Kia ora koutou e ngā kura o Waitaha Aoraki, huri atu ki Te Tai Poutini Re: NGĀ MANU KŌRERO - PĀNUI 1 Welcome to our first pānui for the Regional Ngā Manu Kōrero Speech Contest This year Te Kura Tuarua o Pūtaringamotu is honoured to host the Regional Ngā Manu Kōrero Speech Contest 2018 which will be held on Friday 22 June 2018 at Riccarton High School, Christchurch. All communication and correspondence on this event should be sent to Te Kura Tuarua o Pūtaringamotu. Please send Manu Kōrero entries and queries via to: manukorero@riccarton.school.nz. Our mail address is 31 Vicki St, Sockburn, Christchurch Please note that registrations, along with completed Code of Conduct forms and payment must be received no later than Friday 1 June The draw for the order of speakers will be completed by Friday 8 June You will be ed the order once it is available. To ensure you are eligible for the contest you must have registered and completed payment for your speakers and supporters by the closing date for entries. You must have also completed and returned the enclosed Code of Conduct. Registration: Please complete one registration form for each speaker. If you wish to receive confirmation that your entry has been received, please include an address so we can reply with the number of speakers' registered from your kura. Please also include in your registration the number of supporters from your kura. This will ensure your registration pack is accurate. To enter your school for Manu Kōrero you must have a speaker in a Maori section: Rawhiti Ihaka and/or Pei Te Hurinui Jones. Please note: The impromptu speeches for the senior sections, Korimako and Pei Te Hurinui Jones will be held before the prepared speeches. Please make sure your speakers are aware of this. If your kura is attending the powhiri, please be aware that the hall has limited seating approximately 400 can be seated.

6 Code of Conduct The Secondary School Regional Manu Kōrero Competition is brought to you by Te Kura Tuarua o Pūtaringmotu. This document is to ensure the safety of all those involved. General school rules will apply and students must remember they are representatives of their families, their school and the wider Maori community. This Code of Conduct applies for the duration of the whole event. Post event, students will be expected to leave the facilities within a reasonable timeframe at the completion of the event as arranged by their family and school. If any students remain within the complex the teacher in charge will be contacted. Any costs incurred will be the responsibility of the attending school. 1. Smoking, alcohol & drug free event 1.1. If at any time during the event an individual student or school group conduct inappropriate acts relating to smoking, alcohol or drugs this may result in a random check and appropriate authorities will be contacted. 2. Appropriate behaviour (student & school helpers) 2.1. Students are to RESPECT and SHOW COURTESY for others throughout the day and to be mindful of other kaikōrero and public viewers Inappropriate and abusive language will not be tolerated (English or any other language) 2.3. No loitering Where individuals or groups are found to be loitering they will be given a warning by a member of the organising committee. Failure to adhere to the warning may result in actions as outlined in the consequences 4.2 of this document. 3. Facilities and personal belongings 3.1. Please be aware of the limited spaces available, keeping corridors and walk ways free at all times Doors will be open only during transition of schools (in between speakers) Please respect property of others. Any lost property is to be handed into a member of Te Kura Tuarua o Pūtaringmotu Lost property Schools are to contact Te Kura Tuarua o Pūtaringmotu within seven days of the event being held Any property left in the possession of Te Kura Tuarua o Pūtaringmotu at the end of the 7 days will be disposed of.

7 4. Consequences 4.1. Any individual deemed as displaying outrageous or indecent behaviour will be requested to leave the premises. Failure to leave will result in the student being escorted off-site and their school will be informed Should a student fail to comply, the school teacher in charge will be advised and the student will be withdrawn from the programme Where inappropriate behaviour has taken place by a student, the school management will be contacted as soon as practicable. A restorative justice process will be undertaken with the student, family and school In all situations the event coordinator and security lead will discuss the situation and their decision will be final.
