasks, meal preparation and finance management (*) supporting and encouraging young people to participate in education or supported employment (*), recreational and leisure activities contributing to young peoples general well-being, health, safety and security assist young people with the provision of personal care ensuring that the dignity of each student is respected and upheld at all times maintain and update paper-based and electronic information systems, as directed to ensure that concise, comprehensive and timely records are maintained Ensure that incident, accident forms and similar are completed and submitted without delay, and in accordance with specified policies, procedures and time scales Assist with the production of student assessments and reports for use by SSET or external partner agencies Ensure that any matters of concern or possible concern relating to the care, well-being and safety of children, colleagues or visitors are recorded and reported, and in accordance with specified procedures and time scales 8. Additional duties and responsibilities: assist the House Co-ordinator/independent young person(*) in general household duties,. participate in planning and review processes; attending staff meetings and briefings where requested; attend relevant internal and external reviews if requested you may be required to participate in a 5 day residential trip (maximum 5 days) which will include working beyond your normal working hours during this week. Performing with appropriate professional care any other tasks, duties and responsibilities within reason that further the aims and objectives of the Sheiling Special Education Trust. 3 Person Specification - Support Worker (*) = essential criteria for staff working in the supported living (Sheiling Living) part of the organisation Criteria Essential Desirable Assessment method(*) Qualification, Education and training GCSE/Fundamental Skills ( or equivalent) in English, Maths and ICT NVQ/QCF L3 in Health & Social Care or Children and Young People s Workforce/Health and Social Care (Learning disabilities pathway) (or equivalent qualification) OR commitment to work towards this accreditation Current First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at work certificate Food Hygiene (level 2 or Equivalent) Infection Control and Prevention (*) Physical intervention techniques (e.g. PROACT SCIP) (*) Training Medicines management, Epilepsy and/or Diabetes Awareness AF/I Knowledge Principles of Safeguarding incl. Child Protection and Adults at risk Positive Behaviour Management techniques I Understands principles and purpose of professional boundaries Basic Principles of Health and Safety Use of physical intervention as last resort technique Principles of risk assessment.
