1 Chinese Hypertension League called to celebrate WHD2016 May 17 th 2016 was World Hypertension Day (WHD2016). The theme of WHD2016 is know your blood pressure with the goal of increasing high blood pressure awareness in all populations around the world. The Chinese Hypertension League celebrated WHD2016 during the week of May Compared with results in 2002, the Three Rates (rates of awareness, treatment and control) of hypertension in China were greatly improved in 2012 at 46%, 41% and 14% respectively, suggesting that the task of hypertension prevention and control has made some achievements. However, with the speedy increase of the aged population, the situation of hypertension prevention and control in China is still a challenge. In support of WHD2016 and the Global Blood Pressure Screening Program, the Chinese Hypertension League (CHL) and World Hypertension League (WHL) Beijing Office jointly decided to call on academic organizations, units, companies, CHL Council members and related personnel to respond actively to the proposal of WHL, including organizing activities surrounding blood pressure screening and prevention of chronic diseases between April and May. In order to facilitate the development of these activities we prepared a lot of poster presentations and related materials for patients. During WHD2016 the CHL Council members and related cardiologists carried out more than 30 WHD activities, including blood pressure measuring and screening, free clinical consulting, giving out posters and leaflets and organizing patient education classes. Some of the activities were organized by the following: Beijing Hypertension Association, Fuwai Hospital, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Shanghai Hypertension Institute, General Hospital, the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College, Jilin Central Hospital, Shanxi Medical Doctor Association, Shanxi Dayi Hospital, Shaanxi Provincial People s Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xian Jiaotong University, the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University, the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University, Xinjiang Uiger Municipal People s Hospital, Chongqing Daping Hospital, Shandong Qianfoshan Hospital, Fujian Provincial Hospital, Hainan General Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Zhejiang Hospital, Guangdong General Hospital, Henan Provincial People s Hospital, Peking University People s Hospital, Zhoukou Shi Central Hospital, Sichuan Medical Doctor Association, Lanzhou University Second Hospital, Jiangsu Provincial Authorities Hospital, Ningxia People s Hospital. All the activities held on WHD were highly appreciated by the majority of hypertension patients.
