3 Educational Objectives By the completion of the course, the participant should be able to: State 2 recent advances in knee replacement surgery. Improve understanding of the relationship of anatomy of the knee replacement surgery and patients functional implications. State 3 risk factors orthopedic patient may have for developing venous thromboembolism (VTE). Verbalize measures to implement to prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE) after undergoing orthopedic surgery. Discuss assessment skills utilized by the Post Anesthesia Care Unit RN to manage postoperative orthopedic patients. Recognize the effects of regional anesthesia on postoperative pain for orthopedic surgical patients. Describe mindfulness and how to incorporate it into practice for stress reduction for the orthopedic patient and their care providers. Explain the symptoms and structural pathology of spinal abnormalities and how they are surgically repaired. Identify the cardiovascular risk factors for complications of orthopedic surgery. Discuss the preoperative management of cardiovascular conditions. Define the factors involved with the Enhanced Recovery Program for a patient undergoing a total joint replacement.
