4 Introduction Hefei University of Technology Student Chapter SEG/HFUT was approved and formalized in September The purpose of SEG-HFUT is to promote economic geology development in Hefei University of Technology and enhance the communication between students here with other students of different student chapter from all over the world. The main aim is to transfer the knowledge and experience from professors and other researchers to the students to enhance their knowledge in different fields of geology. This annual report details the activities of the HEUT student chapter over the past academic year ( ) and briefly outlines our plan for next year in Summarized Annual Activities 1. Monthly Meetings The Hefei University of Technology Student Chapter held Meetings monthly at the first Monday night of every month. The first meeting was held at September 5 th 2016 which is purposed to introduce the SEG student chapter and its constitute and goals to all the students. The meetings were predominantly used to discuss chapter activities, trips, fund-raising ideas and to assign specific tasks to the officers. The last meeting was held at September 4 th We elected new Student Chapter Executive Committee for and summarized the activities in last academic 3 / 14

5 year. 2. SEG Lectures We have made lectures by renowned professionals in economic geology. Titles and time are as following. Note that all the lectures attended by all the members of our chapter and other students and teachers. 1 July 4, Titled Tectonomagmatic controls on arc metallogeny, Porphyry and epithermal ore formation in post-subduction tectonic settings, and Links between porphyry and IOCG deposits by Dr. Jeremy Richards. 12 3. Field Trips The Hefei University of Technology Student Chapter led a variety of local field trips during the academic year. On September 13th 2016, we went to the Shaxi porphyry Cu deposit to learn porphyry mapping and logging using Anaconda methods with the help of David Cooke and Dr. Lejun Zhang. All the costs of the field trip is supported by the teachers project. Figure 10. Participation in conferences and workshops HFUT SEG student members attended two main conferences during the academic year. Students gained valuable experience and ideas through presentations delivered by others. The 13 th national ore deposit conference of China was held on November 18-21, 2016 at Hefei. The theme of the conference is that technological innovation leads to breakthroughs in prospecting, and green mines share economic development. All of the HFUT student chapter members attended the conference. The 2017 SEG conference Ore Deposits of Asia: China and Beyond was 12 / 14

14 held on September in Beijing. This is the first time the SEG conference held in China. It is thought as a big opportunity for us to communicate with the foreign geologists. All the members here attended the conference. Eight of us made posters to show our work. And six of us get the SEG fund to pay for the traffic and accommodation fees. Figure 12. Wallace Fund at October We aimed to go to visit Lushan geologic park which has lots of interesting geological phenomenon. But finally we failed. Because there some aspects we hadn t considered enough before. Although we failed, we learned a lot form that. We hope we can be more experienced to apply the fund next time. 6. Future plans The new committee intends on encouraging undergraduate and other 13 / 14

15 graduate students in Hefei University of Technology to join our student chapter. We are going to arrange more special lectures and short courses for the students here to get access to the newest or the typical work what other geologists has done, and hold some joint activities with other student chapters in China. We will keep trying to apply for the SEG Stewart R. Wallace Fund next year and apply for the SEG fund for the trip of next SEG conference that will be held in Colorado. 14 / 14
