1 Velocity: Reporting to: Conditions: East End Artist / Partnership Residency supported by Festival 2018 Festival 2018 Cultural Engagement Programme Manager and Glasgow Life Area Arts Producer The period of the contract is equivalent to 10 months full-time with up to an additional flexible 60 days divided between pre and post residency. Full time hours based on 35 hours per week. Due to the nature of the post we anticipate that this will involve evening and weekend work and time can be worked flexibly to suit these demands Location: Fee: Based in the East End of the city, including Clyde Gateway areas of Parkhead, Dalmarnock and Camlachie and communities within Rutherglen. Regular meetings with Festival 2018 in the city centre will also occur. 34, p.a. pro rata This will be a freelance position. The artist / partners will take full responsibility for any tax and National Insurance payments that may occur. Additional: We welcome applications from individual artists or partnerships on a job share basis. The Opportunity In 2018, Glasgow and Berlin will host the inaugural European Championships, an exciting new multi-sport event bringing together some of the continent s leading sports. Following on from the success of the Velocity project that ran as part of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, there is an opportunity to build on the connections and partnerships developed to date. In the context of 2018 having been designated as Year of Young People by the Scottish Government and the disparity regarding young people s mortality in the East End of the city, a time limited project focussing on a grass roots, locally connected programme of creative activity for young people has been developed. The Velocity East End Artists Residency Project (VEEARP) will be a time limited project that will involve a programme of creative activity across the East End of the city; including Clyde Gateway areas Parkhead, Dalmarnock and Camlachie and communities within Rutherglen.

2 The project will be facilitated and delivered by an appointed artist / partnership in residence for the area. This artist / partnership will work in collaboration with key local partners, representatives and young people to design, develop, deliver and commission a programme of creative activity that will support the personal development, skills training and mentoring of young people in the East End of Glasgow and Rutherglen. The artist / partnership will be supported by a Project Reference Group. The Artist / Partnership Residency programme will create a high quality performance for both a local and a city centre site during 2 to 12 August This will be supported by part-time artist roles, young mentees and a production budget. Further opportunities for presenting creative outcomes beyond 2 to 12 August 2018 can be explored by the appointed Artist and creative team. Role Description The nature of the residency is full-time over 10 months with additional flexible working days included, totalling as a 12 month timeframe. The flexibility of delivery will be determined by the interests and expertise of the artist or artists involved. We anticipate that the residency will give the artist an opportunity to develop performance-led work for outdoor performances while fully embedding themselves within the cultural life of the East End of the city. The residency will have the following outcomes: Create and deliver a programme of creative activities in a variety of settings within the East End of the city and Rutherglen Plan and deliver a programme of creative work with part-time artists and trainees whilst keeping within the fixed production budget Creation of a programme of work that will be performed as part of Festival 2018 cultural engagement activity both locally and at a city centre site Deliver a minimum of 8 workshops / master classes with local arts organisations/schools/colleges Participate in professional development opportunities locally Help create pathways for young trainees and participants with an interest in the arts Contribute to evaluation of the long term legacy of the residency

3 The Artist / Partnership Residency may also be asked to: Represent funders or partners at events and /or give talks about the project In partnership with Glasgow Life staff, participate in evaluation and documentation of the project, providing information for reporting and development purposes Liaise with Glasgow 2018 Marketing and PR Team around marketing and social media for all activity Any other duties appropriate to the post Person Specification Essential A creative background which includes, but is not limited to; Established performance led projects with a minimum 5+ years experience and track record of creating and producing performance work Experience of creating performance work within a community setting and engaging the community with your practise Experience of creating performance work with and for families and young people Track record of and ability to build and develop relationships with partner organisations Production Management / Producer skills which include, but are not limited to; Strong organisational, planning and administrative skills Track record of maintaining and completing project budgets Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work on own initiative and develop own schedule of work Additional; Wiling to travel across Glasgow and South Lanarkshire (Rutherglen) Hold a current PVG or undergo a PVG Scheme Update Hold own public liability insurance of a minimum of 5m in advance of contract start date and for duration of contract (or be willing to obtain it for this project) Commitment to and understanding of equal opportunities
