Smith Orange Park, FL Session Abstract: Much of the case manager s work is inherently tied to effective communication with physicians, which can be a struggle even for experienced clinicians. This session will explore elements of communication that are requisite for interaction with physicians, focusing on how and why some forms of communication may be different when dealing with doctors. A better understanding of how physicians are trained and socialized will enhance the case manager s awareness of the physician s perspective and thus increase the likelihood of achieving what is needed for patient safety and better outcomes. 1. Identify elements of the case manager s work that rely on effective communication with physicians 2. Describe how physicians are trained and socialized 3. The speaker will share her experience in implementing the program by using step-by-step tools. This system will allow attendees to get things done with less effort and stress, while managing the daily fire-fighting demands of case management. Attendees will leave with enhanced knowledge about appropriate internal audit preparation and how to effectively work with auditors to achieve successful outcomes. 1.
